"What FIGHTING Taught Me About Life"
What does success mean to you? What does failure mean to you?
The Muay Thai Guy Sean Fagan set out to live his life pursuing what his heart was telling him - to pursue the path of a fighter.
But he quickly realise that even in the pursuit of your dream life, it requires sacrifices and the ability to face your own demons when things get challenging.
There were times in Sean’s journey where he seriously contemplated giving up the fight life.
The times he could have just laid on the canvas after getting knocked down, and wait for the referee to finish the count.
But the sheer willpower to stand up after getting knocked down, and to choose to look at pain and suffering in the face instead of running away, is such an extraordinary journey of self-discovery.
The more he fought, the more he learnt about himself.
It is the confidence in knowing that you have the ability to overcome adversity.
Losing a fight or making wrong decisions in life are mistakes that you can learn from, not failures. Failure is when you give up and stop trying.
And for Sean, knowing that he has the power to stand up after getting knocked down, gave him the courage and confidence in his own abilities to deal with other challenges in life.
This is why he feels that everyone can benefit from taking a fight, to find out who you are.

I still remember my feeling when I have to push myself to go for evening BJJ class after work, it never be easy. Just one week before my gym closed due to corona virus, I have just be promoted into two stripes (white belt), but I never let corona virus incident hinder me. Now I am doing boxing drills, swiss ball drill and some workouts as far as I can, hoping that when my gym reopen, I will continue my training with stronger physiques and smarter move, and hoping that the next year it may be my time to become a blue belt. Your story is very inspiring for me, respect!

If you HAD TO honestly list the following martial arts/combat styles from most to least useful and effective in A REAL 1v1 unarmed FIGHT, with number 1 being the most effective/useful, how would list these: Judo, BJJ, Wrestling, Tai Chi, Wing Chun, Boxing, Kickboxing, MuayThai, Aikido, and Tae Kwon Do.

I started kickboxing last September, and i remember before that i felt all my entire life an emptiness deep in side on my heart related to acceptance from others. Martials arts gave me something that even my job or family can fill my heart. Like he said, you learn about your self. I also was to preparing myself to fight on next December in an tournament and i was so much motivated to show that i could do it and even win it. One month and half as passed since the lock down because of the virus, and i'm really beginning to fell really depressed and sad. I tried to train by myself but i lost completely the motivation and its been really hard to get back on track. Really miss the pads and the sparring. Keep up the good word. Keep health.

I have been an individual scared of fighting or problems through my whole life, I could say I'm also a quitter in some things. I started training kickboxing and Muay Thai over a month ago and things just got serious there. I were in my very first sparring session and I had never sparred before. Since I'm not used to take kicks (low kicks), well, they just snapped my leg and had to stop training for a week due to the bruises and pain. I thought for a few times if I am really made for this or if I should quit, but I just saw this. Now I remember that it will take time and we have to face our fears. Thank you guys. I promise to be the hero of my own story in every single area in my life or die trying.

I've only had a couple fights as an amateur kickboxer. Won them but injured my rib before my next one. After that I tore my ACL and then it was just a domino effect of injuries so I haven't competed seriously since. I still train to stay in shape but I'm always thinking about 1 maybe two more fights before I turn 40. I also believe the process into becoming a fighter training sparring everyday is quite an experience you'll get no where else. A life changer

@@seanfagan you are welcome Sean...I salute you mate for having a crack and finding the courage to live by your convictions. There are a few things you spoke about that really resonated with me...I had similar thoughts and hopes some 35 years or so ago, but it was a different time then....pre internet, pre mobile phones even and Muay Thai was not yet mainstream and it was a bridge too far me. As a young 19 year old from small town country Australia it was a bridge too far for me.....I remember being taken too Muay Thai camp outside of Chiang Mai because I wanted to see what it was like.....I had been to both Lumpini and Ratchadamnern stadiums to watch the fights. I was a brown belt Tae Kwon Do and 4 or 5 amateur boxing fights under my belt! Anyway I it to this camp with the help of a guide... remember pre internet....and of course they wanted me to train...hahaha...anyway I ended having to spar a 16 year old who already had 30 plus fights under his belt... I had at least 12 kgs on him...I still remember the first time he kicked my leg..... and then threw me to the ground with ease..it was crazy! Many years later I found myself under prepared and overmatched in my first pro fight and I suffered a broken forearm exactly like yours... except it was my right....I was fighting a southpaw....it was pinned and plated exactly like yours! Anyway mate...good on you, your are already a winner...in your own life mate.....I wish you all the best Sean....more power!

I did have a kickboxing fight when I was 22. I was training for 4 years back then and wanted try it. I fought before a huge home crowd and gassed so bad in the second round the referee called it of. So emberrassing. Still bothers me because I know now, at 32, my mindset was wrong. I fought just to win, not to try my best and be content with the outcome. The mental process is way different. I still aim to do a Boxing exhibition to redeem myself, for myself.

Well, I started fighting because I got bullied. After the bullying stopped I needed to learn to control my emotions and fears. Now I have neither really something to fear (I was the kid that was not scared to walk alone through the woods in the middle of the night) nor do I lose control about myself anymore. So learning how to fight and training how to fight helped me to stop fighting.

Would you continue with a broken arm? Jesus. And - the other thing - that kick didn't have *too* much behind it, and it still broke his arm.

I dont think you're taken a shi especially to the head its technique over power trust me.

@@unknownhuslter1357 That's what I'm saying. A shin is like a piece of metal. That limited amount of rotation broke his arm. Thst boy Rua kicks with nearly 3.000 ft lbs of energy. There's a Thai fighter on the web breaking two baseball bats with his shin. Can you imagine the damage that could be caused by a full power kick that lands absolutely flush?
