I know you don't show pain much, but it really is eye opening to see the recordings of you at the time describing the pain. That's such a vulnerable moment you let us see, and that takes a while other level of strength! You impress me everyday! And I'm sure you'll appreciate knowing that you pulled my heart strings on that one 😉 (seeing your kids with the music and the story you told was beautiful). Not to mention I had to laugh every time it cut to you with the melting ice cream! You strike a perfect balance!

That ice cream melted in record time! And whatever that purple ice cream was didn't taste very good. It occurred to me that since I'm usually upbeat, there's value in seeing the contrasting hard moments.. . even if my pain scale needs some serious recalibration.

@@StephaninasAmputeeAdventures Ha, your pain scale definitely needs some recalibration! It's a pity the purple ice cream wasn't good. It was certainly brightly colored enough to attract attention though.

I actually chucked the purple ice cream afterwards because it didn't taste good. And the "strawberry" was actually watermelon with chocolate chips. Also not tasty and also chucked after the video.

I’m a BK amputee. They left my nerve blockers in for a few days. I felt little pain. When they took them out, in a few hours I experienced the worst pain I have ever experienced. I was literally seeing colors as they came in waves. Fortunately a nurse was passing by and heard me, and came back with morphine. I am six months along now and I still experience a lot of phantom pain and I always feel the foot. I’m on Gabapentin still but not painkillers.

I'm so sorry (and surprised) you had to experience so much pain after the amputation. I never talked about this with other amputees. I guess I just assumed that everybody more or less experienced something similar to what I had to go through. And I was extremely 'lucky' in that respect. The pain before the amputation was unbearable. And I was affraid the amputation itself would be very painful (right after surgery), but it wasn't. The nerve blocks worked really well. I didn't feel any pain at all. Then I was affraid for the moment they would remove the nerve blocks, but nothing changed. I'm lucky to say I never felt pain again. Except that one time after 5 days when I had a severe case of phantom pain. It sustained for hours and it drove me mad. I decided to sit on the edge of my bed and I started to wiggle my amputated leg. It helped, the pain went away. I never had physical pain again. Every once in a while I feel some stings or shocks, or something like a burning sensation in my phantom leg, but it's gone as soon as I feel it. Hell, this was 8 years ago and I never even felt sick since then. I hate to say I'm lucky, because I did lose my leg. And I loved my leg. I miss it. I miss it a lot. But the mental pain for me is the only pain I feel, so maybe this makes me the lucky one. I'm sorry for me babbling for so long. I don't get to talk to fellow amputees so often. Have you been looking for this handbike-wheelchair combination already? 😊

I love hearing the experiences of other amputees. Thank you for sharing! When I was facing amputation, I wished there were more people sharing their experiences online. It can be lonely when your life is different from the people around you, and it always cheers me up to hear from other amputees. I'm so glad that the medical side went well. In the U.S. there's a long lasting nerve block, but a lot of hospitals won't let doctors use it. Very frustrating! I sympathize with you about the mental side. I miss my leg. Turns out that feet are incredible and even with modern technology we can't make something as good as what we were born with. Phantom pain was awful at first! Thankfully it's much better now. I can vaguely feel my toes but I'm not getting as many shocks as I used to. I was checking ads in our local newspaper for a hand bike wheelchair and saw something called a row cycle. It's so much fun! You row it like a boat and steer it by leaning to either side.the seat is connected to the front wheel, which is how the steering works. So no hand cycle for me yet, but in the meantime I'm having fun rowing.

That's a lot of amputations! That's got to be miserable going through it repeatedly. How is it on stubbies? They seem like a nice option to have in the bilateral "toolbelt," so to speak.

Another great video. So for me the post op pain was less than my bad foot was as well. I did get spikes of pain while I was still in the hospital. And I always have phantom sensation it feels like my foot is still there all the time. sometimes it eels like my toes are being crushed in to small of A shoe. I only seem to get real phantom pain at night after A long day in the socket. when it happens it feels like my original injury. I just thank my lucky stars that I don't have real problems with phantom pain. It seems like our Hospital stays were pretty close to the same. I have to say the first 2 months I took all my pain meds. The irst time ever that I finished them. thank you for another super good video. It got me thinking about just how far I have come in the last ten months. I was in A walking boot for close to two years it really slowed me down. Now with my trusty prosthetic that I'm doing almost every thing that I was doing before. Amputation turned out to be A way bigger deal than I thought It was A long road from surgery to getting fit for my prosthetic. any how thank you so much for your hard work here Stay strong.

Sounds like we're a lot alike. I usually don't finish pain meds either, and it was about the eight week mark that things started to feel better. Phantom pain is bizarre. It's always worse at night, even on days when I don't wear my leg. I wonder why. I think looking back helps me appreciate what I've already overcome, otherwise it's easy to lose perspective. It's definitely a hard road to travel, but it always perks me up hearing from other amputees because we have a basis of understanding that most other people can't imagine. So thank you for sharing your experience and cheering me on!

I had A similar experience with the pain scale until a nurse told me that discomfort and real pain is different. She said you don't have to be A tough guy around here. I did have A pretty good experience after my amputation. One Strang thing was for A few months while laying down it felt like my missing parts where up in the air. I guess because they weren't touching the bed.

That happens to you too?! When I'm lying down, I can never tell whether my "short leg" is touching the bed. It isn't just me! 🤣 Glad that you're legit tough AND had a good experience (relative to the subject matter).

@@StephaninasAmputeeAdventures there are some days that I don't feel tough at all. Some days I don't feel much like adapting. I have tried to grow my foot back it just won't happen 🤣🤣 I was At A wedding yesterday one of my aunts took off with my leg to the dance floor. Later I found myself dancing to foot loose 🤣. I really had to be aware of where my foot is down there. I have met A few other amputees around here who said the same thing about there missing limb floating above there bed. There is so much to get used to.

When Grandad’s first leg was amputated above the knee, it would spasm and stand straight up. He said that hurt a lot. I hope your pain isn’t too bad anymore.

It's definitely better than before. In the early days, once I realized that muscle spasms were causing a lot of the pain, I asked for a muscle relaxant and it made a big difference.
