From what I understand service delivery, slow pace of construction, frequent power outages even in affluent areas of Bengaluru was the reason for some. Karnataka loss has a simple explanation: there are no strong local leaders like the congress has. Most of them just spew verbal diarrhoea without any grassroots link..basically no mass leaders.. they played musical chair with CM seat. Also congress smartly turned Lingayats away from bjp by usual divide and rule.Age old quota issue brought back to life and also from background pushed Lingayats(and their political leaning mutts) to seek a separate religion status which obviously is impossible and unacceptable to anyone with common sense(so I don’t entirely blame bjp for not getting Lingayat votes). They didn’t have counter to the 40% commision charge, which btw was mostly true. If BJP does not get a strong grassroots leader here, it’s impossible for them the come back to power. Plus rural ppl still fall pray to freebies and it played a big role. BJP in a way is right to not offer freebies but they failed to provide good services and governance and didn’t install confidence in the voters. Congress knows freebies work as most South Indian states have this model. Hope it’s a good lesson for the bjp leadership.
