In this video we cover what food we feed Magnus and Scout, our retired racing greyhounds. We also visit some farm animals and go for a walk in a snowy forest

This channel is one of the main reasons why we now have our own big dafty, one of the best decisions we ever made. If anyone is watching this and is on the fence about welcoming a grey into their home. Do it. You honestly won't regret it and this channel will also help you out with any queries you'll probably have.

A great video it’s good to see you feeding such a natural diet, my son has a business ‘Thumpers Pet supplies’ that sells all sorts of raw feed. I enjoy listening to the information you give and am getting a greyhound at some point. What are your or anyone else’s thoughts of having a greyhound and a giant rabbit. My Rabbit is the size of a small dog and lives Under the stairs in a gage

Thanks for watching. As to your question about the rabbit. I have heard of a greyhound living with a rabbit. It will no doubt depend on the dog. For Magnus and Scout it would be a no no.

Hello! thank you as always for sharing your wonderful videos! They have been so helpful for me (and my greyhound) over the last 1.5 years since adoption. Perhaps you can help me with one of our ongoing issues... I've been struggling to find a food that suits him and have recently decided to try raw food diet. However, it seems that this is causing some digestive problems. I'm wondering if that is normal when switching to raw food? Did your Greys have any trouble when you gave them raw food? Any tips on getting started with the raw food diet? Thank you!
@magnusgreyhound
@magnusgreyhound 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Glad you like the videos. Switching to any diet with Greyhounds can cause issues. You can buy a product on Amazon called pro kolon. Which can help firm them up during the transition period. It is also recommended to do a gradual switch over. So part of their food is the old diet and part is new and increase to the new type over time. You can also add things to the raw diet to firm them up such as pumpkin.

Hi guys, love to Magnus and Scout. Lovely dogs! My greyhound Todd has developed a habit of sleeping in my bed, which I'm trying to train him out of. So I was looking to get a crate for him. Would you recommend and, if so, where do you suggest I buy (he's a large boy around 30kg)? Thanks!
@magnusgreyhound
@magnusgreyhound Жыл бұрын
Calum, you may not need a crate, but you will want to have him sleep on his own bed. We do not allow the pups on the furniture or beds, mostly because Magnus had sleep startle and therefore it would not be the smartest option. Magnus loved his crate. It was his little den to get some quiet time. We bought the largest crate we could as we were not sure what position he would sleep in. We got our crate 2nd hand/used for around £15. I forget the actual dimensions but I state them in one of the early Magnus videos. We used to also put a blanket on top to make it more den like. We also used to leave the door open so Magnus could come and go as he pleases. Until you get the crate you can practice saying off and try to lure them off the bed. Hope this helps
@calummcnairney2900
@calummcnairney2900 Жыл бұрын
@@magnusgreyhound Thanks for that, I'm going to buy lots of training treats and gradually lure him off the bed, it may take time but worth persevering, as currently it's unsustainable. Young Todd gets sleep startle too sometimes, which is obviously not ideal if i'm in same bed as a couple of times he's tried to have a snap. When I've put him out the bedroom and closed my door, and commanded him to sit on his actual dog bed, he whines, and urinates or deficates around the house. It's challening, but I thought a crate where he feels comfortable might be a good start.
@magnusgreyhound
@magnusgreyhound Жыл бұрын
@@calummcnairney2900 if he is doing all the things you say when he is put out of the room, then crate training is probably worth doing.

Can Magnus be off lead at an enclosed public dog park without a muzzle? Or does he need to be muzzled when at a dog park. Adopting a retired greyhound in a week, unsure if they’re trusted around other dogs (especially small ones) without a muzzle?
@magnusgreyhound
@magnusgreyhound Жыл бұрын
When you first adopt your pup it is wise to use the muzzle when outside, especially for the first few weeks. It is all new to them (people, cars, animals, places) and they may get a bit reactive if scared. Especially when most have never encountered other animals, even other dog breeds before. Magnus got scared the first time he saw another dog breed. Magnus wore his muzzle on his walks for the first 2 weeks. During this time I was doing a lot of training at home, particularly "leave it" training. That being noted Magnus, whilst on lead, dragged me off a path into some brush chasing after the first cat he ever saw. I would recommend not going to a dog park until after you have had your pup a few weeks so they do not get overwhelmed. It is good to expose them to as many different experiences as you can just not all at once. When we took Magnus to the dog park for the first time. He had been without his muzzle for a few months. We kept Magnus on lead the first few times, as the experience was more about being in the space with other dogs. Greyhounds tend not to play the same way as most other dogs and tend to be happy smelling behinds and the bushes and trees, rather than playing rough and tumble as some dogs do. When you do go to the park I would recommend you use their muzzle. We tended to only let Magnus off lead at the dog park if it was empty as one time, at the request of other dog owners in the park, we let Magnus go zoomies whilst their were other dogs around. The other dogs got spooked by Magnus's speed whizzing past them and they got reactive towards him. If you start going to the dog park alot, you will learn which dogs your pup gets along and which ones to avoid. We tended to go to the dog park very early in the morning or on quiet times, that way he could have the park to himself and do his zoomies. After 3 minutes of zoomies Magnus was often ready to go home. Most visit to the park he spent sniffing things and had no interest in running. Hope this helps, all the best with your adoption and feel free to ask any questions that you have.

Apologies for any confusion caused. The Natural instinct food we feed Magnus and Scout has a table on the packaging on the appropriate amount of food to feed your dog based on the weight of your dog. I featured the table in an earlier video, but I neglected to include it in this video. Magnus gets around 900 grams of food per day which is split over 2 meals

@@magnusgreyhound LOL. No problem. I found the same chart on the side of the dog food, but they cut off way before reaching the weight of my girls. Lol.
