I like watching lava lamps, sand pictures, and touching polished rocks ... I know I am NOT alone! LOL It takes awhile for my eyes to adjust, but I finally can see "depth" between the bands - - just fascinating!

I found your channel while looking for tutorials on rock tumbling. I enjoy your detail both in the finding and finishing. And now what to do with finished rocks. I inherited a tumler tumbler from my younger brother and my dad 35 years ago. My son was 9 then. But we never got started then. Recently I was helping my younger brother at the sale of his mom’s estate and a lady showed him a “tupper ware” bowl and asked if the rocks were included for 1$ marked on the lid. My brother looked at the rocks and at me and said he and Dad had tumbled them many years ago. He said he would not be able to get them back across the country did I want them. Our father was a geologist and really loved rocks, the natural world, and camping. (Reminds me why I like your channel). I accepted the rocks gratefully. When I showed them to my son and my grandchildren it was my 10 year old granddaughter that enjoyed them most. I told you all this to tell you the use we found for some of the polished rocks, the ones smaller than a dime, the girl likes to play mancala. It is usually played with 48 small glass beads. My granddaughter and I were able find 5 sets of 48 stones each in that bowl the right size to play mancala with. So if you have 48 small polished rocks make or buy a mancala board. Touching my Dads polished rocks never fails to bring a smile to my face even when one of the grandchildren just beat me at mancala. Thank you for your art. Once a good teacher always a good teacher.

Haha, I had to watch this twice because I was too busy admiring how uncluttered and clean your house is... I have 6 young kids, so my collections are stuck in my china cabinet for now. My son (13yo) just told me he wants to major in geophysics, so we have been collecting obsidian from deposits in Coso Junction, CA. Hi Rob, that was an awesome rock tour. I enjoy your videos so much and have learned a lot from you. I’ve only been polishing rocks for a month but we have always enjoyed going to the Lake Michigan beaches for the last 35 years or so and picking up pretty stones and rocks. We’ve got this big pretty pinkish rock sitting on the floor in our living room under one of the end tables. My wife has some crystal vases filled with stones in various rooms in the house and we have used the bigger ones for landscaping around the flower beds and pool. And now I’m building my polished rock collection. It’s a great hobby for the winter. Dave

I have loved rocks since I was a kid living by Lake Michigan. Came across your video by accident. Loved your collection. I will have to watch what you do. We used to always look for pretty "stones or pebbles" as we called them while playing in the lake where they were already all smooth by nature. I believe we spent more time looking for them than playing in the water! Wish I had them now as I grew-up appreciating them more and more. I have been to Lake Superior also but was afraid to keep any of them as nowadays, I didn't think you could take anything from the State Parks? Do you know the true answer to that? It was just at a little hotel on the shores of Superior where guests were burning driftwood! I was in horror seeing this as I am sure you know how much a small branch costs in the stores! The people from the hotel told me so much washes ashore and that I could take what I wanted, but I didn't as I thought with my luck I would get caught in another state that didn't allow it to be taken! TFS!

Iv been in to collecting rocks since I could go outside my grandparents always joked they were gonna get me a box of rocks for Christmas and I’d be happy lol but my boss I work for always teased me cuz I’d find rocks on the job site so one day he leaves and when he got back he said I got something for you and he got me a tumbler!!! I remember loving rocks since I was about 5 yrs. old or younger. I use to go outside and sit on the curb and collect the rocks that had been scattered to the curb due to traffic. I would love to look at them. Quarts was my favorite. I loved the ones that looked like gold too. I've never lost my love for rocks. I never got into collecting them and never knew about tumbling them. Thanks for the video.

Well, I’m a aerospace design engineer. I spent so much time on the stars now that I’m 54. Retired a few years now, I’m so into beach rock and shells. I guess I’m looking down now instead of up. ❤️❤️

I grew up in the UP, in Brimley. Our house was just a few hundred yards from the Point Iroquois Lighthouse. Left in 1986 for the Navy. Bought a tumbler a few months ago. Sure wish I kept all the Lake Superior agates I found years ago!

I have several fish tanks that I decorated with tumbled rocks and certain lights that highlight the colors. Slabs make for great habitats for specific fish. I wish I had gotten into the hobby in my youth as I lived in several countries growing up. Funny how I'm always eyeballing rocks when I'm out and about regardless of where I am. This is the first I have seen tiger eye on one of your videos. I bought one about the size of those off the street in Cannes Australia in '04 that was not brown. Honestly can't remember if it was red or green. I put it in a "safe place". From there we went to Caranda where they mine opals. Wow. Thank you for sharing!

I have a friend who has been collecting beach glass for 30 years. She fills hurricane candle holders with it, with a battery operated candle on top. She has a glass lamp filled with it, and she filled small glass Christmas ornaments with the small bits. Just some ideas.

My wife and I are arrowhead hunters, we’ve been hunting over 20 years . She worked in Michigan in 2017 . Since then we’ve been picking up agates and different rocks that would tumble AMAZINGLY. We would pay for shipping and your time just to have about a coffee can full of ours tumbled by you. But being a teacher I understand how time is a premium.😊. We’re from Tennessee. Someday we hope to come back to hunt at the U.P. Cross my fingers .

Money is always tight but I've always loved tumbled rocks and I just don't have the money or the health to get out and look or buy a Tumblr. I love your channel. What a gorgeous place you live in.

Nice Botswana agates. I don't have Botswana agates, but I have similar ones. Grey banded is what's said in the Amazon description. Back in junior high, my principal and I would order based on what time the next grit is going to be added. He is from Michigan, too. But he moved to Juneau as an HR Consultant, or something like that...it's been a while since he moved.

I remember when I was a kid when my family would stop at these rock shops, trading post, off rode museums, and etc..... When we took vacations and we could pick out your favorite colored tumbled rocks... They gave you a pouch about 6 inches deep 4 inches wide with a tie string at the open end... I think with a full pouch cost around 1 or 2 dollars back in the 60's....I still have some of those rocks today after 55 years ago.... I have 3 pouches each about 3 quarters full I covered each rock with toilet paper to protect the shine....

So organized it makes me sick! Or maybe jealous! Lol!

Some years ago I saw a wall display of polished rocks behind glass, the wall cabinet was fan shaped and the rocks were arranged in color order from dark to light, it was beautiful. I've also seen coffee tables that were display cabinets filled with polished stones.

hello hello! little nine yr old child here, I just started polishing rocks by hand lol. and my gosh it's so much fun! :D I just cant use a dremel bc it's quite dangerous and my parents are very concerned for me.

Beautiful collection, you do get a super great polish on your rocks. Also your workshop is sooo tidy! I would not want to show people round my workshop, it always looks like the aftermath of a bomb attack.

I’m getting there! I don’t buy rocks to tumble. I go down to the creek and grab some pretty sad brown ones. When I do that first tumble, opening them up is like The Wizard of Oz!

I bought a GIANT thick glass bottle at an antique show, used to make wine or beer I think. I plan on filling with my tumbled stones and set in a sunny window, probably would hold three times what you have in containers. A wild rock's worst fear, polished and stored in a tupperware dish in a dark cabinet!

Beautiful! Those would be lovely displayed in tall glass containers. It's kind of a shame that so many are hidden away. Also, jewelry makers would gobble those up, if you ever decide to de-stash!

My daughter bought me a tabletop rock fountain. The rocks included are so darn ugly! I like some of the small ones you have stored away, they would look so good in any fountain, so maybe you could put some of your most liked rocks in a table top fountain display? Our family also likes rocks, wherever we go we just have to get rocks! My oldest rock is from Pocono mountain in Pennsylvania, I was climbing up a bit to have fun, and a rock tumbled down onto my mothers foot...lol. So I saved it! That was my first rock back in 1972. We have most of our rocks from all over Michigan, just sitting in bags and boxes.

Yer a rock hoarder. I still remember when my parents thought they broke me of the habit. I just moved them outside, and stopped loading up the car when we went to the beach, or camping. My best piece weight 750lbs. Got hundreds of cool stones everywhere. I realized I had a problem when I moved out, and kept going back to bring my rocks with me. My roommate thought I was crazy. That from a guy who used to dress up like captain Kirk on the weekends. I do drift wood too.
