Please keep the Holdens coming. I am watching from the United States. I want to see more Caprice/Statesman/Grange and Calais. I also would like to see more Ford LTD and Fairlane. I do appreciate the special models you share.

Love the clip, both cars awesome, the aero rims are directional, are on the wrong side, they are designed to draw air in to cool the brakes

Yes, grp a has directional wheels to draw air into brakes for cooling. And that does look weird when they have a right side rim on the left side of the car.

Without driving these two cars, i can still say having a supercharger is the win... its extra displacement a big cam doesnt do anything for 90% of the normal driving we do at all a big cam moves the power curve to the higher RPM and end of the curve which is useless really... a supercharger takes that 6 liter and makes it feel like a 7 litre and you have instant torque low down and midrange being pure linear its always the winner its performance and drivability and way more enjoyable

Lost count how many LS engines are cammed and theres a reason why Supercharged holden or ford,now thats a hard one to pick,like them both,nice review,keep up the good work

Fairly sure HDT do a custom grind cam in their builds, nothing like the lumpy stick in the blue one though. As an investment I'd choose the genuine HDT, for a daily I'd go for the blue meanie rep every time purely because lump is life and any power not getting to the road is a waste.

Here in Germany you can nearly only get turbocharged cars. No more supercharged cars - only on cars from the usa (Dodge,...) you get a supercharger. I still own a complete tuned and supercharged JCW MINI R53 from 2004. My car has 257 hp + a weight of about 1120 kg (weight reduced). It is so much fun with the supercharged (throttle response, high rpm,....). Two amazing cars here in your review, but I would go with the supercharged one :) Best regards Chris 👍

@@Internetbutthurt Thanks for your comment and a happy new year !!! Compared to all the newer cars my JCW MINI is a lightweight. The differences is amazing in acceleration, braking, corner speed and so on. I can feel, that my car weights between 250 and up to over 500 kilograms less then nearly ever new car. I will never sell this car !!! It is to much fun for me to drive

I think both cars are top notch. Like you I think the blue meanie is a better looking car and from what I could hear in the video sounded better. However the HDT looks like something Mad Max would drive and that crazy power plant engineered by HDT along with its rare status takes the cake for me.

Yeah, that supercharged HDT is just crying out for AWD; if you could put all that extra power down to the road via all four wheels then that thing would be an absolute weapon, both in a straight line and around the corners. I drive a bone-stock VN Caprice II with the 6.2L LS3 and even that big, long heavy limo boat tends to light up the rear tyres just way too easily when you feed it the onions (even with T/C on).

Hundred percent not surprised - Manual supercharged cars feel fast but are actually terrible off the line. Sure they are nicer to drive and have torque once you have traction. But below 100 km/h (on street tyres) cammed NA allows traction and top end = quicker. Both still slower than a stock Hyundai I30N (5.3secs). (I’m not a Hyundai or FWD fan - just mentioning for context from a 2023 performance perspective)

@@Simeon301091 that’s why I don’t carry a stop watch with me and an official in white coat and clip board- so I can’t be accused of. Conducting speed trials. Indeed hooning (a very broad definition with different interpretations by different people), can incur warnings, fines or removal of licence. That’s why logically passenger cars with more than 90kw and more than 4cyl aren’t sold in Australia…..

@@Simeon301091 my car is neither a four cylinder or a hatch. - and agree that 0-100 isn’t the only performance metric. It’s probably the most relevant in Australia for a performance street car (not a track car). Doing 0-100 in 3.2secs reliably and consistently, is cool, but being able to pull ahead of supercharged V8’s when they have traction is even more fun. If you can run 10’s on a street surface on everyday street tyres and have a decent sounding car that’s comfortable and practical - that’s my version of a performance car. But agree - Everyone has different priorities.

as a previous owner of multiple supercharged HSV vf's you need to get hold of a Camaro ZL1. After owning one of them them for a year I tried to go back to a worked VF GTS and was highly disappointed. It Ruined Commodores forever. the LT4 driveline with Manual is lightyears ahead. you wont regret it. Its a real shame there nothing in Oz is offering this package. the only V8 left is the new Mustang unfortunately.

I used to get 5.2 seconds to 100kmh in my VE Ute with only 260rwkw on back roads like this and with a 245mm factory rear tyre. Less power is more sometimes.

Great review. The Holdens aren't dead yet. Love HDT's. One criticism with your Australian driver references Allan Moffat only drove Fords ( maybe a Garth Tander local boy or Greg Murphy who drove holdens his entire career) and maybe stick to drivers who are alive, love your passion for our country and our legends of the past. Otherwise great review man I saw the HDT on carsales pretty reasonable for a car of that calibre.

Don't know where you got Allan moffat only drove fords he raced for many cars brands over his career. Including at Bathurst for Mazda in a rx7 from 81 to 84 and with peter brock in a vk commodore . Go read his Wikipedia page.

I'm doing 1100 to 1300 whp depending on fuel used, hydraulic roller, flat tappet cams on the street are a plain pain in the butt. Superchargers are so controllable turbo's and huge cams just don't make sense on a daily.

You say the black hdt has too much power for the chassis? Same chassis as the vf(tweeked) . Maybe it was the suspension,as soon as I put some decent suspension on,it changed the whole drive of it,even the way it puts power down. Just food for thought

It boils down to what you can afford to repair! A NA V8 with a serious cam is never going to break. A charged V8 has so many other things that can go wrong. And when THEY go bust. You're looking at University fees to fix!

Its really not a question that needs answering... it's Supercharged everyday of the week... twice on Sundays. Just depends on what character you want your car... the cammed car having so much more character. You could just go cammed and supercharged and get both... :-)

You need to turn off traction control in these cars to get the best time out of them. It makes a huge difference at roll racing in my VF GTS. I make 175km/h across the line with traction control on and 205km/h with traction control off.
