What Does a Guardian ad Litem Look for in a Home Visit?

A home visit from a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is an extremely important event. It can have a huge impact on the outcome of your child custody case. The GAL is trained to look for several things. One of the most important issues is the safety of your children. They will be looking to see if you are a fit parent. They start by making sure that your home is a safe environment for your children. Is there food in the refrigerator? Are you in a safe neighborhood? Are there dangerous people around your children? These are just some of the many things a GAL will investigate.

Remember: Attorneys have one goal: to take as much money from you as possible. If you cannot work it out with your spouse, then expect to lose everything to attorneys.

I thought you meant what guardians do when they meet their long term clients at home or meet the boss of the group home in an office an hour away from the clients home when they’re trying to estimate health care saving measures and assets and new credits against equities

Hi, I’m fighting for custody for my child and the ad litem will be at my house on the 1st Of February. But it happens the mother doesn’t want to give the address and is in the news paper. What happens if the litem doesn’t check the dependents house or have contact. Or doesn’t show up to the hearing?

The mother does not want to give her address to the GAL? If so, that will look very bad for her. It will seem to the GAL that she is hiding something. That will certainly be something you're lawyer will want to bring up at the hearing.

I had a guardian ad litem that got out of a bench brief because she didn’t want to report on jurisdiction on Native American land. I had two others that agreed with me but she was the only one who didn’t agree. I lost my child over being Native American so he can meet his family. She was the most disgusting, giving his lawyer free meetings, dinners.

Hello, My fiancé and I are fighting for custody for our daughter from his mother and her wife. I am woundering how are we supposed to know when will they call us and would the judge see our house and his family house and go with his family for them to have our child without the judge never hearing our side of the story? Can that be allowed even though the judge only see one side if the story and the judge haven't seen my fiancé done anything worng from his family allegations against us?

Thanking you for asking. Has a Guardian ad Litem been appointed in your case? If so, they will contact you to schedule a home visit. They will visit the other home as well and speak to people familiar with your situation. If they do their job properly, both sides will be heard.
