Interesting.. I'll be the first to come out and say something very personal about my life and cape cod on a public platform. Overcoming addiction and withdrawals, Opiate addiction specifically, is one of the most difficult things for someone to do. Those who have never experienced it will never truly understand it entirely. Its one of those lessons in life you have to find out for yourself. As a cape codder, I learned that lesson too. For all of my life I've lived on the lower cape, from ptown all the way to eastham where I live to this day. I was your average kid, graduated Nauset high in 2009. You could say I was a pothead, yeah but I understood drugs, or so I thought. I had experimented with opiate related drugs during my highschool years, but once a year. It wasn't until I believe 2011 when I started taking painmeds habitually and started to feel the affects of withdrawals, then came the point of no return. although I kept a moral awareness not to ever use needles, my opiate addiction escalated regardless of using a needle. The fall of 2013 is when I voluntarily joined the wellfleet Outercape Suboxone program. Although the program did help me focus on my life and fix what was broken you could say but I still knew that my body was still dependent on a drug in order to function. Its a chain like feeling when you think about it, like your trapped. Today, as of the moment I'm currently typing this, I'm ten days sober off of the Suboxone program and every action I took to stop my addiction was voluntary. The date I detoxed. 3/22/15. Date today is 4/1/15. There's an unfortunate saying but its true to the core. You CANNOT help someone who won't help themselves. It requires true commitment and willpower. This is only just my story among so many that didn't get to tell their own story because they lost to addiction. I always say, addiction is a losing battle in the end, if you think it won't ruin or even take your life,
