I hope Marc Foster's Thomas Movie is something a audience can enjoy and doesn't just lean into "oooh the trains look creepy oooh"

When i was in the cinema whenever mattel was on the screen i would scream "WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY BOY TOM?" and everybody but my grandma was confused

If Mattel is really doing their own cinematic universe, it could make the movie end up with the same fate as Magic Railroad and even end the show. It seems like Mattel wants the show to be more energetic and family friendly to follow in the footsteps of the currently popular kids shows rather than do anything special and if the movie is treated the same way it could give the wrong impression of what the series was all about. I’m really hoping the movie is rated PG instead of PG-13 so that the movie can be enjoyed by all ages as the show and the books were, without being too childish or too far from what it’s supposed to be.

I hope this will be like the Mario movie in the sense that it brings a new age for the brand. Please make this a reality Mattel.

I certainly want too see this Thomas movie one day, no matter how long it takes. I just hope it doesn’t make the same mistakes as Magic Railroad made…

Here's how a Thomas movie would play out in my mind: During WW2, a boy washes up on Sodor and comes to know Thomas and his friends, and through his interactions with them, they all learn that being useful isn't just doing what you were designed to do, but just making other people happy, and just wanting to live with purpose in their lives. And Thomas's origins will be directly inspired by his actual origins: As the creation of a daddy trying to entertain his sick son. The dialogue would include this exchange as well: Thomas: So...am I in fact human? Sir Toham Hatt: Thomas, you're always wanting to be useful. What's more human than that?

With Marc Foster saying how much he’s pleased with Working on the movie and the show was an childhood favorite of his, The Thomas the Tank Engine Movie may be in good hands.

At least from what I heard Thomas and Barney are both in production so chances are we will get Thomas by the 80th anniversary.

I’m really glad people are finally getting it out that the reason we haven’t gotten news of the Thomas movie is because it’s part of a lineup of movie projects, with Barbie being the pilot. I watched the Barbie movie recently, I gotta say it handled almost everything brilliantly, even if I’m not a fan of the franchise I still got things to say about it. That gives me hope of this movie’s world building and tone, as-well as how high the bar will be for it to reach. Also, I believe the cinematic universe idea is only a rumour, at-least for now, but that would make sense for why there are over 40 movies of their toy brands. Edit: I am wrong.

I’m scared and excited at the same time. On one hand, I’m happy the Thomas movie is in development, but I’m scared that they’re gonna base it off of what Thomas currently is😰

I'd like to be optimistic for Marc Forster's Thomas movie But I feel like the Barbie movie is only doing so well because Barbie is a doll yes, but she is still humanoid so it's easier to suspend your disbelief when the character is put in scenarios with adults jokes and themes. The general public are "In on the joke" that barbie is primarily for kids so seeing the more grown up aspects of it is part of the humour. Thomas & Friends is harder to market for all ages because the franchise has been marketed as a baby show for so long, that's just become the norm of how the casual audience views it. Of course the Thomas film is made for kids, they're the target demographic, but it'll be much harder to get grown ups invested with writing deeper themes into the story. Without them going "Look kids it's Thomas the train" and seeing it as nothing more than the show where choo choo trains can talk. Am I happy we're getting a Thomas movie in the first place? Absolutely! All I hope for is the best for a franchise that is near and dear to my heart.

A live action should be about the railway close to bankruptcy cause of all the accidents, and it should be a more darker and mature tone

One thing's for sure is that Thomas & Friends: The Movie will be the first ever feature film to sweep in $1 Thomzillion at the global box office.

A Mattel Cinematic Universe makes me sick. The only way I could compare this to is the fan fictions where authors combine two totally unrelated topics. For example, ttte and my little pony (sorry to anyone who enjoys that kinda stuff). The only way I could see this working is if Thomas was paired up with Tugs.

If I was making the Thomas movie I'd probably be sitting around the early days of Thomas's creation like you know the war not the 3 railway engines

If the movie does turn out to be based off the original series, I hope the lore won't alienate the audience. I've seen many fan projects that make sense to a fan, but would make no sense to the average person. I hope the movie can still use the classic lore of the series without confusing people who aren't used to the series.

I think it is possible to have a Thomas movie aimed for order audiences is a good idea. I think the movie could be a success with good writing and directing and you would have to find the right voice actors to do it. If I was the showrunner of a revied Thomas and Friends series, I would make sure the classic series is cannon including the movie as well.

I miss Tesla US :( But seriously great to have you back man! Excellent video, Barbie has proven Mattel can take risks whilst having a lot of fun. I’d like them to try something different with their Thomas movie. It would be an interesting outcome if they do aim towards an older demographic.

I think the main struggle with a new Thomas movie, as I said in my own video, "Can an Animated Train be a Movie Star" is how far can you go with the character. (or any other train properties) Thomas has basically done everything possible as a locomotive. I'd say the Marc Foster plot would be similar to "Christopher Robin" or what TATMR had been, too much focus on the Human characters and not enough with the trains. But, as I said in my own video, I want to be proven wrong.

Thomas being tied in to any of the other Mattel properties in a Cinematic Universe is already a red flag for me that this would do poorly. It needs to be it's own seperate thing something that can have a more adult tone sure but doesn't stir away to what Thomas is and stays true to what we all grew up watching with the Classic Model Series and reading the Railway series books. I hope it is as successful as Barbie if not even more successful. Praying it's a Thomas film everybody can enjoy, the show badly needs a revival and it's main stream popularity back like it had 20 years ago where it was everywhere. If they base it of the rubbish it is currently and put it in some cinematic universe it is gonna flop horribly and there will never be no redeeming Thomas at all from that point. As you may as well retire the brand altogether. I'm intrigued on how it turns out i just seriously hope it's the turn around the brand badly needs and not more bad things from Mattel that we have been getting for a long time now.

Thanks to the writers and actors guild strike, we can expect projects like the Thomas and Barney movie come out sometime in 2025 rather than 2024. Also like you, I believe that Mattel’s properties shouldn’t be connected by a cinematic universe like the MCU, DCEU, Harry Potter etc. these movies should its own stand alone project. All things considered, it’s good news that Barbie is doing sensationally well at the box office for Mattel’s profits.

I just saw the Barbie movie on streaming service and I was totally surprised and delighted by what I saw, but I'm not gonna go into full detail of it as I'm sure many other people (even those in the Thomas community) have many other things to say about said-film. To me, it was both humorous and tearjerking (mainly the ending scene). I give this film a 7/10. I'm not the biggest fan of said-franchise either, but this film is the easiest watchable film to come by. I'm not surprised that the way Barbie was grossing a lot of money at its opening week in cinemas, perhaps it could lead Mattel on the next step with Marc Forster to begin their next project on Thomas the Tank Engine. Even so, a teaser trailer is the only way to prove that it is still in the works. One thing I cannot believe my ears is the mention of Thomas in one blooper of the Barbie film, aside from the team of Mattel making a big appearance in the film.

I know there's been some controversy about the Barbie movie, some say it's too political while others say it's not political enough, I haven't seen the Barbie movie and I have no interest in watching in personally. Like many of us here, I grew up with the classic era of the series and it's part of why I still love trains as an adult now. The classic era were the years where the show was still under the production of the original Britt Allcroft team (seasons 1-7) and the only way to watch it was on VHS tapes. The classic seasons did everything right in terms of bringing Thomas to a screen. The models and practical effects, the facial expressions, the sets of beautiful countryside scenery or grimy goods yards, the music including the theme song that everyone recognizes, all of these sorts of things when combined with Wilbert Awdry's kind of writing ties together wonderfully. This might be a hot take but among all of the stuff going on the world, I don't want them to make Thomas super adult and edgy, or to make it another All Engines Go for babies, I don't want politicized undertones and social commentary, I just want original Thomas as he ought to be. Part of it is escapism for somebody who enjoys steam engines. You can just phase out from the stresses of the real world for a while and just soak in this world. Maybe these are unrealistic expectations on my part but these are the sorts of things that made those early seasons work so well and it's why we're all here talking about this. I hope Foster can make something that doesn't just honor what came before but can continue it as well.

I would Imagine A New Thomas Animated Show faithful to the stories similar to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, after All Engines Go and the Marc Forster Movie.

If they are going to be doing a Marc Forster Thomas movie, I have a few thoughts. They'll probably show Thomas's origins, like where he was built, before he moved to Sodor. Or maybe showing some references from the Railway Series, like the first few books (besides The Three Railway Engines and Thomas the Tank Engine because those were already adapted in 2015's The Adventure Begins, and "Terence the Tractor/Thomas, Terence and the Snow" was already referenced in a Season 21 episode). I would also like see some of the old forgotten characters in the movie make an appearance like BoCo, if Mattel decides to listen that is... which I doubt. I still have hopes for the upcoming film soon to release in the future.

My sisters were Barbie fans when they were little, and I hope they don’t cancel Marc’s Thomas film.

While I am excited for a potential new Thomas film, I'm also intrigued at the idea of a new Hot Wheels and UNO film. Very interested to see what comes of all of this.

Im really hoping they do something like the cancelled WW2 Movie, not with the war but just slightly adult themed. And on source material, i do believe Acceleracers might be used for the Hot Wheels movie.

Crap, they’re going the cinematic universe route? That all but solidifies that all of these movies will be under the universal laws that were in Barbie, which means Sodor, and all its engines, are toys come to life. Ugh, why can’t we just have a good Thomas movie? Seriously, the blueprint is right there! Just adapt Enterprising Engines (the book) and have a Thomas plot of him trying to keep his branch line open and Sodor in tact. An ensemble “save the railway” plot through proof of character, reliability, and usefulness. Maybe someone is trying to take the Fat Controller’s place and the engines are doing their best to raise the funds to keep Sodor thriving. You can base the plot in the real life history of Dieselization and the Beaching Axe and have it parallel the concept of going against the grain and Small Business vs Big Corporation, with a sub plot of don’t judge someone by their looks (Bear). The story writes itself it’s so pathetically obvious

I’ve had a video on this subject written and filmed for almost a week now and you basically covered everything better than I could. Well done! I hope that the Thomas movie goes for a more classic feel and skews a little older. I also hope the term “cinematic universe” is just a strategically used phrase to make headlines and that the movies are all separate entities tied together by the umbrella label of Mattel.

Personally, after watching this video, I've gotten more faith in Marc Forster as I know what kind of director he is. As for Mattel's cinematic universe, I don't think Thomas should be a part of it unless Mattel has learned from their mistakes. mainly because all it takes is one movie to flop, and then the cinematic universe is ruined, which has happened to both Transformers and Spider-Man. So, I'm really excited for Marc Forster's Thomas movie, but I'm not really sure about Mattel's Cinematic Universe.

My biggest concern is that with this new Thomas movie being made by Mattel is that they'll probably try to restructure it to replicate what they did with "Barbie", due to it's success, when that 's not how Thomas works!

I'll be honest, Thomas deserves it's own Cinematic universe. It doesn't need to connect to other things like Uno or Barbie. Thomas's world has so much lore it could fill its own universe just fine. The hard thing would be to know when to stop making movies.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to put Thomas in the same cinematic universe has something like Barney. Thomas it’s meant to be an extremely grounded series with the only fantastical element explicitly showcase is that the trains can talk (sure, there are some super natural elements of Thomas, but magic is not nearly as showcase Thomas as it is in Barney.) simply put, the two series have two very different approaches to have their worlds work. The only way I could see this working out would be if it’s in the films were handled it like a bedtime story, by having a parent open up a book to read to their child with transitions into the film. But if you do that, it’s pretty much says to the audience “what you’re about to see doesn’t matter.”

Hopefully Ringo Starr is in this, ya know just cause

Knowing Mattel, they'd likely get celebrity voices for the characters, so my dream cast for the Thomas movie would be: - Tom Holland as Thomas - Karen Gillan as Emily - Roman Griffin Davis as Percy - Jim Broadbent as Edward - Latitia Wright as Nia - Asa Butterfield as Henry - Robert Pattinson as James - Jodie Whittaker as Rebecca - Daniel Craig as Toby - Hugh Laurie as Gordon - Andy Serkis as Diesel - Idris Elba as Arry and Bert - Alex Kingston as Mavis - Vanessa Hudgens as Rosie Just for some examples of the characters I believe they'd include. Though ideally, I'd want them to bring back the cast of the original series.

If they are going to do a full on movie, i just hope it would be a MUCH better version than TATMR, as in, it should 100% be made with models, just like the show originally was. A full on live action movie with real trains wouldn't work imo. They should have it be more focused on the actual trains this time around as well, since, that's like, the whole point of Thomas in general. And who knows? If it succeeds, we could see a return to the original show all together. No more CGI, no more bad plots, just a full on new generation of Thomas seasons just like the old show was like. Maybe I'm hoping for too much here, but seeing a return to form when it comes to Thomas would be a dream come true. I genuinely miss it in my life.

I feel optimistic about the movie. I personally think it comes down to story in the movie. I also think the engines should have some screen time in the movie. But just vibes from the director I can see this movie being a run of the mill PG/PG-13 movie where the human characters are the focus. Again story is key, it should have to do something that involves the engines

If the LIVE AXTIOn thomas movie will be like that from TATMR movie, everybody will leave the theater and only 1 person will stay! But if its better (FOR SOME) in that style, maybe it gets people attracted!

The only way you can possibly do stuff with multiple universes is if you brought back shining time stations I never seen anything Barbie and only some Barney but you could make the argument the school is on a field trip and one of the locations is shining time and with a younger barbie you could get away with that and maybe uno is a game they play anyways that’s a hypothetical way they can pull it off make Thomas it’s own thing and have shining time be a way to mention Sodor by using a relative of mr conductor or maybe have a older lily take over for Stacy jones

I’m Kinda Scared That Mattel Is Producing A Thomas & Friends Movie Coming But After Watching A Man Called Otto & Christopher Robbin, I Actually Am Not Giving My Hopes For Another Chance of A Live Action Movie & Hope That Some Kind of Trilogy of Live Action Films Is Produced Being Based & Inspired By The Railway Series.

I hope they revive the live action Thomas film theat got scraped because I was exited to see Thomas be depicted in such a real manner

Part of me did want to see the Barbie movie, especially because of the Pregnant Midge cameo, but I have a really strong vendetta against Mattel right now because of the many ways they've horribly mistreated Thomas since late 2017, including: 1. Pulling the TV show from PBS, where not once, but twice it had a comfortable home. (Yes, I'm counting Shining Time Station, the spin-off that introduced North American audiences to Thomas. 2. Decreasing the quality of Thomas' merchandise lines, most especially when the inferior Thomas Wood line replaced Thomas Wooden Railway from late 2017 to mid-2021. 3. Pulling Edward and Henry, two characters who have been with the franchise since the beginning, from the Steam Team in favor of Nia and Rebecca. 4. Making DVD releases more scarce. 5. The All Engines Go! spin-off, which proved what the Rev. W. Awdry said about Americans vulgarizing and ruining Thomas true. 6. Disassociating themselves from the Autism community, the very community that watches Thomas' show and buys his merchandise. 7. Disrespecting Britt Allcroft's wishes to keep the spirit of the classic series alive by blocking uploads of Classic Thomas and Shining Time Station episodes from KZfaq. 8. Not releasing any new models for the Thomas Wooden Railway line outside of the Day Out With Thomas model in 2023 (if it were up to me, I'd have had new models of Duck, Donald, Douglas, Oliver, and Toad released months ago). At this point, I feel that Thomas' days with Mattel are numbered and his quality can only improve if another company acquires the rights, namely Orbrium, one of the leading wooden train systems I jumped ship to since Thomas Wood replaced Thomas Wooden Railway. Not only does Orbrium make their products specifically with Thomas Wooden Railway in mind, but they released several promising new products this year; a track maintenance crew (which I did a Wooden Railway discussion on), train sets involving a medieval castle and a national park with a spiral mountain, and new unpainted engines for the fans to customize as they please.

Well only time can tell whether we get a movie or nothing 🙁

I hope this movie gets a 12A/PG-13 rating, as it would show what the Thomas franchise could do. As Mattel does understand adult fans of Barbie and Hot Wheels, as they make collectors' items for adult fans, but not for Thomas, because Mattel and most outsiders view Thomas as only for preschoolers. The people working on the movie could also misunderstand the Thomas franchise though, like they could treat Thomas like he's a toy rather than a real tank engine. Mattel should really get a British studio to help co-produce the movie and visit Heritage railways in Britain to get inspiration. I hope the movie won't be a movie just for preschoolers though.

I think you hit a point MANY aren't talking about, and that is the brand itself needs to be performing well for them to even get a studio & retailers for merch. involved, and if we're putting the strikes aside, I don't see this movie happening unless it makes significant money, but even I feel that won't happen. Mattel's financials last year show a whopping 22% decrease in sales, and that stores weren't ordering any replacement stock cause they couldn't get the stock they ordered sold. Heck, you walk into Target, and the 3 singular pegs & 2 singular shelf spots Thomas takes is just full of stuff not moving, whereas most of the Bluey selection is wiped. Not to mention that they don't have anything planned beyond 2024. They have more planned for Barney's return then anything Thomas. "But Barbie did well! Its happening!" Yeah, Barbie did well because its Barbie. Its has GENERATIONS of fans, young & old. Thomas does as well, but not to that level. So as for the brand itself, they could sell it for nothing, or just shelf it.🤷‍♂️ But yeah, I don't see this movie happening at all.

Uhmm... good question, if they really want to make a good live action Thomas movie I'd say to look at magic railroad... not as a good example, hell no, but as what not to do. There's still a very strong community of Thomas fans out there, especially adult fans, and they have many in-depth reviews of TMR and it's down falls. To me I would avoid the use of models at all cost, the change between model and live action really killed the immersion of TMR, though with cg now, they probably wouldn't use any props like that anyways, maybe a live action butyral of the RWS stories, like the adventure begins, would work if they wanted a family friendly movie, but kind of a waste if you ask me. Maybe if they reused the idea that was originally proposed, or something similar, but something tells me they wouldn't do that. it's hard to come up with new ideas for Thomas, ha, I guess that little blue engine really has done it all.
