They are already forcing car companies to stop making vehicles that don't fit their guidelines. If you buy a vehicle with a V8 you have to pay a new tax. I own one of those cars, I had to pay extra when I bought the car, called "gas guzzler tax" and I pay again when I have to update my vehicle registration. Its the FEDS fucking people over for buying a reliable car and not a shitty EV that cant drive anywhere. I constantly drive up the East Coast and dont see a single place to charge an EV. Everyone agrees that we need to do BOTH. The real issue here is that we ALL need to deeply understand the BROADER ecological, economic, social, political and financial impact of EVs. There is no feasible solution to transition away from fossil fuels unless most of the developed world stops using them now and works together to develop sustainable energy infrastructures on a massive scale. Achieving that level of implementation will sadly be impossible before the worst of the effects of climate change are locked in. Even if all the policies to cut carbon that governments had put in place by the end of 2020 were fully implemented, the world will still warm by 3.2C this century. Governments and industry leaders will not take action, and people will not change their diets and lifestyles. It's already too late.

We use oil to make so many things, one of the most important being fertilizer. Whether or not humanity quits using gasoline isn't an option, it's whether or not the next energy source is ready. Indeed. Supply and demand should take precedence. If it's a product people want, and it works well, then it will grow by itself. Forcing the product, like forcing EVs, wind power, and solar power, cuts out the rule of supply and demand, and requires massive public funding and arbitrary 'green' taxation, to offset the inherently expensive and unprofitable wind and solar power... and the extremely expensive EVs, being only really a luxury product for rich people to show off, as they are so incredibly expensive and inefficient, even with rebates and other monetary incentives.

Not only battery tech, but this doesn’t even touch upon basic infrastructure. Take the power it takes to recharge a phone then scale that to a car, and people want to charge their cars in a hour or two. Which means higher amps. most buildings and places are not in any way built for this. It will create brown outs in areas that rarely or never had them .
