According to Priscilla Presley, When The Beatles met Elvis Presley they sat two on his left and two at his side. They kept staring at Elvis because they were starstruck. Elvis got weirded out and told them "Hey guys, if all we're gonna do is sit here then I'm just gonna go to bed. You don't want to play music or something?" The Beatles sat up and were amazed that, that was even an option. They played music together. Later in the evening, John Lennon cornered Elvis Presley and asked him why he stopped doing live shows. This apparently struck Elvis' pride. Which prompted Elvis to later make his comeback with the 1968 comeback special. The Beatles worshipped Elvis.

I think he had a beef with Lennon because when the Beatles and Elvis met in 1965, Lennon supposedly told Elvis to “stop making those shitty movies and make music again” or something like “when are you going to stop making those shitty movies and start recording good music again?” . Something along those lines. Knowing Lennon’s articulate history, I wouldn’t put it past him. I can’t remember where I read about this exchange (I’ve read so much stuff about the Beatles), but this is what supposedly Lennon said to Elvis. I’m sure this stepped on Elvis’ toes, but it made him think because not too long after he did quit making those “shitty” movies and went back to recording better music and performing live.

'Hey Jude' was a studio recording by Elvis in '69. The others were live or jam recordings. On stage, Elvis would often introduce 'Yesterday' or 'Something' by saying: "From The Beatles songbook ..." Regardless of what they freely thought of each other individually, we do know that they admired each other musically.

According to Marty Lacker one of the Memphis Mafia ho was closest to Elvis, Elvis was only telling Nixon what he thought he wanted to hear so he could get the Federal narcotics badge from him. Elvis was into collecting police badges and the Federal Narc Badge was "The King" of all badges to Elvis. It would also allow him to carry a concealed firearm in all 50 states. According to Lacker, Elvis liked the Beatles and many of their songs but had a special affinity for McCartney's songs. He was never threatened by them and only used Nixon's hatred for them to get his coveted badge from him.

That’s definitely a clash between two eras right there. Songwriters and singers were two different entities in pretty much all pop music until the 60’s. So it must have been pretty jarring to see that happen. It was probably a coincidence that the songs Elvis chose from the Beatles catalog contained no Lennon songs. However, it was Lennon and his very vocal stance about Vietnam (not to mention his friendship with people like Bobby Seal of the Black Panthers and Abby Hoffman) that Nixon was concerned with. So much so that Nixon had the FBI keeping very close tabs on Lennon. It’s speculated that FBI even had Lennon’s phones tapped.

There was nothing remotely anti American about The Beatles. John Lennon was the most political member of the band and was pretty much an anti establishment figure, but his criticism was directed as much to his own Government as it was to the United States. I think Elvis felt threatened by The Beatles' popularity. That's probably what lay behind these comments.

Perhaps Elvis felt threatened musically by the Beatles. That's because the Beatles music was a lot different than Elvis music. The 60's were a time of change and attitudes in people were different. The Beatles music reflected all that. The Beatles had respect and great admiration for Elvis. What Elvis Presley didn't see that in a way he was responsible for all that. If there wasn't any Elvis than there wouldn't be any Beatles or Doors along with Hendrix and others. @@ashith1297 well most Christians were upset about the Beatles, and Elvis was very religious. Though I don’t believe Elvis said anything negative towards them publicly… he went to Nixon to get a DEA badge so that he could bring his guns and prescription medications to other countries in hopes of touring overseas and that’s all… nothing about the Beatles.

It's hard to say what he thought of them... Elvis especially when the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in America, he behaved like a gentleman and sent them a greeting card wishing them good luck (1964), he was jealous of their success and felt threatened by them, but the meeting that Parker organized by Colonel and Brian Epstein, he could not avoid it, so he assumed that they came to him as fans (1965). As Priscilla said in an interview, she was kind to them and they were kind to her. Elvis Comeback (1968), there he declared that he likes the band. When he went to see Nixon (1970), he told him that they were taking drugs, setting a bad example for young people and being anti-American. It should be known that Elvis always felt like a patriot, in contrast to Lennon, who was pacifist and anti-war. On the other hand, he played the songs Hey Jude, Yesterday and performed Something c in Hawaii (1973). song. What might be interesting, he asked Tom Jones if it was true that the Beatles had really broken up, to which Jones replied yes, to which Elvis would have been a shame if they were the backing band...but he was joking. It's hard to say what he would have really thought of them if he hadn't been jealous.
@elvisleeboy
@elvisleeboy Жыл бұрын
@@mariankalikalazi1417 If Elvis had feelings of jealousy, it is quite understandable, especially considering that while The Beatles were at their creative peak, he was stuck with making Harum Scarum and Clambake. Had he been able to maintain his success by continuing to make great records, his career could easily have run alongside theirs. Instead it was a case of him having to look on while they enjoyed creative freedom, while he was forced into doing things he did not want to. Colonel Parker did not give him a fighting chance of competing with them. People like Roy Orbison and Tom Jones were able to enjoy success during their pomp, so there is no reason Elvis could not have, and no one would have been more pleased to see Elvis releasing great music than The Beatles themselves.
