So, about Garling. I am a professional translator who is fluent in Japanese. I don't watch Ohara, so I don't have notes to compare, but here's the Japanese surrounding Garling's introduction: 裁いたのはかつてゴッド・バレーという土地で活躍した"王者"!! (At the pinnacle [sits] the former victorious "ruler" of the land known as God Valley!!) The word 王者 _very much_ implicates he was (past tense) the "ruler" of God Valley, while the かつて活躍した description _very much_ implicates he once was victorious _in some vague sense._ While there is room to breathe on what this could mean in the context of a fantasy world, the general assumption I'd make is that he _earned_ his place as "ruler" of God Valley and, at some point, lost that place to someone else in a duel or challenge of sorts, now residing as a powerful judicial figure instead. The use of " " quotation marks suggests the title of "ruler" is not necessarily a royal title, but one given to whomever earns it. Again, this is a fantasy world. Oda-sensei could have something up his sleeve beyond my scope of foresight. Translation always comes with the risk of getting lost in hindsight. However, I think this is the safe assumption to land on, and from a quick search, it seems to be the common assumption among the few Japanese fans I see discussing it.

In Finnish, the Five Elders are titled "Viisi Johtotähteä" which roughly translates to "The Five Leading Stars" so that's interesting

I feel like we should just have translated the elders as The Five Elder Celestials as they are at the top of the Celestial Dragons, and Celestial Bodys are something that describes both planets and stars much like the word used in japanese can describe both. Would probably be the least confusing name they could have.

Imu & Lili's dynamic might be the same as Orochi & Hiyori. Orochi thought Komurasaki was on his side but in reality she was a Kozuki. Imu thought Lili was on his side but in reality she was a D.

Knowing Oda, he will probably surprise us of Imu's appearance to be different than we expected.

5 elder stars actually works really well as the planets used to be referred to as stars in our own world

In the meeting room they are always hovering in their proper orbits around the table. Luffy's wanted poster being on the table where the sun would be is interesting considering Gear 5. Also it's interesting to me that the eight planets aren't all there... the ones that are missing are: Uranus, Neptune and Earth. We know that former planet Pluto(n), Uranus, and Poseidon are all named as ancient weapons. We learned that Shirahoshi is an ancient weapon... what if the Elder's are also ancient weapons (that it's their abilities)? That perhaps Nika is also another ancient weapon located in the Devil Fruits... and if that is the case what if Pluto(n) is a black-hole devil fruit that eats up suns? What if Blackbeard already has the Pluto(n) and Dragon already has Uranus which are Devil Fruit abilities akin to Luffy's? Along a tangent: Mother Frame is said to be like an ancient weapon by Ivankov; "Mother" Frame... "Mother" Earth... the final planet. So perhaps Mother Frame is also another God-Level Devil Fruit user? It'd then make sense that when studying ancient weapons and building his own... that the pacifistas were created by Vegapunk; the modern versions of the ancient weapons.

The word "desire" doesn't necessarily have to imply something romantic or sexual. It could, however, indicate strong emotion, such as rage, obsession and the desire to take revenge. Imu blamed Lili for scattering the poneglyphs and all that had resulted from the that. Throughout the centuries, he had nursed this rage. When he saw Vivi's picture, especially if she looked like Lili, followed by everything that happened with Cobra, then Lili escaping, only infuriated Imu more than ever. In fact, Imu was uncharacteristically emotional when he revealed himself to Cobra. It was the mention of Lili which drew Imu out into the light. Remember, Vivi had already been captured by CP-0. So Imu already planned on doing something to her, perhaps torturing and killing her in Lili's place. When Vivi fled, Imu became unhinged with rage. Perhaps, to take it further, this is why Imu wanted to test the wepon at that time. He had to kill someone, especially an entire island of someones. If read as "Mother Flame," there is a connection between Imu's anger at Lili, and the burning desire to kill and destroy. This fits with Imu's character. He is cold, calculating, aloof from the people of the world. But, his fatal flaw, this vengeful rage, is his only human emotion that remains.

You basically hit the nail on the head when it comes to Oda refusing the kill off characters. I'm guessing that since One Piece is in its final stages, he feels more comfortable killing off characters. I do recall him saying he found it frustrating that writers kill off characters only to bring them back later, noting that if they wanted to use those characters they shouldn't have killed them off in the first place. I think might explain the logic behind refusing to kill characters off, like he's playing an RPG and has this really valuable item that he should really use right now but doesn't because "what if I might need it later?" When it comes to Mjosgard, I suppose Oda did what he wanted to with him, and like Liam said, Mjosgard's actions had consequences among his fellow World Nobles. It also ends up proving his point to Fukaboshi, that just because Fukaboshi is royalty that's not going to be enough to protect him, his family, or the rest of Fishman Island from the World Nobles. As sad as Mjosgard's death is, this is realistically the only thing that could have happened to him, since he's one good World Noble against the rest of the evil ones. Like Liam said, actions have consequences, and honestly, it's kind of a relief for Oda to finally go there after showing a LOT of restraint when it came to killing characters off (which is a bit odd when I say it like that, actually). On the subject of Film Red, it's weird for Oda to throw in some canon information in that movie, considering the movie, as a whole, is non-canon just like Strong World. Because of that, it's no surprised that the whole "Figarland" thing caught people off-guard. Viz going back and changing what they said about Garling is kind of buckwild, but it still begs the question... Just who or what is he? I'm with Liam in that I don't envy the translators at all, because Oda writes One Piece in such a way that even minor, trivial details and what way certain characters say things end up becoming REALLY important down the line, and some of the nuances that come with what's said in Japanese can be difficult to replicate or translate in English, especially when the translator doesn't fully know where Oda is going with something. Having said that, I does make me look back at, say, the 4Kids dub for One Piece and just how many things they'd have to account for when it came to all the changes they made. "Mother Flame" sounds much better than "Mother Frame", to me at least. It's going to be awkward when we actually see this device and it's clearly fire-themed and nothing to suggest that it's a "Frame" or some kind, in which case Viz and the translators are going to eat it when they made the wrong call with this. But who knows, maybe they ARE right about this, or have more insight on what this thing actually is than we know? The fact that they changed Garling's thing but not the "Mother Frame" thing makes it seem that they're confident that's the way it's supposed to be. I honestly always used "Five Elders" and not the "Five Elder Stars", I always thought the latter felt clunky to say, plus they were (seemingly) just five old men, so yeah, "Five Elders" it is then.

The five elder stars vs planets is a minor thing compared to Berserk, where "The band of the Hawk" title was established for more than 20 years before Miura corrected it to "The band of the Falcon", which was a hard pill to swallow at the time.

I think Warcury is a good translation because it's also very similar to "War Cry", and with him as the Justice person, that can fit especially since it's the closest to war of the lot

Liam, here's one for you. What if Lily is Toki? She dissapeared 800years ago and we know Toki appeared out of nowhere. Top of that Lily is a D which would make Momonosuke and Hiyori a D. as well, that could explain why Momo heard Zunesha. Toki was trying to go back to Wano because 800years ago Wano was part of the Ancient Kingdom, so she as Queen of Alabasta knew about this. I think this would make sense. In Italian, the translation titles them as "I cinque astri di saggezza", which corresponds to "The five asters of wisdom". Asters could actually be the word we're looking for here, as it doesn't exactly define that it's a star or planet, but a general wording to reference glowing objects outside of the Earth, and generic celestial objects.

Btw, everyone was so focused on the revealed names of the Gorusai that they don't realize at the same time, Oda confirmed that the mother frame can't be used again and again and again. I don't blame any of them though, it's kinda hard to look past something that was far more anticipated than just a mere side confirmation. Anyway V. Nasjuro, and Ju Peter in tandem, both said that "if we could only use that power freely, then we could bring that ancient battle to it's conclusion." This tells me that there's an apparent limit to using the mother frame.

I want more videos about updated or post thought chapter reviews on the more important chapters like this. Very informative and gives your fans some extra content to discuss and hear your thoughts and perspective on. I want to correct one thing. Imu has only used "Mu" a single time. It's not really about them using different pronouns. It just speaks to how much japanese can have conversations while rarely using pronouns. But that makes it hard for other languages. Since Imu only used "Mu" a single time in japanese, they still come off as very straightforward and serious. But if you put "Mu" in every dialogue like in the french translation, it feels too childish. So I think Stephen Paul is correct to use "I" whenever Imu is not using Mu in japanese.

A sort of fun what if, when I think about the mother flame (frame) I think of the space colony arc from sonic, the satellite thing eggman used to destroy the moon. But in this case, something used to destroy an island til nothing is left. A satellite that Vegapunk made for Imu or the 5 Elders to use would be interesting. But if this does come to be, my question would be, what would Enel have seen? He would of saw whatever technology above the earth start powering up until it released a burst of energy, raining it down from the sky.

What if Garp is a hero narrative is actually a marine cover up? U know like how in Arabasta and almost happened in Dressrosa. Maybe that's the actual reason Garp don't really hold on to those moments.

If the weapon will be confirmed in the future, to be created by Vegapunk. I wonder if he'll reveal some sort of failsafe within the weapon on the off chance it was used against him or to conduct actions that he doesn't agree with.

for the french translation, you pronounced it right the first time, we say champion, the letters "CH" are pronounced together same as "SH" would be in english. it is true that we don't pronounce the letter H, but only when it's on its own between wowels, H serves as a pause, along with the C, it becomes what I said earlier, so you said champion correctly the first time around.

I was wondering if it was meant to be "motherframe" instead of "motherflame" since I saw the scans since it seemed like an easy mistake to make and motherframe made me think of something more technology based like the word mainframe. Which would make sense if it's a science weapon Vegapunk was involved in making. But the fact that it could be either or an intentional Imu pun does make a ton of sense and seem like an Oda thing to do.

Liam I think I have an idea about the identity of the D clan, in chapter 1066 shaka told robin that the empty century is the history of a war that was between 20 kingdoms and a specific kingdom which had an advanced civilization and after the 20 kingdoms victory they have formed an organization called the world government and then deleted everything that has something to do with that advanced kingdom from history, and shaka said that he thinks the ohara incident happened because they found out about that kingdom’s existence, and then in the latest chapter imu said that D was the name of our enemies, what if the people who used to live in that advanced kingdom are the D clan? I think they were so powerful and dangerous and they were a serious menace since 20 kingdoms had to cooperate with each other just to face that specific kingdom I mean wow!

So you mention how the most recent chapters have made the world government feel like a threat again after there blunders in Wano, but I think the reason why the WG is so big of a threat right now is BECAUSE of there mistakes in Wano. Like between the awakening of Gear 5th along side all the crap that went down in the reverie, the world govenement lost ALLOT of face for that. And like not only with us as readers, but with the characters in the world of one piece. Multiple nations started a rebellion because of the mistakes they made during the Wano arc.They screwed up. So now, in an attempt to save face, they are letting loose all the big guns they've been holding back this entire time. They know that the world stopped seeing them as a big threat, and now they are puffing up there chest and putting on a show so that way everybody knows exactly who is in charge here.

My guess is that the power source Vegapunk made can be channeled like how Franky's Colapunk engine on the Sunny can run the docking bay,,chicken run,Coup de burst but also be directed into a cola plasma blast through the Goan Cannon (likely Oda was inspired by Star Blazers for the Sunny)

I too was wondering why people assumed Garling was Shanks' father but it wasn't because I hadn't seen Red or been aware of the Gorosei connecting Uta & Shanks to the Figarland name. It was because it was too odd that Garling couldn't even be speculated to be a different male relative other than father - as if uncles, brothers, cousins and grandfathers don't exist. Garling is likely the head of the Figarland family just as he is the commander of God's Knights. Is it likely that Garling is Shanks' father or grandfather over other male relations? Yes. I just found the seemingly baseless elimination of other possibilities odd. Even naming Garling the former ruler is odd to me now. I thought as many others did that this meant he was King of God Valley until the supposed destruction of God Valley during the fight Roger & Garp had against the Rocks pirates. But now I think it was simply Oda making it clear the Figarlands were the original royal family of God Valley before they became Celestial Dragons hundreds of years ago rather than saying Garling himself was the actual King of God Valley at one point. Didn't Doflamingo say his family was the original royal family of Dressrosa before they became Celestial Dragons so Dressrosa needed a new royal family to rule over Dressrosa when they left for Mary Geoise? Isn't that why he specifically chose Dressrosa to be the 'King' of? To regain some of what he viewed as his rightful place after being denied his status as a Celestial Dragon. Seems Oda is further hyping the Figarland name and we may learn more about God Valley if he's connecting the Figarland name with God Valley. All the Celestial Dragon families were royalty of their own nations before the creation of the World Government and after its creation, these families rose above all other royals and moved to Mary Geoise and had to give up their status as royalty to become the gods of the world. They went from Kings to Gods. I hope we learn more about the Figarlands, God Valley and Shanks' history. Since Oda is repeatedly mentioning/hyping up the Figarland name and God Valley, I can only wonder what more we'll learn about those three things. We probably won't learn more until post Egghead or during Elbaf since it feels like this will be a cliffhanger and that the next chapter will go back to the events at Egghead. If it turns out that the Figarland's are not celestial dragons I'll be happy, though it's less interesting for them to seemingly be just esteemed guards or a guard even if they guard the Gods. Especially since I was hoping the Figarland family had more direct ties to the Ancient Kingdom, Joy Boy, Nika or the Void Century somehow.

I can't be the only one who thought this but to me "mother flame" made sense in the scans cause right after one of the five enders said something along the lines of "it would make sense to test it on forested land not open sea" as a flame weapon would be naturally better against grass and trees as opposed to just a boat on water.
