This is a really good film. The directing, music, writing and acting are all on point. Just like Primm said it is authentic. And it has an inspiring message that even a person later on in their life can still try to fulfill their dreams. Terrence Howard was nominated for an Oscar for this role. He deserved to win but alas he did not. Sad Black Oscar moment.

really good film, one of my favourites too. I like that he's not an incredible undiscovered lyricist in a typical cliched movie way, he just a broke dude with a dream that he wont achieve. His "big break" escaped him, and in his rage he inadvertently became famous for beating Skinny, and from the guards comments street lore became that whup dat trik was actually a Skinny diss track, thus cementing its legacy, with the minor detail that the song was actually intended to persuade skinny to sign him getting lost in translation. never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Memphis nigga here, "Lemon Lame" was a phrase that was popular in the early to mid 90s. People were not not saying this in 2005 or anytime around then. I remember Memphians hating this movie when it came out but due to the Oscar win and time, people's opinion may have softened on it.
@AripLabalt
@AripLabalt 2 жыл бұрын
why they hate it tho? im french and i was already a big fan of the memphis scene, and to my perspective i was really impressed by how it seems authentic... plus you got several cameos from memphis legends, a good soundtrack, etc! i'm really curious to know why they hated it? (maybe because ludacric was the main "villain" and not a memphis rapper?)
@kahmayart7113
@kahmayart7113 2 жыл бұрын
@@AripLabalt It wasn't due to Ludacris, but more so it wasn't authentic to most Memphians. Terrance Howard's accent is off for starters. As much as we hate on our city, we take deep pride in how it's represented. Especially when it goes on an international scale. Don't get me wrong, this movie got a lot of things right - but there's a lot wrong with it as well.
@emptyeye901
@emptyeye901 2 жыл бұрын
@@AripLabalt @Kahmay Art Is right, this movie portrays Memphis as backwater town. In reality Memphis is more of a hybrid. It has rural and urban section. One minute you will be in a nice neighborhood and the next street over you are in the slums.
