We use radiated and conducted EMP testing to fully simulate the effects of an EMP on light bulbs, LED flashlights, Ham Radios, Drones, and home phone. Are faraday cages and bags enough to protect these appliances?
Visit www.SolArk.us/ to learn more about EMP and the Sol-Ark Solar Generator.

What was the power level of the EMP? There would be variations in the EMP levels. Also it would be nice to know if the EMP fries electronics hat are turned off? Could a Generator be effected by an EMP whether it is on or off?
@Sol-Ark
@Sol-Ark 5 жыл бұрын
The EMP test levels of the Sol-Ark 8K testing by a 3rd party lab was 100kV to 130kV (limit of their test equipment). They have to use the lowest levels for reports. For your other questions, please keep the generator turned off and not connected to long wires. Same goes with appliances. With our system, we provide EMP suppressors for powered appliances on the 8K system.

Ok but without the grid would these things someone saved in a faraday box even be useful? Serious question

Depends on the radius of the ElectroMagneticPulse. A EMP uses a overwhelmingly high Electromagnetic wave that propagates through space and once it gets to a device, the Electromagnetic Wave when received by the device generates a very high current that the circuit device cannot handle and thus it stops working. Kind of like blowing a fuse in a device only a EMP is much more efficient at ruining other components in the device too like transistors or diodes which is how almost any modern electronic device functions now n days. Now, with that in mind, EM waves will ALWAYS lose energy, even in space because it is traveling through a lossy medium aka conducting medium. This causes what we call attenuation in the EM Wave, and is dependent on the conductivity of the medium, and the electric and magnetic permeability of the medium and the angular frequency of the EM Wave. So the radius of the EMP will vary, and may not reach an entire power grid or only part of it. So I guess what i’m saying is, maybe? 😂 Another thing is that i’m not sure about the amount of energy to generate a EMP, because we do it every day with Antennas, but the energy in those EM Waves are much much lower. In order to create a EM Wave strong enough to cover the entire US, well I don’t know if it’s possible, easily atleast. Let’s say it did cover all of our power grid. Then anything powered by the power lines or is unprotected from EMP’s is garbage. Radios however, are powered by a battery and as long as the radio you have, and the station you are communicating to was protected, then it should still work. (I don’t fully know the function of radio, I believe they work independent of cell towers, and just need a receiving radio somewhere else to work, however the distance you’d be able to communicate is far less. Cell phones make use of cellular towers to transfer the EM Waves farther distances). One more thing is that the military has these huge cases they put all communication devices in. The cases are meant to be very high conductive materials because the more conductive the material (the case) is, the more it will protect the devices from outside electromagnetic waves.

Nothing is certain without testing. My best guess: Computer unlikely to live, laptop very good chance (except for power supply plugged into the grid - have a spare), un-connected hard drive will live.

Do you sell a nanosecond protection to put before the electrical box in my home? Or any individual nanosecond protective blocks for inline connections?
@Sol-Ark
@Sol-Ark 6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no. What good are the appliances without a continuous power source? Likewise, what good is a stored away solar system when all appliances plugged in get fried. That's why we took a system level approach to protect both our system and as much as possible, your appliances. You need both.

Can you guys make a unit that protects peoples houses that are not on solar ? would be awesome and im sure you would sell many at a good decent price, that would protect peoples computers like myself. I have a full fledge recording studio with top gear items for professional recording and a AVID S9 mixing console along with a Euphonix Studio MC5 console not to mention 3 main computers. one of them is a big gaming computer and the 2 others and for the studio. not to mention racks of outboard gear. I need protection because all that gear is plugged in. Would be nice if you guys made a box that can be placed before the electrical box. If an EMP happens, well you know what will happen... :/

I believe its against the federal law. by what I was told you can go to prison for 25 years for even possessing one , you need a license and you also need to inform the government you have one. your picture will be taken along with finger prints before they hand you a license and most of all, you have to be a reputable company to have a license. with everything thats happening in this day in age, last thing government needs is civilians with EMP rig.

Protecting small devices, or large for that matter, is great but if an EMP takes down the entire electric grid what is going to be on the other side transmitting electricity to the light bulb or radio or the gas station or the water department or anything else for that matter? EMP proof a generator, it needs gas to run...where does that come from? I do not think the big rigs that deliver food, fuel and all other products are going to run on solar power. I am not trying to knock the product you are demonstrating...I am just trying to get the bulk of our population to WAKE UP to the fact we are all very vulnerable to EMP's and CME's.

One step further, so no matter how well prepared/equipped the average person is, if BIG BROTHER GOVERNMENT does not pull its head out of the sand and do something about hardening our power grid, we are still pretty much fried and our goose is cooked. Even the hard core off-grid people rely on something that needs today's technology to produce and distribute....like AAA batteries for head lights as seen on some TV shows filmed in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It would be a very rude awakening for this country to suddenly be placed back into the (literally) "dark ages". I recall vividly the "Great Blackout of 2011" involving parts of AZ, Tijuana, San Diego county, parts of Orange county, etc. and it was supposedly because a maintenance person did something incorrectly in AZ and the cascade put millions of people in the dark, trapped in elevators, trapped in traffic jams (no signal lights), out of gas, out of food, out of cash...out of everything most people take for granted. We have Smart phones, Smart TV's, Smart refrigerators...everything "Smart" except those that should be doing the biggest preparations like hardening the power grid!

This is the exact reason why Ham operators dont use Motorola hahahaa. You guys need to test -- 1. - Quandheng 2m/70cm HT radios both DMR and non DMR 2. - Baofeng HT radios both DMR and non DMR. 3. - KX3 mobile 4. - ICOM IC-7300 Base station 5. - HAM antennas of all kinds like 2m 6m 70cm and many others. 6. - Radioddity x Baofeng RD-5R DMR HT radio (its the newest on the market). 7. - Yaesu radios in HT, mobile and base stations. Also - Try testing Repeater equipment such as the Yaesu newest Repeater 4U rack unit. Called Yaesu System Fusion Repeater. and the DR-2X Repeater. these are important when disasters happen as Ham operators depend on these repeaters to help emergency services and hospitals. cheers 73 :D
