ANSWER: Tachiagari refers to a section of the trunk that is between the ichinoeda ( first branch ) and the nebari. The reason a tachiagari is important is because it is one of the hardest things to fix if it is not worked during the trees younger years, The tachiagari can give the tree its direction and set the trees design as either harmonious or tension depending on what way the trunk moves first and what way the sachieda ( directional branch ) moves. The tachiagari can also determine what style a tree will need to be if it has already been set before you purchase the tree, so knowing your basic design guidelines really helps a lot when working with semi mature stock.

The zone between first branch and nebari. Does it count if the first branch is dead or a jin?

I'm incorrect. Darn it

Another cheat for me, but I am glad to know the term for the trunk! I had never even considered it would have a name, bt of course it does!

Tachiagari isn't the trunk itself but rather a specific portion of the trunk. The portion is the space between the ichinoeda ( first branch ) and the Nebari.

@@BonsaiEn Yes, I didn't clarify that, did I? I love that there are so many terms for such specific aspects of a tree and English just doesn't do them justice!

I feel like I'm cheating as I only asked you this a few weeks ago.. Is it the dead branching above the canopy.
@BonsaiEn6 ай бұрын
That would be a Tenjin.

Silly me, I'll get there Josh. If it ends in ari it relates to the lower parts of trees and if jin is in name it's the branch or top. Can we rename it topjin for dumb Aussies.
