What does it mean to live in habitual sin? If 1 John says that if we practice sin we are deceived, well then what does it mean to practice sin?

The truth is, if you repent from your sins and put your faith in what Christ (Acts 20:21) has done you will be saved, you will gain eternal life which is knowing Christ (John 17:3) If you do not do this you will perish. If you do truly come to Christ you will be changed, you will love the Lord, and hate the sin you used to love.

The struggle is real. When I came to Christ I was a lust for idolatrous adulterer at heart and I almost cheated on my own wife physically. I was addicted to porn, I was talking to hookers in text, I was sexting old high school girlfriends. I was in my mind the worst sinner on the planet. Day one of justification, obsession with sex vanished and with it went out the door my habitual behaviors with texting hookers and old girlfriends and obsession with porn. What remained was addiction. Thankfully in matthew Jesus spells out how to deal with addiction. I had to cut out my own eyes so to speak by removing access on all devices from things like pornography. The battle today is in my mind. 35 years of imagery that only the power of God can Someday defeat. Yes I still fall. But before Christ and now it is a drastic difference. My old life created such a friction with my wife that I almost lost her. I treated my children with horrible unregenerative behavioral distain. Something they didn’t deserve. As a true believer in Christ I have a hunger and thirst for scripture and prayer and learning and eating up as much as I can of Jesus and God. I am almost jaded because the gospels are not long enough. Sin feels awful. But it’s a lot less than it used to be. I’ll never be free of this addiction in this life but I refuse to give up. I refuse to turn away from my savior. Call that what you will, maybe to some people that’s not a saved person. I dunno. If God doesn’t work man’s life that transforms him in this way and he’s not saved, that’s just really sad.

Your testimony is very similar to mine. Porn had such a grip on me and I was messaging other women behind my wife's back. I almost lost my marriage over it. I always told myself that someday I would get over it but it never happened with my own strength. It wasn't until I understood just how far away I was from God and was finally willing to repent that God saved me, and it happened instantly. I have never been the same

John 6:39 Context 36But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. 37All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. 38For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 41The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. 42And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?

Please pray for me. I deliberately rejected Christ for so long, almost a year. I was a professing Christian for about 1 year, and I walked away with the intention to get saved later, and to just enjoy sin for a little while. I was an apostate and now I am scared that with the amount of light i have been given I might commit the unforgivable sin. My issue is that I don't want to surrender my sin. I know I can't do it without God but I dont want God. I wish I wanted God, but I'm not sure if that feeling is genuine or not. I still love sin and I wish I didnt love my sin, I'm not sure if this feeling is sincere or genuine. I've been praying for God to make me hate my sin, but I'm not sure if those prayers are sincere or genuine. Please pray that my desire for salvation becomes genuine and sincere and that I get saved.

How comes you want to give up on your sin and seek God? You claim to love sin and still want God over sin. Thats like saying you hate your spouse and still want to do what your spouse loves and be together with your spouse. You cant tell me you love sin while telling me you want to hate it, it cant be. 1 John 1:9 is clear, you are forgiven and cleansed when you confess so based on what you tell me (Ive been like this) you are a backslidden Christian who didnt Repent and is now lukewarm and gets closer and closer to worldliness. The thing is, God feels compassion for you, go through His word, grow love for Him and if you love your sin which again I dont understand, please understand: 1. How much God did for you; 2. Why you should love Him; 3. God is Great (its that simple); 4. Sin wants the worst for you and if sin was painful would we really sin, NO; 5. If the devil works so hard and even wants you to believe that you blasphemed the Holy Spirit (which you didnt, because thats claiming that Jesus is demonic while being 100% aware that what you say is false, its rejecting and claiming the work of the Holy Spirit is demonic with all your heart, soul, mind and strength) then he is scared of you, he would rather have you fighting with yourself instead of fighting with him, get up and make him flee as it is written in James 4:7. So thats it and again about the BHS (unforgivable sin) you cant commit it if you lack knowledge. Lets say I believe Jesus is 99% a worker of evil and He does everything not by Spirit but by the power of satan. Its not counting because I lack 1% of knowledge, it must be 100% and then you cant be renewed, you are fallen.

But what if I am saved, I’m sure of it because the day I repented truly I felt my sins get pulled off me and then I asked god shortly after that I asked god for the Holy Spirit. I felt his presence enter me. And I had everything going right and then after two weeks. I had a dream of me looking at porn and ofc I woke up in a panic that I had looked at it and I checked my phone that’s how real the dream was. And the. After that I was fine Untill I watched a video that most likely the devil no the devil did plant a thought of decite that I could struggle with it and keep asking god for forgiveness and ever since that night I have struggled with it for a month on and off. The past few days I have had it beat. I’ve come to god and agreed with him it was bad and have asked forgiveness. I know I am in a spiritual warfare. The last time it happened I didn’t feel a grive of the Holy Spirit and it scared the living crap outta me. I understand and have said to god I understand my transgression and iniquity. Also asking forgiveness. I have a desire to be holy BECUASE it kills me that I’ve been doing it. 😭 I’m scared and feel unsaved. Even though Jesus said and I believe that the Holy Spirit is in me because it kills me so.

Ignore the stupid profile picture and name, just call me "James". I was saved at the age of 12, back then I knew nothing of the sins that I know of now. At the age of 18 I went out of my way to discover pornography, I remember the first time I saw it, what I saw struck me as wrong. I knew that what I was seeing was wrong... but I kept going back to it, there was an allure to it and over time I sank deeper into it, it had hooked me and reeled me in and I didn't even know it. Pornography has taken me deep into places that I never imagined I would go, it poisoned my mind in such a way that my thoughts about even simple innocent things is now perverted, all of this happened to me after I had already been saved. There was not a moment in the slow descent down into sexual perversion that I did not know in my heart that what I was subjecting myself to was wrong and sinful, although at eighteen I didn't yet fully understand how horrific what I was doing was, I knew the Lord but I did not really know or understand what exactly the bible said about sex and sins related to sex. I was raised in a Christian house, we didn't talk about sex in my house, I initially sought out pornography so that I could understand what sex and pornography looked like, so that I could see for myself what all the fuss was about and in doing so I walked right into what I would call one of satan's "roach motels". I believe the reason that I have gone through the battles that I have gone through in my life so far is because of the things that I willfully subjected myself to, knowing in my heart that they were wrong. I am 26 years old now and even though my desire for sin still exists there is an ever increasing desire in me to deny those sinful things and flee from that perversion because I know and believe what the bible says about sin. I do not want to displease my Lord, not only for fear of chastisement but because I genuinely do have a love for Him, I long to please the Lord, I am ashamed of the things that I have done in His sight, I am ashamed that I let my pride and the desires of my flesh get a hold of me and drag me down into such filthy depths of perversion. On occasions the Lord has taken away my peace, he has taken away my assurance, he has made me to be afraid and I am thankful to him that he has done these things to me. Even though these times were greatly distressing I am thankful to Him for having let me experience these things, I am thankful to the Lord that I have not been able to find lastling comfort in sin, I am at a point now where the Lord is working great repentance in me, there is a strong desire in me to flee from anything that might stir up the desires of my flesh, I know my flesh, I know how the temptations work, I have a fear of being pulled back into the deep dark pit that I once ventured into. May God continue to give me a fear of that sin so that I would not fall into it again and may he continue to forgive me for all of the times that I have given in to those desires and may he also continue to restore unto me the Joy of His salvation. "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin."- Romans 7: 18-25

As God speaks to us our new hearts respond to his voice, the flesh does not respond but continues to desire what is contrary. So we can't change our flesh even though our hearts have changed BUT! We have freedom in Christ to not live according to the desires of our flesh but to live according to what the Holy Spirit says - praise God.

@disciplesofthecross I'm very happy that you are back in fellowship with our Father but if you read Romans 8:12-17 that will help also. We CANNOT continue in sin after we are saved. Will we be perfect? No! But we have to grow and if we fall we have to repent and come back to Him but if we just go and live a life of sin we will not see Him. We can agree to disagree, so God Bless you and take care.

Regeneration is what it's all about, Yes - for the glory of God. It's important to know what flesh is, and what it isn't. Our hearts in Christ are regenerate - but our flesh is dead (crucified) in Christ. So our heart can now connect with God but our flesh cannot connect with God. The Holy spirit is at work in us and cannot fail, our flesh is mortal and will only fail given a chance.

He also said on that day He will have to turn away a lot of folks who thought they were saved. Revelations first 3 chapters is a must read for people who think you can backslide or get saved once and do what they want. Read what He says to the churches before you comment again.

@disciplesofthecross I understand that it didn't take anything we did to get salvation that it is from God through Jesus. Ephesians cha 5 tells us how to be Holy and how to act. Read James cha 2:14-26. Why would Jesus do what He did if we could live anyway we wanted? Why would 1John cha 2 tell us to confess our sins if we could do as we please, James 5:16 confess your sins one to another. We cannot keep on sinning and expect to see God, its not easy but we have to rely on Him and be right.

@disciplesofthecross if you read your Bible and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance you will get the answer to that question. The way I read it, it is clear that you will follow God and not the sinful nature, if you do that then you are a child of God. If you ignore God and follow the sinful nature you are following you true father and master, and it will lead you straight to hell. These are not my words but Jesus' argue with Him.

God is Immortal and gave angels(demons) the cloak of immortality and yet in the presence of God they sinned. but us(man) have death to await us for we are but dust. so God has the most absolute mercy on us by just us repenting our ways and then leaving our sins behind.(NEVER) committing them again

@disciplesofthecross That is a false statement. A true born again Christian does not have the desire to sin. Jesus did not preach this. There is no such thing as a true Christian who lives in sin. MOST Christians will go to hell, thats what the bible teaches. (Matt 7:13) Those who have God's spirit working in them will turn from sin and their lives will produce fruits. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit. You are hurting God's kingdom. Repent!

No you got it dead wrong. Breaking the law is a crime on different levels such as a capital crime or misdemeaners. "Sin" on the other hand is not breaking any laws. It is a superstitious term used for the purpose of degrading people, humiliating their humanity as a disgusting tool for brainwashing gullible, ignorant people like you to follow a belief system that is intellectually bankrupt. In short, I am a human being and proud of it. I don't need your imaginary Jebbuz.
