I have been to HK. It's a concrete jungle made by Britain. There is not a single tree in the urban areas. In mainland cities 1st tier, 2nd tier, 3rd or 4th tier, all the roads are trees lined on both sides.

there has been no improvement my uncle lived there during british rule and for years under chinese rule and he still says how much more violence and crime there is as well as less jobs tighter restrictions on basic human rights.before the chinese came along hong kong was one of the richest places in the world but now it is rapidly declining. please think before writing a stupid insensitive comment

@user-jz3sp3rb5t You're obviously lying. Hong Kong was full of triads before 1997, that's why they had a lot of triad movies. Moreover, the local people of Hong Kong do not have political rights. Not to mention freedom and human rights. Finally, with regard to wealth, Hong Kong's wealth was not brought by the British, but supported by the trade volume between Hong Kong as a trading port and mainland China.

I'm a Hong Konger who has travelled all over China and lived in UK for many years. Some of us Hong Kongers are like a frog in the well. China is more advance, cleaner, safer, lower cost of living, less tax, and has more freedom than the UK.

I'm so puzzled, up till 1997 the British never gave democracy and all position of power was held by the British. Im 47 and I have witness how life was there back in 1993-1994 when my father was stationed there for work. You guys were treated like 2nd class citizens. The young people don't have any memories of life under the British Empire. In their eyes, the British are the freedom fighters who tried to liberate their country from Chinese oppression. The older generation has a more nuanced understanding of the history, since they lived through it, but they are labeled as brainwashed by the younger Hong-Kongers. In their eyes, China is universally bad, therefore anyone who doesn't like China must be good.
