Would be nice for you and/or Nick to go over how those numbers affect the ball motion. 60x4.5x20 makes the ball do this and 20x4.5x60 changes the motion to this. I know there is info on the internet but you two have so much knowledge that a Radical rundown on ball motion and layouts would be very informative to the viewers. 🙏🙏👍👍

I completely agree. Throbot testing always shows the two extreme layouts what do the in between layouts do?

20 degrees on your first example is the VAL (only thing matters for symmetric bowling balls, besides pin distance). Smaller angles will cause the hook to transition to roll quicker (snappier reaction). The 60 degrees is the drill angle. The drill angle basically tells you how early you want the ball to start rolling. The smaller the drill angle, the more right (left for a lefty) the core will be shifted from your grip, which creates an earlier roll (assymetric only)

@@SuperFatPainterMan81 Very correct 👍! VAL angle 📐 determines if the ball motion will be angular or continuous. Low VAL angle 📐 (ex: 20) will be more angular. This can be advantageous for conserving ball energy. Certain wet/dry lane conditions the preference might be a ball motion that is more continuous. A VAL angle of 40 could be a better choice. The drill angle 📐 determines when the ball will start to flare. Don’t forget about ball energy. A ball that flare early can be helpful, but it can also be a liability. Ball layout only affects ball performance about 7%. What is significant is surface! It affects ball performance as much as 60%. Surface is the grit texture of the bowling ball. Expressed as 1000, 2000, or 3000. Lane shine caused by the polish action of the ball return can alter surface to a grit of 4500 in little as five bowling frames.

Great video nice and simple explaining the "traditional" layout method. I learned Storm's layout method which I found easier as it's just inches at every level, this throws in angles/inches and such and messed with my mind, but Phil did a great job explaining it simply. Only wish he'd included a note about low/mid/high values for each number or what the various numbers do for ball motion.

Roughly If the Val angle is 40 to 0 it's pin up & if it's 50 to 90 it's pin down. Between 40-50 the fingers hit the pin. I started looking at it that way, last number is the pins vertical distance above or below the fingers. The first angle shifts the mass bias closer or farther from the thumbhole. Leaving pin to pap distance for more flare or less flare. It's my POV on it.

On the box for my Radical Innovator, it says "45x4x35" for "most versatile" (along with other layouts). I had mine drilled "45x4x35", it has been absolutely PERFECT for me. If this is a layout that is truly "most versatile", why would anyone want to drill any other layout, unless they have a whole garage full of bowling balls with very specific layouts. I can do just about anything I want with this ball. I don't see how I could ever drill this ball in any other layout, it just wouldn't work as well (for me) or be as much fun. This ball is awesome on almost anything.

Bowling definitely talks a LOT about the very extreme parts of the spectrum: huge strong covers, thick oil very flat, etc. Fundamentally the game spends most of its time in the very middle "doesn't do too much of anything" sections though. Glad it's working for you!

My general view is that layouts are partly ball motion design, and primarily for flare safety.

I have an old storm shift ball in my hand, I want to drill it, but I couldn't decide at what angle to drill it. I want it to save its energy and make a hard movement in the back. Can you help me? After all, it's old technology. I'm not a multi-tour player. I can say twener, I forgot to mention that

Can you explain the purpose or importance of the PAP? Many times we go into the Pro Shops and they will drill a ball without knowing the persons PAP. Help me/us understand. Thanks
Analogy for PAP importance: 2 guys are nearsighted, so they want to buy glasses. The doctor gives both of them glasses without an eye exam. The glasses improve both their vision, but without the exam prescription, visionwill not be precise. The PAP is the eye examination. Each bowling has a their own unique way of releasing the ball down the lane. Until you locate your own PAP, you will not be able to drill precise layouts for the ball motion you desire.

This was like the intro to what should have been the rest of a vid explaining layouts. This explained almost nothing. "These are the #'s on a ball..." great now what do they do, how they affect motion, why does BurnsNick use that goofy lookin grip style (he better then me so I really wanna know what it does for him lol). Not sure why this vid was put out incomplete.
@RadicalBowling11 ай бұрын
Not incomplete at all. This video explains the anatomy of what a dual angle layout is. There have been numerous videos from us digging into the numbers more from Mo & Phil. They're out there. As for BrunsNick's drilling, search for Sarge Easter Grip and you shall find his video talking all about it.
