Hi Susan. Fun video! I use UHU glue stick for collaging paper and the majority of things that I glue down flat and can give a good brayering or at least a good rub down with the side of a credit card. I use (cheap!) Amazon Basics brand glue stick for temporary adhering of fabric to paper that will be sewn. I’ve had terrible problems with Fabri-tac bleeding through fabric so I now use Golden Gel Medium for adhering fabric to make my journal covers (it’s stickier than matte medium). For permanent fabric to paper gluing I use Art Glitter Glue most of the time. Sometimes the Art Glitter Glue wont stick to certain synthetic fabrics, so I’ll use Fabri-tac but I rub it out a bit so it’s not in a thick drop or glue bead (to minimize bleed through). Once in a while I’ll use Aleene’s tacky glue, but usually more for gluing heavy card weight materials. The temporary spray adhesive is great for spraying (lightly!) on the backs of stencils when you want to airbrush through a stencil. I have totally given up on Mod Podge because of the stickiness issue. (I have things that I Mod Podged over 15 years ago and they are still sticky!)

Just used the UHU stick to glue pieces of book pages to a cover inside. I have a bottle of Aleene's glue (but it's expensive here) and I use more it now and then. Fabric Tac we don't have here. I use an cheap (no name) fabric glue and it works find to me. You have quite a collection glues Susan. I try to keep my collection small but effective. Thanks for making this interesting video.

I have a a fair few of those different glues!! - Like yourself, saw it thought I NEEDED to have it! I started off with score tape and the little score tape runners, awesome but as you mentioned they get expensive (double sided sticky tape is also a cheaper alternative) I then moved onto the same blue Tombow Aqua glue. Love/hate relationship with that glue! Love the two different nozzles, hate the fact it bubbles paper (although I think that's mostly me using too much of it) E6000 never worked for me, I used it a few times when jewellery making and believe it or not, after several days it was still tacky and hadn't adhered at all ... couldn't stand the smell of it either so a friend ended up taking it off me and using it instead! Mod Podge - I have used that in the past for various things but found making my own version with PVA and water was much cheaper. I only really use it for decoupage and to seal things as again, like the Tombow, I don't like the way it bubbles the paper. I have also used PVA based wood glue in place of Mod Podge/my homemade version .. great stuff, but bubbles paper! Glue Gun - Not a huge fan as I'm so clumsy I kept burning myself with it lol - It does work well, I just never got on with it! I also have some Duct Tape as well that I use for reinforcing book spines! My 3 favourite ones to use now all the time for multipurpose projects are: Fabri-Tac / Beacons 3 in 1 - both great stuff, I can barely tell a difference between the two when using them. Art Glitter Glue - quite literally my most used glue these days. I reach for that before anything else all the time now! UHU Glue Stick - LOVE IT - enough said lol

@@SusanTaylorBrown argghh...I remember Gayle having the exact same problem with her Art Glitter Glue but I can't for the life of me remember how she fixed it. I am positive it's because she put the metal tip on thinking you just push it on and it stays in place but you have to push it and screw it at the same time a couple of times. Maybe give that a try? Take it off, give it a rinse and then put it back on again by pushing it on firmly and then screwing it as well xx

I also like using my own homemade mixture of mod podge/PVA glue/water. I have to play with the exact proportion because results are so different. I like to use more glue than mod podge, and more water than glue, so I guess 50:50 (glue/mod podge : water). The exact is tricky. I love how tight the bond is. It lays perfectly flat if I smooth it when wet, dries quickly, and is not sticky. Of course it is not a sealer, but it plasticizes the paper a bit. And it stretches my glue supply. I add water to tacky glue and like the easier flow. I use distilled water in the bottles if I'm not planning to use it up that day. I absolutely cannot stand glue sticks because my hands get messy. I prefer to use a brush. I like the fine tip nozzles that have a twist top.

This was great, thanks so much. I'm relatively new to journal making. I use Aleene's Tacky Glue, Elmer's and Mod Podge. I made a mistake & ordered the glossy with a coupon and got the large one, 64 oz. or so, and it is the stickiest, so I'm experimenting with taking off the gloss & stickiness. I think adding baby powder is the best so far. I'm moving more to Elmer's & the like, because of the cost of Aleene's. Because I'm new, I'm TRYING not to buy every tool, every product, every thing I see. Difficult, this. And supplies are SO expensive. And like you I have ordered things, waited a month or two, and then the thing arrived & I've forgotten why I wanted it. :)

I agree about problematic glues. E6000 and Fabritac are on my not-to-buy-again list, both stink and like to ooze out of their containers and don't work as well as I think they should. Tacky glue is too hard to get out of the container, so I won't buy it, either. For gluing journals and their bits I mainly use Art Glitter Glue and glue stick (Elmer's Permanent or UHU). I use Weldbond (it is a PVA glue) when I need a strong thick glue. I previously used Weldbond for making mosaics, and probably wouldn't have thought to buy it for making journals but it does work well for certain journally things. I also use various widths of double sided tape in my journals. I mostly buy a tape off of Amazon that is less expensive but similar/same as SCOR tape. Not all carpet tape is created equal; some I've seen is thinner, and some is thick and gummy and not at all like SCOR tape. Scotch double-sided tape is pretty good for most general purpose double-sticking; people will know if they need something more. SCOR tape isn't an absolute necessity, in my opinion. I find a roll of foam tape for card-making helpful, but I wouldn't advise anyone to buy it until they have a need. I've got various other mediums, tapes, and adhesives for art and sewing and home projects.

I think my go too biggy is Glitter Glue. I have E6000 as I used to do jewelry and it worked well for that. I have had purple Elmers sticks but they were so soft I went through a million of them so I switched to UHO which is a bit harder. I use Fabric Tak for fabrics. I also have matte medium for decoupage, also getting away from Mod Podge. I love the homemade recipes but I make too much and then it hardens in what I put in!! Ug. I have that really big score tape gun that I never use anymore from my scrapbooking days. Do you Gesso at all? Great video Susan! Thanks!

Really enjoyed your video, Susan! It's so nice to know I'm not alone in buying things I see on videos that I never use. BTW, have you tried Mod Podge Paper? I've used it for napkin decoupage and also to stick small pieces of book pages on scrapbook paper and it doesn't dry sticky. I have the same problem not being able to squeeze Elmer's Craft Bond or Aleene's Tacky Glue unless I use two hands! Is the Art Glitter Glue bottle easy to squeeze?

Been thre, done that, too! LOL! Now I prefer Art Glitter Glue and Fabri-Tac/3-in-One/Beacon's only when I use fabric or something difficult to hold down. Can't stand the stench of Fabri-Tac. Over 30 years ago I made cloth albums for my children using hot glue, and now they are coming unglued. Whether the glue wasn't as good back then, or if that's to be expected with time, I don't know. TFS the inspiration!

My favorites are glue stick, either UHU, or the Scotch Create which I just recently started using so I don’t know how well it lasts compared to the UHU because I’ve only used it on things that have left my home, nothing that I’ve kept yet. Fabri-Tac, Fabri-fix, or 3 in 1, I don’t know that there’s any difference, I can’t tell a difference and I can’t really smell it, and then of course Art Glitter glue if you want to hold something immediately. If you think you can’t put it down straight or might need to move it don’t use Art Glitter glue because once it’s down it’s not moving. I used to use Aleenes Tacky glue back in the day and then I discovered The Ultimate which is even better but now I don’t even use that anymore I just use the three mentioned above. If I need a collage type medium I also use golden mat medium or Liquitex mat medium I also do not like Mod Podge, it’s sticky.

The Love/Hate glue dilemma's!!! I recently got Art Glitter glue love that I don't get in such a mess with it, I use Fabri-Tac for fabrics but I like the 3in1 better. UHU glue stick is my favourite, you can't get Elmers here anyway. I know a few are using Scotch create haven't seen or used that but may give that a go sometime soon. Pritt glue stick doesn't last very long before it gives up and you can peel the paper right off, so I will probably use that up on tacking down fabrics if I want to sew it, which I don't do much... Yet! As I've only just got my old sewing machine up and running again and it weighs a ton!! I never went down the Mod Podge hole and I don't intend too. If I need a wet glue I just use a PVA and water it down. I did buy E6000 for metal jewellery but I was a wirework jewellery maker so never ended up needing it. So it's never been opened so no clue if it works! 😂😂 I've bought tombows which I don't like and tacky glue which I dont use much for the same reasons as you, I can't get the damn stuff out of the bottle now I have arthritis in my hands!!! Phew I think that's about it!! So favourites are UHU, 3in1/Fabri-Tac and Art Glitter glue which I love, as for your metal cap problem not sure how you can fix that, I didn't have an issue but I did twist it because I thought that's what you did anyway to bed the little notches into the plastic tip! Maybe, like one of your other commenters said, you could clean up the nozzles and start again doing that! It's like opening a can of worms with Glues!!! Ha ha ha 😂😂😂❤️

The reviews on amazon were less than "amazing." But ... I'd like to know from journalers! My faves right now seem to be the extreme glue stick from elmers and just ordered "fabritac?" For attaching fabrics in the journals... i see so many folks using that! I thought the fabritac was expensive though; $9.95 for 4 oz?? I think that is a lot?? Ohhhh I was wondering why I never saw anyone use glue sticks?? Now that I see you love it I will try it. I thought maybe when it dried it would pop off?? ...ok, you like the fabritac .... I am not tempted by the plethora of craft products available to you in the states since I don't live there, but I understand the excitement of trying out a new product. A curse or a blessing? I don't know. I've been forced to hone my craft budget philosophy. This is where I have landed. I buy the smallest size available to try it out and don't try any other similar product until that first one has been tested. If a favorite product goes on sale, I buy one since it will always go on sale again. Of course if it is a product I love then I will purchase the largest size, because it is more economical. Because my space is limited, I only buy one of what I need and let my supplier stock the rest, rather than it taking up my precious craft room space. Yes, of course I am tempted as it is the nature of crafting, but I do ask myself more often now, "What do I already have that will solve this issue?" I usually already have the solution in my stash. Thank you for sharing on a topic we can all relate to. xx
