What's even more impressive about this performance, it was the first time they played in Mexico City, and Mexico City is way higher than their hometown Monterrey, so they had to deal with the much thinner air. The guy was their manager Rudy, he does this not in every concert, sometimes his speech is played as a track.

The guy that comes out for the little speech is Rudy Joffroy. He is their manager and I believe he is playing a street preacher in this song. If they are not headlining they usually just use a backing track of him instead of having him come onstage.

After learning of Angelina Jordan in 2020, I started spending a lot of time on KZfaq and it wasn't long until I learned of The Warning and now they are my all time favorite band. I have videos on my channel for both shows I have had the pleasure of attending, at Jergels near Pittsburgh in May 2020 and Blossom Music Center near Cleveland in July 2020.

That was a surprisingly underwhelming response. I was actually pumped to see the clip you picked as it's been a favourite since the first time I saw it very early on. In particular Pau's vocal performance. The energy is so strong in this clip. I'm surprised their ages and/or the age of the clip itself didn't come up, as Ale is clearly punching above her weight here, and all of them are clearly quite young; or the fact that Dany is actually the main singer of the band. Both of these things would suggest that the band today has far greater potential and ability than they displayed in this song. Either way, it was a great choice of a video, and it was nice to see Joel react so positively to Pau's vocals at 4:40 - that's always been a standout moment for me. It's those little details - just a note held a little longer with some extra flourish - that always takes their songs to the next level. There is so much potential on display in this video.

My original comment here might come off a bit hostile, which was not at all my intention. Rather than describe his reaction as 'surprisingly underwhelming' I should have said 'surprisingly underwhelmed'. I really expected him to be more impressed and enthusiastic, is all. I always appreciate an honest reaction, rather than canned and forced positivity. And he wasn't negative, he simply wasn't blown away. Nothing wrong with that at all.

For what it was, coming into it blind, his response was reasonable. He had no understanding of the context, the ages of the band, or anything. As noted above, he said, "I'd go see them"... which is a pretty high complement for a band he'd never heard of.

This venue and this intro song was sort of the gold standard for what you could expect at a Warning concert, for a long time.😉 They've since outdone themselves again, with the live show at Teatro Metropolitan (also in Mexico City), but they nailed this show to a tee, even though they weren't used to playing at high altitude (7000+ ft. above sea level), which is a real chore, especially for singing! They pretty much covered their new album, at the time, Queen of the Murder Scene, plus some songs from previous works. Rudy Joffroy, their manager, plays the fire & brimstone preacher that makes an appearance in Dust to Dust, and they recorded that vocal and used it in subsequent performances in a backing track, so Rudy could concentrate on taking video and pictures, and keeping tabs on the sound. I like that Ryan caught the obvious right away about Pau's vocal performance while drumming (especially since they were all working against the effects of high altitude). You should maybe suggest that he check out her performance of Narcisista live at Foro Didi in Monterrey, MX. She's got some SERIOUS attitude in that one!😂

Hi, I just wanted to share some things with you about this performance. The man that performed that brief part in the song is their manager. This show was in 2018. The lead guitarist was 18. The drummer was 16, and the bass player was 13. Also, please watch them perform "Enter Sandman" on The Ellen DeGeneres show. I think they were 15, 13, and 10 for that performance. These girls are fantastic. They now have three albums which are all very, very good. Take Care, Ernest

Excellent video, I have always found it very interesting to know the point of view of people with knowledge and experience like Ryan. As others in this chat have reported, the Villarreal sisters were very young at the time; however, his musical abilities were already remarkable. Currently, those abilities are noticeably better. I would very much like The Warning to do a complete new presentation of "Queen of the Murder Scene" in the future, even polishing some points a bit. In my opinion, QODMS is a solid work, highly creative, and it deserves it.

Nice reaction guys and while Dust to Dust is awesome and they knock it out of the park and as great as TW was THEN, they are even better NOW. IMO, maybe the next time you introduce the band to someone, go with more current clips that are a better representation of them today. Of course there are those in TWA that insist you have to start at the very beginning and go through all the years before showing todays version of TW but I say NO, start from them today and then see how they got here. There's a few really good mini documentaries that illustrate that.

He was introducing the band yes i guess, his main focus was introducing a band with a singing drummer. D2D is the go to song that everyone uses to showcase Pau as a drummer/vocalist, there isn't another option as all other songs she sings while playing drums are good songs but not great first impressions songs. Narcisista is not a good first impression because it's in Spanish but it's the second go to song after the person has been warned.
@pissingelk

@@awadoma2702 I see your point but the new live Disciple video from the Teatro Metropolitan would work. While the lead vocals are split between Pau and Dany, Pau sings more of the lead lines. It's a super professional presentation and from August of 2022.

Amazing how great bands can just kind of pop out at you suddenly. I hadn't heard of Collective Soul until watching a music festival on pay TV (Woodstock '99?). And there they were - boom! - really good new band! It was KZfaq that introduced The Warning to me. I was at home in 2017, recovering from cancer surgery, and onto my screen pops young DPA - pow! - nailing The Pretender by Foo Fighters. (That MV totally warned me!) Nowadays, I can say The Warning is my favourite band out there! And I must say, seeing Collective Soul's drummer react to The Warning seemed fitting to me. They're two bands with songwriters who attended music schools. Which suggests to me that's one ingredient in their secret sauce.

Your buddy's reaction is like most I've encountered among older, experienced people in the music entertainment business, who are actually very conservative. My drummer friend has no particular enthusiasm for Pau's drumming. He does observe, "That's a Bonham thing", or "Neil Peart did that". For me, that means she has achieved a level of performance that few will ever reach. Perhaps he's waiting for her to become remarkable by developing something that nobody has ever done before. He also notes that she has technique problems that might injure her if not addressed. This comment is well-intended and shows respect. The only videos that I've shown such people that make any impression on them are the most up to date ones, where they see the complete package that is now The Warning. There are thousands of wannabe bands with ability and potential who are missing the piece of the puzzle that would push them up the ladder. In the case of The Warning, the Mexican writer's review of their Vampire show said that The Warning now present as an international band. It's my opinion that the older videos, although exciting to me, aren't the best examples of the band's work to show experienced people.
@justinatest9456
@justinatest9456 Жыл бұрын
Couple things - one, your comment about poor and potentially harmful technique is not one I've considered before. While I could certainly see some shoulder strain with Pau always swinging for the fences the way she does, she has also been professionally trained from day one, so hopefully that's not the case. Two - when it comes to your typical drummer, to my uninformed eyes Pau is easily top 10% in energy and enthusiasm back there, and I'll take that anyday over someone with great ability and technique. Personally I want my drummer to lay the beat down with conviction, rather than tippy tap all over the song like a happy puppy. Three - she and the rest of the band are clearly very young here. And it doesn't matter which clip you choose or how young they were, right from day one Pau has shown an ability far, far beyond her age. I may not know anything about drums, but Pau is the first drummer to stand out to me since Dave Grohl, more than 30 years ago. Lol, God I sound ignorant.
@rexwave4624
@rexwave4624 Жыл бұрын
@@justinatest9456 to you points: One - Pau messed up her hip in soundcheck of one of the Halestorm shows. To me, she's a bit like a star athlete who works on refining technique for a long career because, at the critical moment, the athlete has to act without reservation or recovery position to win the event. My wife was such an athlete whose career ended when part of the area wasn't cleared properly by the person who was supposed to be grooming it. She hadn't been trained how to mitigate such an eventuality. Because she doesn't hold back, Pau needs reserves of technique for when she's tired or overextended. Two - In addition to such energy and enthusiasm, Pau's pocket is beyond top 10% in my opinion. Drummers like her are rare. Three - yes, Pau's natural abilities and feel were evident in the original ES video. Apparently, her drumming was what Kirk Hammett spotted right away. Cheers!
@justinatest9456
@justinatest9456 Жыл бұрын
@@rexwave4624 Lol I just had a look at these comments again, and it looks like I read the part where you said your drummer friend was not impressed by Pau, and I blacked out and typed my comment in a fit of rage. It never occurred to me that someone - especially a drummer - would not be blown away by Pau. But I suppose everyone has their opinion, and their own perspectives on what makes a band or musician noteable or special. I just wanted to address your main point from the first comment though, which is to agree with you that showing the earlier years of the band is not the best way to promote them these days. The girls always showed potential, and by this here video had demonstrated that that potential was being realized, to say the least. But I believe in putting your best foot forward first, and their last album and the live videos that it's yielded are their best work so far. As for your second comment, I can definitely see Pau ignoring good advice about proper technique in favour of giving it her all, and even after suffering an injury still playing through the pain, rather than holding back. She is young, and she is very driven, and we've all ignored good-intentioned advice in our day. She is also very intelligent I think, so hopefully she is learning to pace herself for the long haul. Cheers brother.

Neil Peart is someone Pau claims as an inspiration so being told that she does something like him probably would not upset her. As she has gotten older she does not flail like she did in her early teens. She is physically much stronger than in the earlier videos. Note that Pau claims to be 5 feet tall & has pretty much always played with a full size kit. Needless to say when she started playing she had to really swing to get the sound she wanted. She is a true dynamo but she has always worked very hard and has refined her skills to the point that while still being very entertaining to watch her control and accuracy is just getting better and better with less movement required for the sound she wants. Having seen some of her drum sticks after she has used them there is a really consistent wear pattern. She is placing her hits with considerable control but being very active behind the kit is part of her showmanship. She actually reminds me of Jukka Nevalainen from Nightwish in that both of them put on quite a show while drumming. Of course, he didn't sing while drumming so there is that also.

Has anyone noticed that Pau seems to be favoring her right leg when they finish their set and go to take a bow. Seems to me that she lifts her right foot to stand on her toes. Maybe it's something she has done forever but seems to me that it started 3/4 through their Mayday Tour. Are maybe I'm just being overly concerned about that technique question.

To really comprehend the musical masterpiece that QOTMS concept album really is, you need to listen to the songs in order. It tells the story of infatuation turned to obsession, stalking, murder, psychotic break, paranoia, and death. While each song can stand on its own, if listened to out of order, you only understand the full story when listened to from beginning to end. I look forward to seeing your reactions!👍♥️🤘
