This LRRP series is awesome! These men are true warriors. Among the best of the best. I've read some of their books. I encourage others to do the same.

Why are you such a Kool Aid drinker? The man risked his life for absolutely nothing. Apparently being the "best of the best' doesn't include having a functioning brain to go with it. Vietnam propaganda is shaping your brain.

So well spoken, I found the country to be very beautiful but also very dangerous. You could tell when you would get close to the DMZ, all the bomb craters everywhere. Some idiots were known to throw grenades at the rock apes, that was stupid. I still remember the smells, their foods smelled so bad. I can recall being dropped off for a 45 day time period and we had to continue for just over 90 days. We would get some supplies dropped by helicopters but we went 7 days with nothing to eat. I sent a photo to my mom and she and her siblings all said they cried. They said they could see my ribs but even today, I am not disturbed by the photo, I still have it. I volunteered to stay longer and lost several friends and two close friends who i still remember their passing and respect them every day i live. Why them and not me, God only knows.

Thank you so much for your dedication and service to our country during this time. I heard a story one time about a tiger that was killed on a patrol. It was a female that had 2 cubs. The cubs were brought back and one ended up being brought to Camp MacKall for a while before ending up at the NC Zoo. It simply had outgrown it cage at Mackall and may have nipped someone as well!!! Thanks again and God bless!!

Wandered 100 meters or so into the jungle in the Philippines once. My first thought was "how do you fight in this mess?" There could have been 50 people within 30 meters of me and I would have had no idea. No camo required even, just people wearing street clothes.

You learn to listen, to feel . There's some general sounds and shapes you begin to discern over a short period of time that should and shouldn't be there.

Monsoons would rain extremely hard for maybe 30 minutes and than stop until the next day. I served in the central highlands the monsoons season was from late March till October or November. I disagree that monsoons lasted days, in no way. I wasn’t a LRRP but did patrol the same area.

All young people need to hear of these accounts. It’s an unbelievably nightmarish world they endured most of us will never comprehend.

I agree! It's almost unbelievable that I was there at 18 years, but the memories are very vivid ! I will never forget on my 19th birthday , excuse my language , I was taking a leak at dawn just barely braking light and rockets and mortars went over my head and I said to myself happy birthday Tom ! Then we were under a full assault by VC & and NVA ! This assault lasted for maybe 4-6 hours , then Puff ,. cobras and attack jets finally arrived , thank God , some came in inside our primater , some of ours wounded , but it happens in war . Anyway ,I ran off at my mouth too long , When I look at the 18 year olds and my children and grandchildren I simply can't believe that I was fighting for my life and my brothers at my left , right , rear and front, as I see our youth my age at the time playing videos. I am so grateful they are children playing as they should be not in a f______jungle and rice paddies ! Then I see them killing each other on the streets, robbing , muggings and allowing illegals into our country that I felt I was fighting to keep us safe and this administration letting them in to murder and rape our citizens, giving them phones , room & board more monthly money than most of us on fixed income ! Sad ! Vietnam Vet Tom, forgive me for running my mouth !

You know pal... Vietnam was not "rocket science'. I am a proud Vietnam/Draft resistor, and I made sure I didn't ask the stupid question, "What did I get myself into". It's good to THINK before you ACT. You did absolutely nothing for American freedom and security being there. You should have figured that out when you were 18 like I did.
