I made a round granny blanket following your original tutorial a year or so ago, and the cake I used started with only a few yards of a light grey before transitioning to the next color. I didn't want to be wasteful, so I went with it, but as I progressed it read like more of a dirty smudge in the center, next to the white that followed it. The way I "fixed" mine was to crochet a flower motif using coordinating scraps and sew it as an applique over the center. It turned out looking cute and intentional and unless you look at the back side of the blanket, you'd never know that "smudge " was there.

Here's another idea put roses at the end of the granny circle roll it up and place it in a tall basket and you will have a bouquet of roses blanket
