So very calm audience - in 1966, listening to such music, I tore the buttons on my shirt and the curtains in the room

Let those kids dance to this tune if you want a better world. Come on, they crave it. Don't turn this song into a church hymn.

This was really kool, until the camera panned to the children and then back and fourth to the adult creeps that are playing it.Dude ,it has to be one of two things ;either, innocently but ignorantly you were lost in the translation and really have no idea the meaning of this song in english.Or ,you have no filter and didn't consider or care how highly inappropriate this particular song would be to teach little kids to sing along with an adult creepy band🤔

To calculate the number of egregiously shitty covers of "What'd I Say?" that exist, roughly, take the number of musicians on the planet & divide by roughly four. THANKS FOR NOT BEING ONE OF THOSE!!! (This "Parade of Fails" DEFINITELY includes John Mayall's whiny-un-swingy Excessively Caucasian version, but oddly NOT the version Sammy Davis Jr did with Nancy Sinatra [no, that isn't a surrealist-absurdist joke trying to make up the most improbable team one could cough up from a stoned-to-the-gills "how far-fetched can YOU go?" contest between drunks: that pair did a MUSIC VIDEO of it [like, 250 years before MTV 'invented' the market], a video [well, film] that was **literally** the only source my band could find that covered BOTH parts 1 & 2 of the tune (Ray's most famous performances/recordings of what was arguably his ne-plus-ultra **masterpiece** were all of just "What'd I Say, Part 1", serious fans will be aware)...no sh*t: they were the ONLY recording of "Parts 1 & 2" in one go that EXISTED for many years: check 'em out...it won't have the shock value WE experienced, since we didn't "Spoiler Alert" it for you....but it's still a tangy little historical delicacy -- one I hope John Mayall saw so he could be properly & FULLY fkn ASHAMED he oh-so-whited his screechy-ass near-polka-ish take . ] Below ("What'd I Say--obeying the posted speed limit:") is the take my band ("Mark Collen's Trouble Monkey") scraped together after their "1&2" cover revealed the whole call-&-response "ay-oh" chunk etc: The NOTABLE thing here (yes, there kinda is one) is: Our superb drummer [Joe Mohr, of Bozeman, MT] was inspired [yes, weed was involved, why do you ask?] to drop the drum solo from "Wipeout" smack in the middle of the tune....where, I swear to Christ, it fits PERFECTLY!! [The "Wipeout" solo, for you "jump to the meat" types, is at about 3:06)] It was a superb touch, and **right at the limit** of Joe's top speed in his fastest gear. So, proving once again that 'no good deed goes unpunished,' every night, as we neared his solo, the tendency for that tune to speed up [as the excitement infected us & the usually wildly-dancing crowd in a heterodyning feedback loop], it was like Joe was a passenger in a car headed for a cliff faster & faster & faster...so he'd get this anxious look on his face, & do his best to signal us to rein it back a little, to drag it back to sub-supersonic tempo...& every night it was **right on the edge** of almost-too-fast-for-mere-human-powered-sticks....which we [two guitars & a bass] always found HUGELY amusing--but Joe not so much lol. But he never fumbled it: not once. We had another tune, "Ballin' The Jack," though, where Payback came back around: Joe could just **machine-gun** the tempo, & we all had to struggle to meet HIS buzz-saw attack lol. Here are those two tunes, for anyone interested in hearing that sonic battle of wills lol. What'd I Say--obeying the posted speed limit: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pK9hhZyFr6zVnZc.html What'd I Say--just that **tiny** bit faster that made Joe's start to roll a little like a horse that smells smoke & sees a barn fire in his near future: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bcuCndiQ19SUg40.html And, just in case you thought I was harsh or kidding? Here's Mayall's (ack, phtui, blaggh) "version": kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grF-YNuIuLTUnGQ.html For those curious about the rest of it (& not yet OD'd on Trouble Monkey-shines), here's the "I'll race you" PAYBACK tune (it might not sound **that** fast in absolute BPM...but in order to sound right, all those short, choppy guitar rhythm-strokes had to be DOWN-strokes...no cheating with lazy-ass up-&-down 'strumming' or 'sweeping' picking....& all-downstroking, you hit a speed limit that just doesn't happen in a 'fanning', high-speed 'up&down' pattern...or, at least, structurally affords some blurring/slopping without the wheels actually falling off like they would if you tried that sh*t in precision-punching-all-downstrokes mode.... Ballin' The Jack (Trouble Monkey): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b8ilitSH07OYnHU.html And, finally [hey, I **heard** that muttered "Thank Christ, it's almost OVER!!", you impatient (yet gracious & no-quittin') bastards... ] , here's the Mike Bloomfield tune that we **kinda** emulated here--which is notable for two things: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rLVmorWGx7Opqmw.html One: while Bloomfield's manic genius on the six-string put him firmly on Blues Olympus, you can hear, at the beginning, how the sublime, near-magical intensity he poured out onstage jes' **might** lose a little of its appeal if you were some merely-human mortal type that he expected his-level musical co-piloting from... kinda like getting on the mat with Bruce Lee: sure, it's inevitable/foreseeable that he'll run circles around your non-legendary ass like you're doing a rigor-mortis impression....but what probably **didn''t** occur to you until 'go-time' is [a] just how vast & unbridgeable was the gap you'd face (between his standards & your capacities), and [b] how little interest or concern the 'gods' take in softening that blow for you: like, "Listen, man, I know you ain't a genius too, but could you at least not drag me down to your level?" Lol.
