In this video I would like to talk to you about what I think the modern Druids do and, maybe more importantly, what they don’t do. I said “I think” to emphasize that I don’t speak on behalf of all modern Druids.
Here is a list of resources to help you find out more about the modern Druids and Druidry:

The Sanskrit tradition, in the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, said the same thing about getting away to an isolated spot to meditate. Also, the importance of direct observation of reality is a theme of Sanskrit (Hindu and Buddhist) thought. It may be extreme to go along with those who say "it is all the same", but usually great teachers say similar thing using different words.

Thank you for this inspirational comment. My husband took his life last summer and since then I've had a very hard time being "alone" to meditate or to be in silence (I have to have noise on all the time, but I also have agoraphobia.) My parents take our toddler on Thursdays and Fridays and I WILL go to the woods nearby to meditate this week. I don't carry the hubris to say I'll do it forever starting now but I will begin to work on it. It's a process.

For most of my entire life I've felt a very deep yearning... a pull. I was born and raised in Tennessee in the USA and it's very VERY Christian. I tried for many years to believe. I respect the religion and Christ, but the Bible is simply stories to me. I yearned for more. So I traveled the world. I tried other religions and beliefs. But after several years, the yearning was still there. I've always called it The Universe or my Intuition. And I learned at a young age that it's always right. So I follow it. It eventually led me to the Pacific Northwest in the USA. To deep, ancient mountains and forests and trees... so many gorgeous trees. It lead me to my soulmate. To my career. But eventually, the yearning returned... until yesterday. When my soul FINALLY opened to the real answer... That ambient "power" I'd always felt drawn too wasn't just a god or the universe or the cosmic spirit... it's been Her this whole time. And as I sit here writing this, t's literally like everything, every experience I've ever had, every book I've every read, every dream that's ever appeared to me has all been for this very moment. Although I've been inadvertently already researching the foundations of Druidry for nearly the past decade, I only just now am seeing it all clearly. After searching on KZfaq, this video right here was the first I decided to watch. Everything you said resonates with me more deeply than I can currently express in words... Thank you for your perspective on Modern Druidry. Thank you for your creativity with this beautiful video. And thank you for the peace your soul radiates. -A long lost Druidess

Good for you Brooke. I too am from the south (Georgia) where I was immersed in Christianity. I found the Druid path after searching for a more authentic expression for what was resonating within me. Druidry helped me to understand nature, physics and even Christianity in a new way. There are esoteric truths in those stories. My teacher encouraged me to look at them just as I would a fairy tale or myth....doing that helped to enliven what I had previously dismissed. Not that you asked, just wanted to be encouraging. Very best wishes to you on your path. I dig your training videos.

I have referred to myself as a sort of nondescript pagan, choosing more to explain spirituality through individual beliefs and practices than an overarching name. It was only recently that it came to my attention that druidry was not a closed practice, and that much of what I already believed fit within it. I'm looking forward to learning more about druidry. Thanks for sharing this video, it was a soothing watch.

Thank you for your comment! Druidry may be an overarching name, our spirituality may even have some naming/branding problem, but we druids are different and many of us (if not most) believe that it is more important what we do and why than how we want other people to call us. Best of luck to you on your spiritual path be it named druidry or not /|\

Fascinating. Although I am originally not from England since I moved to London in 2013 I started to create this deep yearning to connect with nature and the land. Since then I have found my inspiration in nature. I have followed a diverse path of Spirituality. Once I visited Avebury during a spring Equinox and what I felt goes beyond any words or under-standing. It's like standing in a vortex or a whirlpool of energy.

I discovered Druidism as a boy while reading the encyclopedia. I'm not a fan of Christianity. Most religions strike me as toxic. Druidism appealed to me because I like nature. Druidism seems to be a healthy way to live in harmony with the universe. That is my goal. I want healthy relationships.

Hello, great video and what a beautiful forest! Just last week I celebrated a personal milestone of being a member of the Reformed Druids of North America (RDNA) for 10 years. In those 10 years I've focused on community-building and advocacy, as well as becoming druid clergy within my Order and serving in a ceremonial capacity as well. In the past three years I've also started doing volunteer hospital chaplaincy for local druids and pagans. Though there hasn't been particularly high demand for it (a couple times per year, maximum) since our numbers are relatively small in the world.

A very nice little video, thank you. I became a Buddhist years ago. Things kept coming into my mind whenever I was close to nature which left me with a sad, lonely feeling. Once I realized that nature has a 'spiritual' aspect to it the feelings stopped and were replaced with something quite special. So I incorporated Druidry into my faith and the world, both spiritual and material, has made sense ever since.

As a Christian and a Druid, I believe them to be on two different sides of the same coin. Druidry does not automatically imply that one is a pagan. In fact St Columba of Iona, Catholic Monk and Evangelist to the Picts, called Christ his great Archdruid. We also see tons of Druid practice in the Western Isles of Scotland and majority of them are Catholic. So to be a Druid doesn’t mean to be pagan. In person practice of Druidry I see it as being a cultural minister, not a religious one. This being only one part of druidry, it involves being of service to your fellow man and creation. This is done by gaining natural wisdom from creation and sharing it with others. Sharing your meditations and the fruit of those to others for personal and self growth, but also service through activities which promote human help and further growth in society as a whole. As a cultural minister, I do naming and welcoming ceremonies, including clothing a child in the family tartan of his clan, handfastening and funerals. To be a Druid in service is to be a minister to the people in the cultural sense of the that Celtic identity. In essence, I leave the church to do their job (one side of the coin) and mine is to accompany the person in the rites of initiation and cultural ceremony of the Celtic peoples (the other side of the coin). This requires a knowledge of many things and is learned in any Druid training either OBOD or AODA.

A little bit sad, that you decided to make your videos in English :( But it's your choice, and I respect it. As a modern druid, I try to find knowledge about our Slavic culture and tradition as much, as possible, and compare it with Celtic one. I read many myths, legends, and of course, fairy tales, even try to play ancient slavic music instrument - "gusli". In the near future I'll tell you about my research some more :) Also, as druids and naturelovers, I think we must take care of wildness, help to stay clean forests, rivers, lakes, fields, and do whatever we can. Tell people about importance to respect, and take care of nature, because I think, that many of them forgot. In general, lead an ecological lifestyle.

I consider druids my brethren, my siblings. I'm an eclectic pagan, my roots are in the faiths that have shaped me the most and that I have my heritage from: Finnish paganism and Hellenism. I'm a born Finn, but the Greek ways have always called for me, I've felt it in my soul as much as I've been able to see the daemon since I was 6. I've studied Druidism a bit, in my quest to establish my own individual faith and practice. We share a lot, we are all inquisitive minds that are kin with nature, respect it all as sacred as we are a part of it and all of it has the presence of various spirits and gods.

Well, KZfaq hid you for a year but now you have arrived at my door - you are most welcome :) If the environment in your video is your locality, I am envious :D A lovely path through splendid trees and that unexpected bank of flowers was a delight. I do consider myself a Druid but have long lingered on the decision as to whether to join OBOD or not - for me spirituality is a personal thing and becoming part of what is essentially the Druidic Church of England gives me pause. However, the feeling that there is much to learn and having a guide would be very helpful is gaining weight, so mayhaps it will not be too long before I take the plunge :chuckles:

Thank you for welcoming me at your door! It’s good to be there:) My channel is small and I don’t promote it properly, so KZfaq hides it well. Yes, the environment in almost all my videos is my locality and I’m privileged to be a part of it. Indeed. You don’t have to join any order or organisation to follow the path of Druidry. Fortunately, there is no such thing as a “Druidic Church of whatsoever”. And OBOD isn’t the only one that offers courses, training and mentorship. Watch, for instance, my video on good books/resources on modern Druidry. It’s in Russian, but English captions are available. It’s a bit outdated, yet might be helpful. May you find peace and inspiration under the trees wherever your path leads you /|\

We have always been seekers of new and old knowledge , the judges where referred as all men bow and heed the king but the king heeds the council of a druid. I've always thought I was a Shaman, but I have recently been reading more about druids, and realize that there isn't much of a difference, not at least in the European sense. So as a born Welshman living in deepest Wales I now call myself a Druid Shaman. For me it's all about what I feel, to look at me I'm simply a regular bloke, wearing shoes, modern textiles, I have a smartphone and that shouldn't diminish a person spiritually in any way.

Druidic Greetings Denis, at the moment I am walking The Ovate's Path in the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids since 2022. As a Modern Druid I observe all our sisters and brothers of Mother Nature, I observe the shapes of the landscape. I eat as much organic, fresh and locally as possible. I practice bear feet Shirin-Youku. I study, research and practice everything related with Natural, Holistic and Quantum Medicine. I do volunteering work at a Wild Animals Rescue Center nearby where I live. I help others with healing work and natural plant based remedies, some of them homemade by me. In my walks I catch litter. I am learning how to make my own home made natural cosmetic products to protect Mother Earth. I quit use nails' polish to protect Mother Nature. As a handicraft artisan woman I search for natural fibbers and items as much as I can to protect Mother Earth. I teach my son, who have arrived physically to Planet Earth in 2007, the Love, Respect, Reverence for all forms of life in all Multiverse as much as I can. I read, listen music and seek Awen in everything and in every moment of my daily life. In this adventure on Planet Earth I have chosen to come as a Portuguese woman and at the moment I live in Magical Portugal, where I research ancient wisdom from these lands. I love to meet and chat with fellow Druids. Every time I pick up some plants, flowers, resins, etc. from our Sisters and Brothers of the Vegetable Kingdom I ask permission and after I say thanks, and I try to cause as less harm as much as I can to our Sisters and Brothers of the Vegetable Kingdom. My Soul is Druid. My Religion is Nature and my Church are the Trees. For me Mother Nature/Earth is not a it Is a She. Thank you so much for the talk and walk, I have loved the video and the views of it 🙏🏼💚🌍💚 Love and Blessings dear Brother of The Path 💚✨

I liked your video very much. I hope this will help with the deeper understanding that you seek. The Tree, ('Druid' comes from 'Tree Wit', or 'One With The Knowledge Of The Tree') is a Primary Goddess Symbol. Tree worship is infact as old as the hills! Not, only do trees provide a habitat for many creatures & birds, but they also give shelter, food, honey, water, medicine & even the necessities for making fire! An ideal 'Mother Symbol' ! There's only one Goddess, but in Her Aspect of Wisdom, She is called Saraswati, (although She has many other names such as; Hathor, Catha, Freya, Circe, & Breghedd). The European Tree that is the symbol of Her Wisdom is The Ash Tree. In India though, (highly relevant), it is The Peepal, Ashera, Bodh, Mountain Fig, Buddhas Tree, (Ashera Religiosa)! We should remember that Buddha (Wise Man) gained enlightenment from beneath this very tree! It is also Yggdrasil (combining The Egg & Tree Symbols), & A Tree in 'The Garden'. The other 'Garden' Tree is The Terribond. In Europe, though, The Oak takes its' place & assumes its' significance. The Oak, & its fruit, The Acorn, are both named after Aukundi. She is another Aspect of The Maha Devi, (Great Goddess) primarily concerned with 'Life Energy'. She also gives Her name to Kundalini, & that specific area of The Base Chakra! This is Eves Tree, symbols being the essence of that particular Babylonian story! There are many more Aspects to The Goddess, & many more trees too! The Hawthorn is named after Hathor (Het Hera) for example, Heather too! The Male Aspect of 'God' should not be overlooked. The 'Priests of Baal', (Cohen y Vel) give us words; Carne (meat), 'Carnival' & 'Cannibal'. They are often referred to as 'Druids', but as I have already discussed, The Tree only ever refers to The Goddess! Constantine, (although a contemporary), was not a 'Druid', but a 'Priest of Baal'. He believed that The Male God was Superior to The Female God. 'Baal' is Apollo (Baal, Abaalo, Apollo), The Sun Deity! Other names are; Suruyan, Murugan, Tamuz, Horon, Horus, Sol, Helios etc. He is regarded as generally benevolent. But, He is a God that bears another face, since He is also at times, The God of War! In this Aspect He has many more names, but a few are; Rama, Ahriman, Ares, Aries, Mahees, Mars, Apollyon. As God of War, He sometimes requires a human sacrifice. In this Aspect He is; Molech, Melcom or Melchis, of The Levante. He asks for a 'tithe', a tenth, a decimation! That should ring a bell or two! In Europe, though, Sheep, Barley, Honey & Mead were generally given to ensure a bountiful following harvest. Here Molech was known as Melcom, The Green Man, or Wicker Man. The practice stopped in James' time & was replaced by Guy Fawkes! Druids also acknowledged The Male Aspect, but were more alligned to The Female Aspect. The ancient Druidical 'Tau Cross', represented their Trinity. It is well over 6,000 years old. The Cross was symbolically hewn from a live Tree to form the Tau itself, or 'Thors Hammer'. It is associated with the beginnings of The Age of Taurus. The 'Romans' wanted to show their God 'Rama', their loyalty, hence the eventual demise of The Druidical way of life throughout Europe. The Druids were, in short, The High Priests of Gaia Herself, Tiamat, Maat, Mother Nature! They knew the right balance, They built it in their Cross. Thus then, this perpetual karmic struggle between the male (logical) & female (emotional). That alas is life in these Dark Ages! It is nothing new; Romans, Normans, Columbus, The Witch Hunts, The French & Russian Revolutions etc etc. A War upon the 'emotional' by the "logical', 'wrapped up' as something glorious, something to celebrate & commemorate by the winners! Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose!

I follow where my spirit leads me. My parents met in the Giant Sequoia forest and at a young age we went camping there. I felt at one with the trees and chipmunks, ravens and bears, and the stars, so vivid and humming. I am an American of many nationalities. My great grandparents were Welsh, Scottish, Irish, German and Eastern European Jews. I feel connected to the American land and its Native peoples, but also feel drawn to the tales of my ancestors, some of whom were bards in Wales and the family tree I have includes Cole Hen, Llywarch Hen, Morgan Le Fae, Bran and Branwen, even Joseph of Arimathea. Perhaps medieval monks added the storied people in with the royal line. So I feel a bit conflicted. Where do I belong? With the land of my birth and the sacred forest there, or with my ancestors who are from all over the globe?

I think "Modern" would mean that Druidry is being lived in the current space and situation the world is in. Nothing is really changed other than placing ourselves in the space and connecting to Nature. The elements are still the same, the directions still the same, plants and herbs still the same. Beannachtai!
@DruidWay
@DruidWay 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! I like how you explained the word “modern” in this context. Yes, modern Druidry is about living here and now. On one hand, not much has changed since the beginning: people are born, live, and die. The elements and the directions are still the same, as well. Yet, on the other hand, much has changed too: many of us have alienated from nature, many of us have lost connection to it, many of us have forgotten who they are. And that is how modern Druidry may help: it can help us to remember who we are and why we have come here.

ɬax̣ayam, denis! (Chinuk-wawa hello) I am Root of the Pacific Northwest of Turtle Island, and I appreciate your perspective! You outline many excellent points that I think are crucial to having an open mind balanced with discernment. Science is an excellent tool for telling us what is in the universe and how it works, but it cannot and should not answer any questions about matters of meaning, value, and purpose. I walk in the world as a druid through my work in forest management. I do my best to always be learning, and also to share what I have learned in a good way. I choose to believe in the unfathomable intelligence of the gods, and that it is wise to listen for the ways in which they may communicate. In my life so far, I have had three vivid interactions with gods. The first was with Siṃhamukhā, also known as the Lion-headed Dakini. She did not appear to me with a lion's head, but as a woman with blue skin. She introduced herself as Simha, which I found out later is greek for "lioness". She told me to "serve the path", but was quite cryptic about it. I would not know who she really was until years later, when I studied Greek and Buddhist deities, and made the connection. My spiritual mentor gave me CDs of the OBOD Gwersu, and I have been trying to walk as a druid ever since. The other god I have interacted with is the one known as Cernunnos, who has helped me see the beauty of the cycles of life and death in the first interaction, and in the second to confront the colonial, racist history of the place I call home, and the horrors that were committed here by the founders of the society in which I live and have benefited from. I was offered a vision of but one of the many massacres, and it was one of the most difficult choices in my life to dare to look, and it is one of the more difficult experiences I have ever had. I have not interacted with Cernunnos since then, as I believe I have much more learning to do about it. In this way, my faith compels me to meet challenges with a sense of purpose, and also reminds me to be humble. Deep peace of the snowy mountains to you, Deep peace of the gentle rain to you, Deep peace of the running wave to you!

Do Druids reincarnate? Do they travel through time this way. Are they here today? Has anyone ever thought enough of them to put a marker on the Isle of Mother or Holy Head. People talk of Druids as if we were not immortal. I didagree completely! The minutiae of being a Druid is completely available at your nearest Oak tree should you be a Druid. The whole point of Druids is to understand what our course is on our path through this existence so that we may learn the High Art of kindness! Not war Not money. Kindness! Right now and because your a Druid you surely must know the condition of the planet because Dannu is in constant communication with you. You know that Humanity is very close to sterilizing this planet . Right? You realize that for 6000 years money has lead Humanity down the primrose path You know that if money continues to be used Humanity will remain enslaved and all life on this planet will end.
@DruidWay

I like how you write about the High Art of Kindness. Bravo! However, I am not immortal. Neither am I mortal. This would be a too in-depth conversation to have in the comments. As for money, it was created by people, used and misused by people and will continue to be used and misused by people. There is no other way to get better at money than to learn about it and that would include the High Art of Kindness. This is what the circle of Abred has ever been, and that is why “the world's more full of weeping than we can understand.”

Thanks for your comment! I don't understand many things, but I think one of the roles of the wise people in the world of humans is to make people see and understand. Are you one of them? Are you here to help? And, by the way, I'm not living in Kali Yuga for I chose living in Abred.

i served a very powerful Druidess on Tara Ri , the hill of the kings , 4k years ago . it sickens me to see and listen to the distortion and corruption from other tribes , that have dam near destroyed my ancient Gael culture , most of you people talk about respect , then listen to the ones who have destroyed the ancient ways , im, talking about the roman church and the english invaders , which you read there books and listen to there people . De colonialise your mindsets , remember the path of the Oak leads to inis Fail ,

With all due respect, I cannot agree with your statements. The people whose books I read and whose talks I listen to didn't (and just couldn't) destroy "the ancient ways", as you put it. Some of them are English, some of them are Welsh. I have friends in Ireland too. If you can recommend me some good resources on the Irish tradition, I would appreciate it. But, please, don't think that if somebody's spiritual path doesn't lead them to the way you want them to go, they all spread corruption and distortion. They just go their way.
