Great video. In particular, I am convinced that soft skills are really, really important, although it is common that many young (snob) PhD underestimate them. Thank you.

Hello Sir. I recently interviewed for a postdoc position and unfortunately I couldnt get through it. Particularly, PI asked wether "I would like to continue any of my earlier PhD work after joing here which hasnt been submitted for publication?". I answered I have been working on a project and If you permit then I would be happy to work along with the postdoc project. Did I do any mistake answering like that? Please shed some light on it and I thank you on advance.!

Hi again, hope you are well 😊 I have an interview by tomorrow, and I am afraid of one question, where do you see yourself? My A: I would like to expand my knowledge in the field of diabetes and pancreas organ and learning from you, and being prepared for a Junior group leader position in academia. My question from you: Do you think mentioning being a junior group leader is good or is it risky to say that? It would be great if you could give me a feedback. Thanks a lot.

Hey, Thanks for the video. Two questions: 1. How many publications you think will be reasonable to have when applying for high level Uni. such as MIT? Could you compare PsotDoc in University Vs. in national research lab?
@gradschooladvice9537
@gradschooladvice9537 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. I can look into a national research lab and make a video about it. For a high level university I would say having at least one, if not two papers would be ideal. Also depends on field, impact factor of paper(s) as well. One Nature paper is better than 3 papers in really low impact journals for example.

@@gradschooladvice9537 thanks for the quick response. A video with such comparison would be really great, especially in the context of future perspective to get an academic position in university. Thanks.

Thanks for your videos. Is intermediate English a barrier to getting a postdoc?

Nope! A postdoc in my lab came from Japan and spoke hardly any English. He did quite well for himself!

It depends actually. If your interview goes very well (communication is important) and you have the right skills for the position, yeah, it is not a problem. In addition, US, England and some other countries require TEOFL test as certification. In US, for instance, several Universities ask for the certification.

Castor is correct on TEOFL, but I’m not 100% sure if that is just for grad school or also applies for postdocs. I think it could impact, but it seems you have a decent understanding of English from the posts you have made on videos.
