Since the Ukraine invasion, China has been caught in a tricky diplomatic situation, balancing its ties with Russia and the West. As pressure mounts from both sides, why is China trying to remain neutral in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and could Beijing play a hand in ending the war? Director of the China programme at the Stimson Centre, Yun Sun, examines Beijing’s position with the Post’s Alkira Reinfrank.

@David It's a sign of weak debating skills when you have to change the argument. Here in Great Britain we call it 'The straw man', the conversation was about Russia V Ukraine. Please don't mention USA/Iraq again as it's not relevant.

It's really very simple. Russia is behaving like a 20th century dictator, they are acting against all international law, bombing civilians, killing women and children. If China supports this then China will also be guilty and all civilised countries of the world will turn against China like they did Russia.

@David "Please inform yourself better" Please don't take this as a personal insult to you, but I am not the one living in an authoritarian country with state controlled censorship of the media. Remember that I get all of the same news that you get, but I also get the news that your government blocks from you. So you see I am logically better informed than you because I have access to *all* the news. I wish that you also could live in a free country and get the real news without all the propaganda, it would open your eyes. Let me also say this, there is a reason that so many of my friends moved here temporarily from China, but decided to stay here... Please think about that.

@@bigfig5219 it’s called reading the situation , if China where to blindly help Russia how could it help Russia economically after the fighting is done? @@joshuabonilla3491 Yes, but I am talking about their words. Truthfully I don't think China or Russia consider each other friends. China and Russia are just going to continue triangulating each other -- not create a true bond. What Kyodo said.

@@bigfig5219 I would have to disagree , China and Russia have been allies because of the western push into the region. They aren’t blood kin like say Scotland is to England but they view each other way more favorably then anyone else. The people also like each other a lot as well which is a plus. China just doesn’t want to knee cap itself blinding rushing in to help Russia. It knows it is better off helping passively.

The lady in the interview is quite right. China has to learn from from this unnecessary war. Mass media and local resistance play an important role. In terms of military power, China definitely capable to take back Taiwan but using force will bring the whole world into chaotic, economic tumble.
