Hi, I'm aware you and Wiley often declare your not mechanics, but the time and patience you are showing the girls in repairing the truck is an education in how to be a grandfather.

I think you are giving the girls some of the best education they Will ever get, great job Hank, and the girls are beautiful.

I think what you are doing,helping those two girls learn as they work on their own project, is imprinting memories that will last a lifetime, and strengthening the bond between all of you! Kudos,Dad! Wish there were more parents like you!

Well I gotta say if there was video footage of my dad and grandad teaching me all the things I learned I would watch it a million times. They are blessed to have this opportunity when they may not understand it right now, one day they will. Well done sir! God Bless you and your Family!

Hank sent you some pics to your brandmanager email address of my 1973 Chey 4x4 truck. I painted it a GM color called Marina Blue F/3860; mine is done in a PPG base coat clear is with PPG Urethane clear coat. This is a great color as it has staying power in the sunlight and remains very stable over time. It is good to see you getting the twins involved. My dash instrument panel is from the 73 and I installed a nice steering wheel from a 76 Camaro. These are much safer in accidents and prevent serious head injuries. The stock steering wheel is a killer they are very hard and unforgiving. The local salvage yard did not have any when I did mine; I found a nice one on ebay for $25. Good luck and good to see they are invested in the truck.

The ignition switch on the column has slipt down a bit. The key switch is rolling back to far. Just loosen the the 2, 5/16 bolt's on the ignition switch and push it up towards the steering wheel . Tighten is bolt's and it will start.

This is amazing to watch! I did a 79 F100 with my twin boys when they were about this age. Was some of the most fun while also being the most testing of my patience. Not every day you find teenagers who take an interest in something like this!

One of the things I love about square body trucks is that there is actually room to sit on the fender instead of leaning over. So, with that said, y'all are doing it wrong. 😁 There's also a style of creeper that you lay down on, over the engine. Don't know if one would be tall enough to work with the lift on that truck.

The metal bar on top of steering column is your problem and get some safety glasses on them girl's

That young lady with green hoody is one great lady gets stuck in and is willing to help and learn real credit to all her family

its gonna take a lot of sanding... I was a painter.. we painted one of the guys trucks in a morning.. looked about that bad.. 5 guys.. one guy just on the inside of the bed.. pressure wash it .. clean the engine compartment with degreaser, clean the wheel wells and the engine and trans and diff.. you got to get all that spray paint off then sand it with 180grit dry and then 220grit wetsand so its so smooth that you can run your hand across it and not feel any chips or defects... then spray it with primer filler and sand that with 400grit with water.. then tape it up and spray it with acrylic urethane ... its an old truck you could just paint it with single stage paint that has the clear coat in it.. put on 3 coats and you should be good.. or base clear is a bit more trouble 3 coats of base then 2 coats of clear... single stage is like spraycan paint but its actually good quality should last a few years. You will need probably a gallon and a half to do the whole truck.

I love how you have 3 “gophers” to retrieve your tools lol…as I get older (and have a spine injury) one of the biggest challenges that discourage me from wrenching is getting up off the creeper 🤦‍♂️ (it can be painful and therefore exhausting). I find myself grabbing any and every tool that I may need and “trying” to keep it in arms reach (with an extendo magnet to help with reach 😂). Just started a project with my 15YO daughter to replace the head gaskets on her first car…we got it as a project knowing that it needed repair…originally thought we had a year to “tinker” but here we are, 1 month before she takes her drivers test and we are thrashing to try and get it done 🤦‍♂️ …I am taking notes on the patience you have 👏🏼…time together is the beautiful thing, knowledge about cars is just an added bonus. ❤

Glad to see the girls getting in there. Check the drivers side crossmember bolt..looks like the nut is backed off. Hard to tell for sure but looks like it. I have 3 granddaughters myself..fun times had by all.

It’s the “wrench-hammer” and “screwdriver-punch/chisel”…great lessons in being resourceful…also need to teach that “good tools” are strong enough to be used in a variety of ways but cheap tools are more likely to break when not being used as intended ✊

The ignition switch is attached to a rod that pushes a sliding plate in the switch actuator module halfway down the steering column. That sliding plate aligns the power, starter and accessory functions with terminal links that connect to the corresponding wires going to those destinations. It has the spring that kicks the ignition switch from start to on. The quickest fix for someone in a hurry who really isn't that mechanically IQed is to buy a used steering column.

Getting to spend time with your son and granddaughters is priceless and a great day any day, they will remember this for years to come. What a fun project for them to get to sink there teeth into. The ease and simplicity of these rigs makes them a joy to start gaining knowledge on and should send them off into the world with the confidence most people there age simply haven't acquired. Kudos to you for starting them out in the right direction. Looking forward to seeing this old truck gaining a new lease on life in the process. Good job for the removal and replacement of the U-joints girls way to persevere i know grown men that couldn't do that job and would never even try to and you all didn't even blink! That's a proud Dad and Grandpa moment for sure! Keep that additude positive and you will be driving that truck in no time. Heck as a viewer I am proud to see that there's a few kids willing to get a little dirty and dive into something out of there norm like fixing up this square body. keep up the good work and content catch you on the next one.

I noticed at the beginning of part one when you guys first got into the truck when you guys got the truck there was couble of wires that was hanging down that had a jumper wire in it that is the neutral safety wires then towards the end when you were loading the truck on to the trailer the jumper wire was gone from the neutral wires.

When I saw the 1st video of the purchase of the square body. I immediately subscribed. I’m a die hard Chevy man. I have 2 square bodies. 85 4wd lifted. And a 76 2wd swb lowered. Bought the 76 as a birthday present to my 3 year old son. We are currently putting a 5.3 Ls in both of them. So far loving the Chanel. Can’t wait to see more of this beautiful rig.

Great to see the gals taking on obstacles you are a great papa ham teaching them no obstacle to great for god and effort,no matter the hurdle they will always have ur lessons just get it done and overcome.as with any lesson be sure to show them leverage can be your friend,that and a gas axe when all else fails!!!plus show them how to prepare your hands for when a wrench slips or hows a socket with 9points grabs better than a four point.you know mechanical advantage multipliers n such.all those great little tips to prevent busted knuckles n rust in our eyes.you got them going in right direction,theyll always recall papa hams quirky qoutes fondly throught life.i know my pappy was silent type but he showed me how to enjoy n appreciate our gods gifts thru hunting.miss ya pap!!!😊😊😊😊❤❤

Hank You all should set up any nuts or bolts you are trying to loosen or remove especially the girls that it is much easier to turn a wrench and not strain anything if the wrench is in a position to be pushed down on instead of trying to lift as your body weight and muscles will assists in having better leverage. Hope this is helpful..

Hi 👋 I am happy that your teaching the girls little bit more how to fix things yes we all know sometimes pain for today. Better for them now what they doing let’s say dealer gonna fix fix it for you. Fix the car for you. You’re gonna tell this this this is wrong. Need to be fixed on her car all a lot of them will scam you to make some extra money that does not need to be fixed $131 dollars an hour or more Today, maybe you should tell them that for they can learn fix it themselves like brakes on the truck because today, the newer cars you need technology work troubleshoot what’s the problem?
