I stopped waxing. I've been using DPS Phantom for a few years. It's not going to replace race wax, but for serious recreational skiers, it's good- I still glide past most people on cat roads. You still need to care for your edges and base structure. It's not toxic like most good ski waxes, which are bad during application, and leave residue that ends up in the water supply.

SVST is across the street from Costco and has a retail outlet. I think they still have BBSEF support. They always gave me a discount when I showed my daughters were BBSEF. They have all this stuff and more.

I bought the same Dakine kit minus the iron last summer for under $80 off Skiessentials. I tried 1 base repair but it fell out in less than 1 run, so I really only use the sharpening tool as of now, which I find very useful. Jens at Stomp It runs 87 degrees too, thanks for the 87 degree tool is overpriced tip! Looking forward to the DIY video thank you.

I prefer to just spend $40 for a base and stone grind which includes edge sharpening (1 degree base / 3 degree side). I do that once a season since I ski about 30-40 days a year. No need for a wax since I am a huge fan of the Phantom permament base treatment. It would be interesting to know your thoughts about base structure patterns (linear, cross, chevron, etc) and which ones to apply for which types of snow when getting a stone grind. I have used linear in the past.

Hi Elliot -- have you tried FastStik yet? I'd been a dedicated waxer for ages but I was sold and now I've pretty much mothballed my wax gear. I think it's a godsend for saving time and reducing clutter for multi-day travel trips

Hello Elliot, do you want to review a ski I personally own? It is the Libtech Wreckcreate 90. The copmany apparently doesnt like advertising. Noone reviews theirs skis. But I am curious to know what you think. Skis are 3 years old, 179 mm length. An all mountain carver with magnetraction, good on ice. They claim its for park too, but I don't know. Not really soft. Mount point -4,5 factory recommended. I would send them to you at my own risk and pay retour in advance. You decide the time to receive them and send them back. Coming next season I have a new pair to ride so I'll probably be able to do without them. Non binding offer :D I have not checked shipping options yet.

Hey man, unrelated but had a question after watching many of your videos today. Seemed commenting on a recent one may be the best idea lol. Looking to finally buy my first set of skis. The two that seem to come up the most I see are the QST 92 vs Rustler 9. I’m 6 foot 185. Would you have an opinion on these? They both sound quite versatile. All I’m looking for is a good pair of skis that’ll last me awhile and to continue to improve. I’m a comfortable on all blues guy and will do an occasional black diamond. Ultimately just out there to have fun and want some better skis for that. Never will be trying to shred a black as hard as possible anymore (as I get older and don’t want to get hurt lol). Really enjoy a good blue through trees though

I think they're both good options, but the QST 92 is a great value I found it on Evo Here: www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=pl&ti=132&pw=372417&mi=10270&pt=3&pri=793410 Typically I do this for channel members, but I have some time free, I would say if you're more on trail oriented maybe lean towards the Rustler 9, but tbh I've only reviewed and tested the rustler 10. I do think the QST 92 is super versatile, comfortable and unique in it's feel, on top of that it's a great value. Just my 2 cents but I would lean slightly qst 92 since I haven't tested the rustler 9 and based on reviewing the rustler 10.

No diamond stones? Or Nylon brush? I've always been told to use the brass brush to clean out the bases of old wax prior to a hot wax, and then use a nylon and horse hair brush post scraping. But you use the brass brush post scraping? And on edges I've always heard just use a file to set the bevel (ie 2 degrees, 3 degrees) then to use less aggressive diamond stones after that to re-sharpen throughout the season (unless major damage that necessitates a file).
@RicketySkiReviews
@RicketySkiReviews 2 ай бұрын
If you look closely, the Brass brush actually has nylon bristles around the outside, so I think it's suitable for someone just getting into waxing, but you're correct they are useful tools. I think diamonds are great for smoothing off any burs, but probably not neccessary for a beginner kit imo, especially out west.
@Berg4357123
@Berg4357123 2 ай бұрын
@@RicketySkiReviews Thanks for the reply. I generally agree, but the reason I'd worry about just using a file for beginners is I used to just use a file (before I knew about diamond stones) and I destroyed the edge-life of a pair of skis I bought about 15 years ago. Now it did take about 3 years of file-only tune ups before a shop told me they couldn't work on the edges anymore due to me removing too much of the steel, but had I known about diamond stones I likely could have extended the life of the skis several more seasons. In my view a file + one mid grit diamond stone (which they make in the same size as the short files for those cheap side-edgers) might be best for beginners.

Just a question when it comes to waxing irons is there a big difference between them at all or like you said probably just different rebrands/ shells all made by the same OEM. I am looking between that one, swix t77, and one from demon. Anything I should specially lookout for? When you said the dakine iron seems to be the same as the swix is the swix iron you are referring to the t77?

I asked a SWIX/Toko rep this question stating the Dakine was the same one and he said the outside was the same mold, but the internal components were different.
