Here it's just, ok, I will wait 5 minutes but that is ok because I will eventually reach the counter or the bus door and nobody will knee me in the groin or snatch my handbag and throw it so they can take my place.

If they see a queue, people will usually just give up and come back later or next day in the time of the day when not many people are waiting in line. But if we have to wait in line (for cinema, theatre...) we wil complain CONSTANTLY, sigh loudly, swear under our breath, etc.

We queue in America also. And if someone tries to get round the rules, there’s a fight (depending on the area). Or exchanges students get a hard lesson on what “ standing in line” means.

mate, is the respect that lacks, i've been living in Italy for some years now and i truly hate queueing here, ppl are very pushy, arrogant and totally inconsiderate in comparison while they queue (whereas they are very friendly on other occasions). i'm not joking and i feel so relaxed queueing when i'm in the old Blighty. Also, while u travel u just tend to queue at museums or other attractions and others are mainly tourists just like you, but queuing at offices with only Italians can be really awful at times.

I remember being in Italy years ago. I watched while an elderly lady was trying to buy a roast chicken from a vendor selling them out of a van. It was obvious the queuing was not the de rigeur. She was getting jostled out of the way by people a fraction her age. Felt a little sorry for her. Queuing is a trait of an orderly civilization, first come first serve and wait your turn . I like to think humans have moved on a little from laws of the jungle. Queuing is not a weakness but a strength and an understanding of fair play.

Mostly because historically Europeans haven't considered Britain to be part of Europe and more as just an island in the north sea similar to Iceland or how the Japanese weren't considered part of Asia but as a separate entity. The French had major issues with England controlling land in Europe because the English had developed a completely separate identity to that of mainland Europeans even down to actual gender equality in the 7th century up until the Norman Invasion. Napoleon didn't even consider the British to be Europeans and that's why he didn't expect them to become as heavily involved in Europe as they did become during his empire building phase. Bud we also can have one tap with hot and cold it's not uncommon here in Britain as well. It's just older houses that have the 2 taps for the most part.
