You are correct that Moly EP is best used in worn engines. Thats its design. An engine without a bunch of wear would be best served with just the oil. We did a cement mixer Cummins that leaked and had terrible blow by. We treated 1 pint to every 3 gallons of oil. It dried up in 1 week. Truck went from 220-250 hours on oil to 750 on first change as dictated by the oil analysis. Wish you had some used oil samples with and without to go along with this. Great video!

I for one consider your videos as kind of a university course, supported by scientific testing, analysis, and your learned opinion. Your channel is one of the more unique ones dealing with these issues on a consistent basis. You have opened my eyes on the importance of lubrication in todays high tech systems. We have so many issues with todays engineered motors and drive trains, with out of warranty repairs being out of reach for many vehicle owners, that preventative measures is the best defense we have against catastrophic failures that we cannot manage to pay for. Our population is ageing with many seniors doing what they can to keep their last new vehicle on the road for the rest of their retired life. Your videos are the best guide I have found on making the best decisions I can on what goes into my vehicle. I deeply appreciate the effort. With great respect... Joe

I ran it in a 2020 raptor since it was new, maxed out 93 tune and bolt ons. At 70k miles tuned the whole time, I never heard any cam phaser noise which was a factory recall, and only drained about 2” of oil through out its life out of the catch can, frankly amazing if you ask me. I was turned on to it by reher Morrison engine building school.

I use MolyEP in my 7.7qt coyote. 1pint for the whole 7.7 instead of mixing at the higher treat ratio they suggest. Basically turns the 5w30 into a 5w40. The base they use is extremely high quality. For having moly on the bottle it’s only in about the 50ppm range but what you won’t see with Blackstone is that it also contains 40-50ppm of antimony.

When I had my Jeep Wrangler 392, I switched to the Schaeffers on the 3rd oil change. Maybe it’s a mental thing or I was having delusions but I swear the Jeeps mileage jumped by 2-3 mpg. It’s also possible that I changed it at the transition of the motor being fully broken in but it did run a tad quieter. Schaeffers is pretty darn expensive so hopefully the benefits of using it will make sense. I’m going to run the last batch of the Pennz in my F-150 then may go back to the Schaeffers. Great vids Rich. Appreciate ya.

I have a 2011 F150 with the 5.0 engine and 126K miles. The engine used to do that typical typewriter noise (unrelated to the fuel rails). I poured a bottle of ATS Chemical 505-CRO in and closely followed their directions before my last oil change. This engine got oil changes every 3-5K historically at the dealer and I was amazed at how much carbon came out when I drained the oil myself this time. The engine even ran better and better as I was circulating the additive cleaner 505-CRO. I replaced the oil with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30 and of course used the Motorcraft filter and was astounded at the difference the cleaner and new oil made. The typewriter noise is barely there now and I'm not getting much oil consumption if any. Checked my oil level after 1K miles and the level was still good. Made a huge improvement. You might consider reviewing their products at some point. Otherwise thanks for the videos, I've found them to be very helpful and may God Bless your day.

Gave you a thumbs-up Rich. This oil additive looks like it might be "okay" for a hot climate, but not good for a colder climate, especially in a sub-zero climate with a lot of snow and freezing morning starts. That 10W60 just doesn't sound good for those very cold climates. Better to stick to a 5W20 or 5W30. But that Schaeffer 9000 oil looks like a real high quality product! It's so good you don't need to add any extra oil additive--it looks just fine just on its own.

I've heard some owners of 28-20 F150 5L owners who experience noticeable oil burnoff have fixed it with a couple oil changes using a moly treatment. Basically the theory is the moly gets into the imperfections and pits in the factory plasma spray on lining and helps fill which keeps oil from escaping, and allowing the rings to seal properly. IDK my 18 5L doesn't experience noticeable oil burn off, but if yours does why not give it a shot. I've put this stuff in my 03 Lightning with 210K, and that engine still runs as smooth as my 18 5L. The only noise I don't like is I think one of the auxilary idler pulleys has a bearing that's starting to get a little noisy when cold. It happens occasionally, and a $10-$15 bearing replacement fixes the problem.

That's really amazing results. It actually would b perfect for certain scenerios when u don't want high viscosity across the board but only when really hot. I actually have a vehicle that I rebuilt the entire engine twice (too much to list) very careful and ocd. But it has a super low oil pressure only when it's 100 degrees outside. I already bumped the oil weight up to 20/50 with 20.8 viscosity which is one of the highest 20/50's. It runs perfect with high oil pressure all year until it's 100 and I'm at idle. I also went in the ecm and bumped idle up 275 rpms. And my thermostat is removed and it runs much cooler. I drive around w my scan tool monitoring everything. So in this one situation where I only want bumped up oil pressure when real hot.... This sounds perfect. But I do agree that it's a case by case basis w many factors. Thank u for the video. Appreciate u.

I love watching these and learning, but I went to a line of thinking after buying my first new truck. I'm going to pay the dealer for the maintenance. Ford designed the engine and tested it around their lubes, and that's good enough for me. I have had friends damage engines (these friends are NOT on your level, bear that in mind) by using after-market oils and additives. My 6.7L diesel costs what, $15,000? You can buy a small car for that! This is why I let Ford deal with it. If they break it, it's on them. Having said that, I have a great dealer and their diesel guy is VERY good. Maybe not A-Rod level, but good. I'd trust you with my 2001 Ranger any day. Thanks for your time and money. I suppose if I ever get enough money where I can recover if I screw up my ride, I'll try some of these oils you tested and found to be good. This one blows my mind with how thick it got!

I'm considering a change from Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 to Schaffer 5W-40 for my 2018 F-350 6.7L diesel. I'm curious how increasing the viscosity of the oil using the Schaffer oil additive affects the oil flow. The last thing you want is reduced oil flow. I think I'll pass on the additive but using Schaffer oil is certainly a possibility for me. BTW, I've had no problems at all using Rotella other than availability at times.

Thanks for the review been waiting to see this one. I personally have been using schaeffer products for a long time. The chevy cobalt i drive back and forth to work everyday has been getting this stuff since i got it and i have not had to do any major engine repairs and getting close to 300,000 miles. My coworker use lucas in his 14 silverado with mobile 1 0 w20 lol and he hasnt had any major engine reapir either. I know of transmission repair shops using higher quality mercon v instead of lv or the ulv (ford) dex 6 or hplv (chevy) with good results. Not saying do this either. I have my conspiracies about stuff like this. I like to think manufacturers dont always engineer cars for longevity especially these days. They are only engineered to satisfy the epa.

Hi there. Thanks again for what u do. I left a few other comments last week. But I talked to Schaeffers about the base formula for the Moly ep and they said it was pao. Not Petroleum or ester. They also said it didn't have Antimony but a small amount of zinc and Moly. I've seen other voas that said it did have Antimony. So honestly I don't know what the truth is. She said it's mainly a VI improver. But at least it gives people an option if they want to thicken w a pao or Petroleum. So there's that for what it's worth to anyone. Thanks again. Have a great day

I put 3 oz in with the oil change of Shaeffer's 0W20 after 10000 miles. Blackstone says my viscositieswere dead on for a 0w-20 oil. I like how the Molly ep gives me better gas mileage and really quiets down a noisy engine in the fit. Blackstone also said that my ware medals were much lower than a regular seventy five hundred mile oil changes in other customers same engine I have a 150000 miles on this engine and it feels exactly like it did when it was brand new. I was told if you put it in their oil it would have too much molly. Maybe a better test would be with some Lucas synthetic oil and the Molly EP.

I think on a new or young engine that see temperature swings this would definitely make it an old engine quickly just from trying to pump maple syrup on start up. Older looser toleranced engines though I believe it would work great for.

Your ratio might have been a bit high. Its a 10:1 ratio. Using a gram scale to get exact #s would have been better. 200g oil 20g additive.not trying to burn on ya. You do amazing work. Just thinking out loud. Thank you for the wonderful advise and knowledge you pass on brother.

It wasn't High because it said you can put it in there four to five parts so your statement is off I made sure that no matter how I put it in there that it was between 4 to 5 it says it treats 4 to 5 quarts I don't know how that's not understandable It was put in to accommodate the middle of treating four to five quarts
@johnaclark1
@johnaclark1 Жыл бұрын
@@FordBossMe The bottle reads "add 1 pint to every 4 to 5 quarts." 1 pint is half a quart so that's between 8:1 and 10:1. Your ratio looked like about 5:1 but, admittedly, it's a bit hard to see in the video. That said, I'm not sure thickening the oil that much is a good idea on VVT engines anyway.

Have you ever heard of hydrotex out of OK? They make a fuel additive that is supposed to help water bond to fuel to burn and an oil additive to help with viscosity breakdown,rings, blowby, and seals.

I used to run that oil in a couple super duty's and a twin turbo cap car. It was butter at first but I felt it got beat up and lost the smoothness after a few thousand miles. Hell, even mobile 1 didn't do that to me. Gave up on it after a few years of using it. Never tried the additive. Went with fords full synthetic for the duty and liking pennsoils oils made from natural gas in my current car, an 08 vette.

Was the mix ratio correct in the testing? If 1 pint to 4-5 quarts, then 1 part EP to 8-10 parts oil. In your vial, it really looked like 1 part EP to 4-5 parts oil, which would be twice the recommended ratio, unless I misunderstood something. I really appreciate all of your oil testing.

Project Farm had the AMSOIL in His testing Beating out Everything he Tried Inc Pennzoil Ultra Plat, and the Schaeffers?? Curious about the Areas where the Schaeffers was better in because it didn't make it to the Show in His Testing. It got Beat out be the Pennzoil Ultra Plat, then AMSOIL beat out the Penz.

I wouldn’t use it in a car or truck in warranty or even one that was in good shape. It’s probably worth in an engine with 250,000 miles and uses a lot of oil, to get a few more miles out of it.

I have a 2003 Silverado over 350,000 uses no oil.. Had been using their oil. Lifters started clicking. Had them changed. After the mechanic got it back together. They were still clicking. The oil pump had failed. How long it had not been pumping. I do not know. But I think if the Mechanic had just replaced the oil pump it probably would have been ok. A lifter job does not come cheap!! Can not remember what else they replace. Silverado Still going. Put this treatment in a 2000 LT1000 Crafts man mower. Was using a good bit of oil . Not any more. Still have the mower.

Hey, Rich! What was the cost of the Moly E.P. ? Was it a quart bottle. I like you. Have tried just about every oil and additive out there. Some of these are very high dollar. For us average Joe's. Been using Hotshot oil additive with my Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5w30 motor oil. 5 oz works very well in my 2.0 Eco-Boost. Wondering if you every heard of or used it? This Moly E.P. looks like it could extend the life of the oil. Never seen it before. Would like to give it a try. Great video! This will get everyone thinking about there next oil change. Shawn.

Oil additives are as old as the internal combustion engine. All they really have to do is to cause no harm. Real-world testing is all but impossible; I have a friend who swears by slick 50 but he has never run a parallel test without it so how can you really know? Regular oil changes with quality oils are still the best protection.

So that was a 1:4 ratio which is double the recommended amount. You did the equivalent to 1qt Moly EP to 4qt oil. 1pint per 4-5qts. A pint is half a quart. Prob why it tested so much higher viscosity.
