■ Lewis Hamilton notched the 104th win in his career and the first one after the 2021 Jeddah GP, and while making the entire Formula 1 world happy while doing it on his home turf in Silverstone, it goes to show a lot about where Mercedes currently is. Although the DNF from Russell due to the suspected cooling issue might throw a bit of shade on what Hamilton has been waiting for so long, Mercedes’ winning two races in a back-to-back manner is definitely the news that we’re here for. So, could we see this scenario a lot more in 2024, and more importantly, how will this shape up the entire grid in the remainder of the season?

In a word, “yes” if he wants another championship. AMG will have the best engine under the new regs by all accounts (remains to be seen), but I don’t blame his decision. Who wouldn’t want to say “I drove for Ferrari”.

@@charles-davidberube1174 Hasn’t happened too many times of late unless you race at Monaco but I get your point. I’d love to win an F1 race in a Ferrari but it’s not going to happen. Good luck to Lewis if he can do it. Saying that as a Ferrari fan but they are clearly number 3.5 behind Red Bull, McLaren and Mercedes at the moment. Perez is the other 0.5. 1 or 2 years for Hamilton to try and win in red and then work on his fashion empire.

@@dreson6very unlikely, obviously we won't know until the cars are on track but RBPT have not been hitting targets on developing the '26 PU for over a year now. And rumors around say that Mercedes are the odds on favorite for the new engine, obviously rumors are not gospel but they are based on a mixture of past evidence and privileged information that we don't all have access to so it gives a clearer picture than anything else we can go off of for now.

My 11 year old son was sat there glued to the TV for the entire 52 laps of Silverstone. He absolutely worships Lewis. & when He brought it home for the win (with Max closing that gap behind, every turn)…. My boy broke down in absolute tears! (Like he was a member of the Mercedes team!) & both Me & mum couldn’t contain ours either! …He’s had to watch for like the past 3 years of His hero struggling to come to terms with the newer model cars! So I can fully understand the emotion there! It was a wonderful day for British F1 fans! & I hope we can at least see more from Him between now & the end of the 2024 season. Myself was Rooting for Lando to get that very first British GP win. Which I imagine is devastating for the lad. But Lewis had more to prove that day! (Not just to us!… But to Himself!)

I have to admit myself this one is a little over the limit, we apologize for that. If Lewis never wins another race for Mercedes or switching to Ferrari it does not matter. Proved yet again he is the "Goat" of F1 racing. Nobody can dispute. Max is currently the one they all have to beat tho. He has matured into being the complete driver who rarely makes mistakes. Will be hailed also as one of the greatest when he's done.

I would not rule Max out too early in 2024. He has won 7 out of 12 F1 Races. He has also won 3 out of 3 Sprint Races in 2024 YTD. He is the only F1 Driver in 2024 to date who has more than 1 Race Win. Lewis did a great job yesterday and won that race at Silverstone fair and square. Max started the race in P4 and finished it in P2 only 1. 4 seconds behind Lewis. He was gaining on Lewis the last 5 laps of the race, but simply ran out of time and track to beat him. So, it is going to be interesting and good racing to watch in the balance of 2024. The field is tight among Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari. All are good cars with great Drivers. I am a Max fan, but I love competition and we are getting it in 2024 F1.

Well deerrrrrrrr max on the better tyre And Lewis on dying softs. Obviously he would have eventually caught up. But for last 3 laps with max on the better tyres Lewis kept the gap from reaching DRS. Every f1 puts max for this years WDC why would you not? But finally at least it didn’t take 7 years to catch up like the hybrid era. For the rest of this season we might see max actually get challenged. Last time max had any competition was against Lewis. BIG LH.

I think it’s more than meets the eye with Lewis’s decision. Neither party is totally “complete” and both parties are aware of their own limitations. Ferrari seems to build a great car from the get-go and then fails to bring any decent updates on the car, while Lewis “prime” time is over. So, why then this association? The only plausible explanation I can think of is that probably Ferrari is assembling a great team which convince Lewis to join.

I doubt that Hamilton could, realistically, stay at Mercedes. There is no doubt that Russell is World Championship material and has the advantage of age over Hamilton. Given a competitive car, Russell would likely dominate (as indeed he has in qualifying this year). So a move was always on-the-cards. Why Ferrari? Well, most F1 drivers would love the chance to drive for Ferrari, and Hamilton is no exception. I suspect that racing with Leclerc will be less contentious (than with Russell) and perhaps with Lewis's experience he can help the team improve. Personally I would've preferred to see him at McLaren, but that's not going to happen as they have two strong drivers who seem to work well together.

In the lower categories Russell had the same record-breaking trajectory as Hamilton, youngest-ever winner, beat Leclerc in maiden race, beat Norris, etc. I think Lewis has timed his Merc exit perfectly. And this legendary Silverstone win is an excellent cherry on his Mercedes cake. I wouldn't be surprised if his Ferrari chapter will end up being a bit like Alonso and Vettel: occasionally really exciting underdog wins, but also a lot of anguish.

McLaren pretty much had silverstone won if it wasn’t for poor pit stop and tire choice. Last 2 races have been won due to other teams handing mercs the chance to win.

The problem with Leclerc is he listens to the Strat team far too much. And he pit what? 4 times in Austria. Not necessary. Lewis likely won't listen to that nonsense and will do his own race like Sainz does. I still think Lerclerc is the grids most over rated driver.

I don't think Leclerc is overrated but I do feel he would benefit from an experienced team mate in the pursuit of improving Ferrari's performance. I believe Hamilton is that man and that both the team and Leclerc will benefit enormously from his experience and overall attitude to racing.

Hamilton going to Ferrari is the absolute most mind boggling thing ever. The team has been consistently a disappointment for close to a decade. Consistent bad strategy calls, consistent reliability issues (not lately, but still), consistently bad. Seriously, we've seen the rise and fall of Aston Martin, the rise of McLaren and two amazing young drivers, the bounce back of Mercedes with two drivers that'll guve us a lot of spectacular fights in the future... Then theres Ferrari and two drivers who are fighting more with the strategy calls than other drivers... Consistently extraordinarily disappointing

It was a strange race, it was close but no battles. Max struggled, McLaren killed both cars, Russell broke down. Lewis drove a clean race, kind of anticipated a battle but it never happened.

It'd be fair to assume that both Hamilton and Adrian Newey want their swan song sung in Ferrari, that'd befit their incredible talents and careers. Lewis is Ferrari bound and from a rational perspective it'd be fair to ascertain that so is Adrian Newey. The combination of Lewis and Adrian will be a dominant combination both need to their imperial legacy. So, whoever, signs their combination will win and Ferrari has secured half their target by signing Lewis and other half which is Adrian is being watched with rather closely.

I doubt either side will be hurt by the deal. Im sure Ferrari have a clause for Lewis to retire, and the engineers he will probably bring with him, im sure he won't mind. Ferrari also get to say that one of the greatest ever drove for them, and maybe even retired from their team. Its gonna be interesting seeing how his follow up is going into the regulations. Lewis, and even Alonzo may just bow out with their impressive careers. Theres a few older drivers in the cockpit of those cars, but i want to see one or more of the women from the academy show up, even if its just durring free practice, or last race of the season depending on how the points sit.

In 2012 Hamilton made the absolute right decision to switch from McLaren to Mercedes, but it seems as if this switch to Ferrari is not going to be so successful, sadly. I do hope he wins races at Ferrari as Alonso and Vettel did, but it will be improbable that he pulls a Schumacher.

The British GP positions were decided by a few specific things: McLaren made poor team & individual (Lando) decisions. RedBull & Max made some absolutely fantastic decisions & ultimately made the best from their car. Mercedes were ok with decision making, however Lewis nailed his driving while George was just unlike with car situation.

Complete rubbish, Hamilton has joined Ferrari for the changes in 2026, it just so happened that the timing was in place to move in 2025.. Any of the top 4 teams could bring out an update that puts them at the front... Its fantastic for F1 that we finally have a battle..

What a load of piss and wind. Another two laps and Verstappen would have been on the top of the podium, and it would be a whole new story. Blasting a fanfare because of a couple of what can pretty much be described as 'lucky wins,' doesn't change the landscape that much. Red Bull are just as innovative as any other team, and are likely to find their mojo some time soon. If not, hurrah for McLaren! The field is now open for Piastri and Norris - go get it boys.
