Just left Methodist Church after 20 years. Raised Catholic but no one ever told me the Catholic Church was to be a defender of HIS truth nor warned me that Protestants don’t know what they believe because there is no authority. For me this is all about Unity in The Truth. I cannot preach or teach or live out my Christianity if I don’t have some level of confidence in the teaching of my church. It looks like Catholicism is the answer. The Catholic Catechism is amazing!! I hope to influence other Methodists to see the light especially since the Methodist church is imploding because it isn’t even trying to find the truth regarding human sexuality. But I will be very loving and respectful and just focus on the Truth found here. Never really learned much that wasn’t pretty similar to Catholic beliefs. Just don’t have any of the fullness or depth of the Catholic Church.

I would become Catholic except for the fact that I can't perform the mental gymnastics required to accept papal supremacy. In the video he performs some excellent moves to try to force a biblical precedent to make St. Peter "the first pope". But the arguments are silly. "Because he said 'lets go fishing" and they literally went fishing is supposed to mean there's an infallible king of the Christians? What?... "I'm gonna pray for you because I know you'll deny me 3 times". Must mean he's the supreme Bishop? I can't accept this. It wasn't even a thing in the early church to have a supreme Bishop. That idea didn't occur to anyone at all in the church for nearly a thousand years.

Nice try. An “infallible king”? Where is that in Catholic teaching? He is actually the Servant of the Servants of God. I think you underestimate yourself. You are actually very good at mental gymnastics. You have the ability to recreate Catholicism into something that it isn’t and then proceed to tear it down. You have confirmation bias. Just try being fair and disagree if you wish to ACTUAL Catholic teaching.

As a cradle Protestant (but certainly moving towards Catholicism), I will say that the case for papacy looks stronger and stronger. When I first encountered the biblical grounding for the papacy I only heard of the "on this rock I'll build my church"-defense. At that time I was amazed how much the Catholics were able to build upon that tiny biblical foundation. Later, much, much, later it has started to dawn on me that Jesus first and foremost chooses people and he chooses them for the purpose of leading after he has gone. Nowhere does he say to the followers: "Make sure to take notes - it's important that we'll have the New Testament ready as soon as I am gone". He doesn't say anything about that - why? For the average Protestant that is a mystery, since Protestants rest upon "Scripture Alone". But, no, Jesus chooses people - and clearly those 12 above the 70 disciples. Of the 12 he chooses 3, and of those 3 he chooses 1. There is a lot of choosing! But it doesn't stop there - the hierarchal thinking is not a human invention. It's divine! The Son submits to the Father! So it has become impossible for me to think the church was something like a "commune" or a "consensus-based-church". The NT itself is a testimony to the importance of the Apostles - only those things that could be traced back to them was worth listening to. All in all, there can be no doubt Peter had a special position. It can be no doubt Jesus was much more interested in setting up leadership of the new church that making sure the gospels were written. This undermines the Protestant thinking so much it makes it untenable. Sola Scriptura has to go! Where should we go? Well, to the church Jesus started, to which Peter was given the keys. There could perhaps be a small argument to made over whether Peter actually went to Rome or not - that's the only loophole I can see at this point. I think you can meet your Protestant friends with confidence. But be gentle :)

Wow, it really is true that when a Protestant converts or is at least is close to converting, they are able to articulate the evidence of the Catholic faith better than a lot of cradle Catholics like me! @Rolando Velásquez I am not sure we can find any church without bad leaders. The catholic church had a lot of political power and would have attracted power-hungry people. Do you think there are churches that don't have this problem with bad leaders? Do you think Mike Winger's church would be without really bad leaders if they grew really big for 500 or 1000 years? I don't think so. Martin Luther and Calvin certainly weren't without serious flaws! Calvin directly went against Jesus on remarriage! Luther made sure the church and the state went into a complete union - nowhere in the world was there such a merge between secular and spiritual power as in Scandinavia. I have seen some of Mike Winger. He seems genuine but like many Protestants - too sure of his interpretations and he has a lack of knowledge of Catholicism (fed on myths like all Protestants). Trent did rebut a lot of his criticism. Overall Protestants should really stop harassing Catholics with all sorts of bad and uninformed arguments. Rather, we should listen carefully with an open mind with the goal to overcome the differences between us. Jesus wanted us to unite, and we must do so. To badmouth a Christian brother is to do the work of the Devil. Yes, we must condemn heresy, but only if that is 100% sure.
