What Does This Historic Broken Old Abandoned Railroad Crossing Look Like Now ? You will see a picture from 2007 with a broken signal on this crossing and what it looks like in 2019. This was a former FEC crossing, Florida East Coast Railway , on a branch line that connected to the main parallel to US1 several miles South and eventually went into the Florida Keys as the Overseas Railroad. North it went around Miami international airport into the Hialeah yard. It appears one side of this crossing had a gate, but I find it weird that both did not.

It's like history has been erased. We're seeing too much of this. Years from now young people won't have any idea how much the railroads contributed to the transportation of passengers and freight. Thanks for another great video.

So sad to see the history of these old lines slipping away like that. Great video Roly! As hard as it is to see this stuff slowly disappearing it's good that you still go back and do a checkup on it and keep what small remanence remain alive for as long as possible!

That must've been amazing to catch a train in where ever a person lives and of course make connections and cross the Florida Keys and be in Key West via train. I know it's gone and has been since 1935. Some where the PC game railroad tycoon relives the image of a steam locomotive being partially buried in beach sand after a hurricane blew through. We rarely see hurricanes in Tennessee. Usually they're either a tropical storm or depression. If the Mississippi River delta ever sinks like the say it will if the polar regions melt. If this occurs then crossing the Mississippi River will become a bay and that will mean hurricanes will be able to stay over warm water longer. We'd be screwed.

Hopefully you guys will never have to experience a hurricane up there. Are there a lot of abandoned rails in TN? I went to Gatlinburg once and loved it. I wouldn't mind going back sometime! Please keep the views and comments coming along!

People are always assuming they can go closer to railroads ROWs. At least the US has railbanking laws so those people might get a surprise one day in the future. :) In the last several years, some people did that to an active VIA Rail line in Windsor, Ontario. One day they all received notice that they had only a short time to remove their sheds and other items back to the property line or a big excavator would remove all of it for them.

Awesome video I love that south Florida cotton puffy cloud scene. It's funny you mention the homeowners moving their fence out onto railroad property. I'm guessing that they are hoping to get that piece of land from the railroad. They're probably thinking that by squatters rights after so many years the property becomes theirs. If the FEC has abandoned it and isn't moving back anytime soon. Say that the statute of limitations is 7 years the railroad could wait until the 6 years 11 months and replace the line leaving those people out of the loop. They would have to tear down the fence but, after 7 years the homeowners could claim it. I could be completely wrong too and all that is B.S.
