We Mexican Americans are literally just Americans of Mexican descent. Just like Irish Americans, African Americans, Italian Americans, etc. We keep certain cultural traditions (while adding our own twists here and there) but nonetheless we are American just of a different background. Mexicans don't see us as authentic Mexicans deeming us white washed. Meanwhile in the states many (Anglo) Americans still see us as foreigners. The struggle.

Emanuel I know man but those are race obsessed identitarian snow flakes we've endured far worse and have always landed on top.. they're upset that we are growing rapidly ; it's our job to hold the white mans hand and ease them in and assure them nothing bad is going to happen.. lol.. they don't realise we love U.S customs and culture.

"Mexican"' can be a culture, ethnicity, or Nationality. Mexicans are "Mestizos" which mean mixed race., we aren't one pure race. This isn't that difficult to understand.

If you say Mexican American it means you need to decide if your American or Mexican. When you can't even commit enough loyalty to be an American alone than don't be surprised when Americans don't seem to want you around. You have to pick and if you can't, don't be surprised when Trump stats president next election.

@@catraz.7521 you can't be both. That's not how Patriotism works, you sound like a typical wannabe invader, If you have no desire to be an American you do not belong in America. People like you are the reason America is starting deportations. No loyalty , no use for you. It makes no sense to be proud of ethnicity, you didn't achieve an ethnicity you were born with it. An American nationality is something to be proud of, you pay taxes and support the country, you physically involve with your country. Ethnicity you can't choose, nationality you can. Therefore anyone who is proud of something they didn't choose nor earn nor contribute to is laughable. If you can't see the difference your an idiot. Mexicans who are proud of their ethnicity something they didn't achieve but rather were born with is laughable. Your citizenship is something you contribute to throughout your life by taxes, voting, etc and is something to be proud of.if you cannot tell the difference, your obviously too stupid to even worth anything to a country

@@robode1945 ok dude calm down. Mexican american is just slang for someone with a enthencity background of indengionus/spanish background who were born in the U.S. I can kinda see your reply however. You cant really be proud of being born a race. Its like you didn't achieve it. I see that. Of course the real definition being you have citizenship of both countries. What im kinda trying to compare is that african-american amd mexican-american are similiar. African is not a race but "black" is as well as mexico is not a race but (im not sure on this one) hispanic is. I hope we can peacefully end this argument either respecting eachothers ideas, mindset, opinions and statements or simply agree to disagree peacefully move on with our different opinions with either one or the other being right or the other wrong in our eyes.👍Have a good night sir

thank you. I hate this Mexican-American stereotyping in America because not all Mexican-Americans are the same. People forget that Mexico is also diverse, therefore a lot of Mexican-Americans are diverse. Apparently I do not fit the Mexican-American stereotype because I don't talk Spanish with the other Spanish speakers in a room full of non Spanish speakers, and I don't listen to corridos, and because I don't "act" like one, but they will point out I look Mexican. I can speak, read, and write Spanish, but I don't speak it when other non Spanish speakers are around because it is rude. I eat Mexican food, and I celebrate both the catholic and most Mexican holidays...so it pisses me off when people tell me I don't act Mexican enough. Mexican's are normal people, I don't think I need to point out that I am Mexican every 5 seconds (because that is what everyone else does...)

I’m Mexican-American, and I can assure it’s almost a unique problem for Mexican-Americans to be rejected by both cultures. On the one hand we have other Americans who reject us because of the high immigration of Mexicans into the U.S. and somehow blame all of us for that - despite the fact that history teaches you that we’ve been here just as long and we’re actually allowed by the U.S. government at the time to stay after the U.S. acquired CA, TX, NM, and AZ. Then we have the Mexicans who reject us which doesn’t occur as much in other cultures; for instance, I’ve been learning Portuguese for about a year so I’ve met countless Brazilians and I’ve asked (most of) them what they consider children born to Brazilian parents outside of Brazil and pretty much all have said “they’re still Brazilian”. And I think that applies to most other countries except Mexico which is hugely patriotic and see us as white-washed and our parents as traitors to Mexico because some of ours immigrated to the States. It sucks because I can attest that we embrace both sides of our identities and are embraced by neither. We gotta stand together, y’all.

Only Americans that have Mexican descend is a Mexican American There's Mexican-Americans that can trace their roots to California and Texas before they became part of the United States, and then there's Mexican Americans such as myself that were born in a family of immigrants. Then there's Mexican-Americans living in the Mid West and the East Coast or places that never were part of Mexico. Begin Mexican American means that your are an American with Mexican roots, it mean that you celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year with pozole and tamales. It means that you are bilingual, it means that you either look like a Mexican and act like an American or even act as a Mexican. Also not all of us have the same values, some conservative and other are liberals. Just like a Irish American with Irish roots, the only difference with us is that our skin color, surnames, traditions, culture and physical appearance is not "American" enough so we have to use the "Mexican","Latino" or "Hispanic" label, but that would be different if we had blue eyes and blonde hair, otherwise why is it uncommon to hear someone identify as German American or Italian American?

So when other people of mexican descent ask me "Are u mexican?" i always say "No im American" they usually get mad and say "no youre mexican!" and i say "well i was born here in the U.S how am i not american?" why does that make people so mad?😑

Being Mexican american means that no one really diggs you and our are your own. I am Mexican. And even Mexican don't like me cause I know English and I speak Spanish with a accent. I came back to mexico after living all my childhood in the states.. I came here and I know they don't like me. And there are many more like me here in my city and we just kick it with each other.. We chill with other Mexicans that know English but they had never lived in the states. We think differently.. And well the issue is more with the older folks here in mexico they call you "Pocho" which I personally don't like. And they think that you think your better than them which I believe is not but they think that just cause u speak a language you grew up with.. It really sucks to be a americanized Mexican in mexico. Well at least in my experience I don't know about others but I have ran into issues with other people around my age because I am more used to speaking and thinking in a language different to them. But a Mexican one that was born in mexico living in the states will never think of themselves as a American or Chicano or any of that. I am proud to be Mexican but I was taken to the states at a young age and now I am stuck in the middle of not knowing really what to accept.. If a mother who I was never with(Mexico) who's trying to gain my love or a step mother who always showed me love and showed me how to be a man.(U.S.)

What? Maybe they rather stay and fight in their country for a better future? The answer is not always packing up and going and living like you're in prison. Most Mexicans know the realities of what goes on in the lives of immigrants while in the USA so they rather stay and try to better themselves and the country as a whole. I know sometimes people are forced out because of Cartels and such, which are different situations, but others have been conned to go to the USA so they can also suffer. As for the word "Pocho", so Mexico discriminates as well? Have you seen how they treat their immigrants from south of the Mexican border? Surprise surprise! You should probably learn Spanish and bring with you the best that you acquired in the USA and use it in Mexico to your benefit and the benefit of your new community. I know there's a "Little L.A." very near Monumento de la Revolucion in Mexico City and my God, you see them hanging there, the deportees, and they seriously look like they're about to mug you and beat you. I suggest not bringing that type of image to Mexico. And life will be smoother in the long run. But learn Spanish, or Mexicans will not treat you as an equal (and especially if you're a dark skinned mestizo, afro-Mexican or full blooded indigenous) because they're gonna treat you even lower, because: surprise surprise, Mexico is a very racist country that they try to cover up by saying that they're "classist" which is code for the darker and more "indio" you are, the lesser you are. Especially in places like Mexico City, western and northern Mexico...well, all over to be honest. But again, learn Spanish.

I can enjoy both worlds..unfortunately people have made it hard for me to do so. I have received bullying and racism from every race I have come across. I will always be seen as an outcast..my Mexican family thinks I’m a snob because I have a different lifestyle and non-hispanic acquaintances think I eat Tacos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner..I get dirty looks because I’m clearly Hispanic, without getting to know me personally. The frustrating part about being Mexican-American is that the immigrant aspect gets highlighted too much. The identity is not Mexican it is Mexican-American. No other ethnicity is treated like people of Mexican descent. The Irish, Polish, Italian have all moved away from their immigrant past but Mexican-Americans can never escape it. I believe this video did exactly what the narrative has been for a long time in that it didn't focus on the "American" people of Mexican descent who have been in the U.S. for multiple generations. They don't know have any immigrant family members, don't speak with accents, don't travel to Mexico to visit family, etc. At this point they are as American as apple pie. Benjamin as the one gentleman said people of Mexican/Spanish descent have been in the U.S. longer than the founding of the United States. So all people of Mexican ancestry are not immigrants. You take someone like actress Eva Longoria who is a 9th generation American/Texan/Mexican-American/Spanish-American. Her family was here long before George Washington lived in Mount Vernon. What videos like this do is perpetuate a myth that somehow all "Mexicans" are immigrants. That's bullshit!! Mexican Americans will never be accepted or treated as full "Americans" because this type of crap keeps going on. The media, hollywood, politics, education is all swayed by this myth which is not true. STOP DISTORTING OUR TRUE STORY SO THAT WE CAN PROGRESS AS A PEOPLE IN THE GENERAL AMERICAN MAINSTREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the video it gave me an opportunity to vent my frustration!!

I've always said it. Love being Mexican American. Love speaking both languages because that way i don't need cable. If nothing is on local English channels i switch to the Spanish channels and vice versa same for the radio when in the car and yes i have antenna tv and i don't care because it gives me like 30 English channels and five Spanish channels

It's funny how people tell Mexicans they aren't Americans even though Mexico is in North America. And they aren't even Americans them selves. Your ancestors came here.

The man Jim Price seems ignorant. He says he finds the word “Chicano” as offensive but doesn’t know what that means. How can he be offended without knowing what it means. The Chicano civil rights movement helped us in so many ways. My mom was attending Belmont High School in Los Angeles during the walk-outs and none of the Chicano movements actions were in vain. Perhaps he can take a Chicano History class. My mom is American of Mexican descent, as was my grandfather and great-grandfather. That side of the family is traced all the way back to Texas before it was part of the USA. My father was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico & emigrated to California at 18 to study here. He eventually settled here & met my mom & married her. I am blessed to have the best of both worlds. I could be wrong, but I am under the assumption that Mr. Price in this video is mixed with Anglo descent and perhaps has had a little white privilege in his life. My children are bi-racial and their father is Irish/German but you ask them what ethnicity they are and will be quick to say Mexican and American as they were raised with my cultura. As for Mr. Price mentioning Mexicans applying for AHCCCS healthcare (Arizona’s state-funded Medicaid healthcare) and living in Mexico. Well unfortunately there are some people that commit fraud. One of the requirements is that they are US citizens or US residents living in the state of Arizona. I was an eligibility worker for social services I. California for 7 years in addition to a couple of years in Arizona. I saw some cases of this type of fraud and although I didn’t see it often, it does happen. It can be reported to the state anonymously. I am very proud to be an American and thankful to God for my Mexican roots. I love and keep in touch with my paternal side living in Mexico and am proud of my Tejano roots (as grandpa used to say). Blessed to be born with the best of both worlds, thankful to be educated in knowing those roots and the importance of the Chicano movement. If anyone wants to learn a thing or two, I recommend a book written by Dr. Rudy Acuña titled Occupied America. Education is key mi gente! Much love and respect to my raza. ✊

...My grandma fled Mexico in 1915 at age 15 after her family lost their land in the 1910-1920 Mexican Revolution. They fled for their lives. My Grandma met my Grandpa in the United States. My Grandfather was a WW1 Veteran. My father and mother were both born in the United States. My father was a WW2 Veteran. I was born and raised in the US. My Grandpa never let us grand-children talk about Mexico or visit Mexico because he knew my Grandma's heart was broken when she lost her brother and family's land in the Revolution as young girl. Now that I am much older I plan to visit. I doubt my family can reclaim the land of my great-grandparents. That's ok because we already carved out a life in the US for three generations. Wars are terrible and their victims pay a terrible price. I concluded I am a human of the human race.

What it means to me to be Mexican i love being Mexican. Being born in states doesn't mean that culture is gone, we have the people, our togetherness especially when it comes to family, our food but I mean authentic food that can take hours or days to make..not fast food chains that say its mexian, our golden skin people envy to have. I'm going to change it up with one of my biggest issue is to say you dont like or date your own kind to me this is a serious lack of self worth, Maybe its not them its you. how could you say that about our people we beautiful in and out, just like every other culture...
