I’m a Toyota guy, but dude - you did a great job at tastefully modding this JKU. It needs a winch IMO especially because you can get a synthetic one for like $400 but There isn’t a single tacky mod on your jeep and those stock wheels keep the look very clean.

singletrackftw what is a "tacky" mod?
@singletrackftw
@singletrackftw 6 жыл бұрын
Colby Butler ever seen a “riced out” Honda? Tacky mods are often appliqué pieces that serve no function other than to add aesthetic value in a way that could be viewed as tacky. He doesn’t have any weird headlight covers to make it look like the Jeep is “mean”. He doesn’t have any visual mods that are “stick-on” and non-functional. He doesn’t have any wheels that I would say look tacky (most wheels sold from tire shops are gross and tacky IMO, with fake headlocks, rockstar patterns and all these jagged edge spokes and color matched accents).
@singletrackftw
@singletrackftw 6 жыл бұрын
Colby Butler his Jeep has a very “strictly business” look, especially with those stock wheels. His Jeep says “hey, everything I’ve done to this thing serves a great purpose and it is now more capable than ever”. Aside from his front stinger bar, it’s almost like he has an “OEM+” look going on. Basically, OEM but on steroids.

While you are at it, better add some extra gear/accessories for that winch. tow strap, ratchet straps, rope, gloves, Snatch block (is a life saver)...I have had the misfortune of "christening" mine on the trail and I was glad I planned ahead. get at least a 9k winch . I have a 12, but a 9 or 10 will do fine. Synthetic vs Metal...you decide. I personally like synthetic. Lighter, less wear, no rust, less danger of removing your limbs if it snaps.

To save some time... 1100 for the lift, 280 for shocks, drag link flip kit 300, (optional tie rod 300), c-gussets 350, wheel spacers 200, 37 inch tires 1500..... sooo $3730 to 4030

Thanks, was trying to hop around where he said anything about regear or chromoly Axles, but I guess not. Not saying you need those but some people’s opinions of how much insurance you should have and how hard you want to wheel it is different than others.

I would be more worried about stock drive shafts, hub drive gears and ring/pinion gears before I worried about chrome shafts.

a c I suppose you could worry about R&P but there’s not much you can do besides regear if you stay with Dana 44 size. 3.23 or 5.38 are still dana 44 R&P’s. Don’t think regearing affects being prone to failure.

I heard three things that are actually relevant to running 37's and that was the C-Gussets, HD tie rod, and tire carrier. No mention of 1350 driveshafts or at least 1310's, no axle sleeving, no chromoly axles, no big brake kit, no trussing. Mistitled video.

Wheels, tires, lift, re-gearing, 8k to do it right with my plans. Which is also why my Jeep is stock for now because I can’t see myself investing that kind of money in a vehicle with so many known issues. They are a blast, but they aren’t great enough to dump money into for me. Great video and wish all Jeep owners the best.

Some questions, if I may. 1) What primitive/unimproved roads did you attempt unsuccessfully in the Rubicon when it was stock but that you have been able to traverse with the 37s and other mods you mentioned? 2) What modifications have you done to compensate for changes in driveline angles caused by the lift? How much sooner will your U-joints need to be replaced if you haven’t compensated (or don’t compensate) for those driveline angle changes? 3) Did you check what the fuel mileage of the stock Rubicon was with YOU driving it? Did you replace the speedometer gear to compensate for the change in tire size? If so, how much did the tires themselves plus the difference in ride height change your fuel mileage? Thanks for the info about underbody armor. Good looking tires, BTW.

Roger Metzger was able to do moderate trails in CO such as slaughterhouse gulch and Illinois gulch/mini Moab. With this set up I can do a lot harder trails in moab (going back this week), Saran Wrap, eagle rock, chinamans gulch in co were done with ease. Haven't changed driveshafts yet and I have 1 year and almost 20k miles on my set up. These will be ordered soon though. Gas mileage varies from 11-14

Good video. Great rig. It's always good to know what people has on their rig, but I'm just curious about one thing... Why would you go all the way up to 37x13.5 tires but keep the stock rims. I usually see those on 9", but seen them on 10" inch rims as well, the stock rim is like 7" wide. Was it a temp/budgetary decision, or are you sticking with those for the long haul? Jeep on, Brother. PS I Love free mods too. I've trimmed my own fenders and front bumper (to make it a stubby). Maybe some day I get off my ass and make a video about those.

What did it cost? Answer: MORE GAS. Only thing I would recommend (not that you need me too) is maybe get a mid or long arm kit for the rear and move that axle back a few inches and then get rid of those stock drive shafts (get 1310 or 1350) and re-gear to 4:88 or 5:13). Unless I missed you mentioning you already did? Anyway. Nice jeep. I love my 2012 JKU Rubicon too. Keep it up.

You should look to see if you can center that rear axle in the wheel well, find a good mechanic for some recommendations. I just had some MetalCloak DB3 Rear Control Arm correction brackets installed, may not work with your setup.

Brett Stevens same for me. Unfortunately I don't have my jeep anymore, but I ran 37's on a two door JK on stock gears for almost 10 years. I never had any problems wheeling it, or on the road. The last year before I sold it I had done 5:38's, and didn't have any problems with those either.

Mods necessary to run 37s and the first one is soft top mod 🤣😂🤦‍♂️. Realistically you only need the lift kit, the shocks, the air craft aluminum bar, fender delete, the welded pieces and preferably a decent rim with negative camber to avoid spacers. Oh and big @$$ tires of course. But ideally you'll also need a wheel speed sensor to match your new tires. And new axels to match your ideal engine rotation from manufacturer with that of your wheels. Don't wanna blow your engine. Not a bad build thou. The under carriage armor is a nice touch. Everything else is personal preference thou, not needed for 37s

Hey man quick question. I’m about to trade in my 2001 Jeep Wrangler on 33’s, I never re-geared because it felt fine. But the Jeep im trading it in for is a 2009 rubicon that’s sitting on 35’s, would you recommend re-gearing or wait a while?
