What Happened On Obraxis Prime? | Why Are There No Weapons In Subnautica? | Subnautica Theory

"Weapons were removed from standard survival blueprints following the massacre on Obraxis Prime. The knife remains the only exception."
Now when each and every one of us heard that for the first time we all got a little curious. Oh, there’s going to be no guns? What happened on Obraxis Prime? Why did the developers decide to not include other weapons? Today, I’ll be answering these questions and more...

here's another interesting theory, obraxis prime was originally a planet like 4546B, and maybe something like that happens in the present subnautica happens. ship lost. years later alterra goes looking for them by that time people have made it a fully functioning place and when alterra try's to take it back they revolt. so they remove the weapons from the fabricators and eventually after a bloody battle. alterra wins, taking everything there and turning it into a research facility hope you enjoy my theory and congrats on 17K (when it happens)

Its more likely that a guy got mad at someone and killed a bunch of people in the ship. Like consider this you're stuck in a ship and you have to wait until you get to the planet, its way more likely for someone to get enraged at another person and kill everyone aboard. But your theory also makes alot of sense like if alterra wanted us to pay 1 trillion credits to land on Earth why wouldnt it be with everyone else?

"Escape and Evade" is much harder than "Stand Your Ground." Besides, what if you miss or run out of ammo? Sometimes it's better to "keep away" and survive for another day, than play "Big Game Hunter" and be devoured.

@@SpeedyMouse I have come across a number of "King of the Mountain" players who ask: "Where are the guns? I wanna shoot something." On Planet 4546B, the player isn't "top of the food chain," and everything else is ready to "take a bite out of you." As one "goes deeper," there are dangerous/hostile animals that shrug off your knife slashes; the "Gun" and "Cannon" in the game will buy you time to scan or escape, as needed.

@@Otokichi786 unfortunately I believe the entire point of no weapons is due to the dev teams political views on weapons If you aren’t the top of the food chain then make yourself the top of the food chain. Which you can definitely do with the tools provided but subnautica is a terrible game for saying “You don’t need a weapon” When that’s the only thing you want so that you don’t have to hide away.

i think obraxus prime was a smaller planet with massive cities, and multiple phase gates. and at some point altera abused their power in numbers and tech and went guns a blazing on riots or controversy in the cities.

Fully automatic weapons have not been available since the 80s they have been banned. Semi automatic weapons are regulated the problem is not weapons but the system almost everyone who has committed a shooting has a mental condition that did not keep them From buying or owing a firearm some people took they’re parents not the guns fault.

I have a lot of respect for the developers for not including weapons. It’s nice to see a survival game that doesn’t support the destruction of the world or planet but encourages you to looks past your fear and sea (pun intended) the beauty of the natural world. It makes it scary and more fun anyways.

I initially didn't like the lack of weapons and found it frustrating but as time went on and I got better I started to improvise more and find other methods to get by. Now I like the lack of arms as it not only forces me to adapt but also sets the game apart from most every other titles and in the end I think it's a better game for it.

The Devs are wrong, the only way to fix guns is with guns. I understand alternatives means of force, but you'll still get pirates, rough ships, and other possibly more hostile intelligent species. It is like blaming fire on fire, no sence what so ever. Id be happy with even a basic lazer side-arm. But even with the alternatives, I still find ways to kill aggressive creatures in Subnautica. Also this broadcast originates from cereal number 11742-109 "Orion" in an alternate realm, instead of alternatives, my ream decided on a 50/50 split of lethal & none lethal means. And we actively strive for means to take what only needs taken, without excessive or mass civilian or bi-stander casualties. My vessel is charged with development of such means of Kenetic Kill Vehicles, Concussion Kill Vehicles & Energy Kill Vehicles. So far we only have 5 active prototypes using conventional (& near future) navel hardpoints.

(Note, I have not read all the PDAs yet) My theory: Obraxis Prime was an unexplored, habitable and terrestrial planet. Alterra, or some other TransGov deployed and exploration task force. What they found were defensive creatures, mistaken to be extremely hostile. All of them that came near were shot and killed. Alterra quickly got info on the incident and enacted a strict ban on all firearms and ranged weapons.

That’s my theory also but I also haven’t read all of the pdas, but to add I can imagine since this takes place in the future they’re more towards keeps ecosystems alive, cause as you can note in the games the people on the planet never invade habitats or destroy anything they try to coexist as best as possible, I think this is because of the most likely outcome of what happened back on earth in these games they are trying to keep new planets largely untouched by humans other than what we see.

Subnautica was great without guns. It kept us in fear and feel unsafe when we aren't in the shallows. It was super unique and one of the reasons subnautica was and still is the best game in existance imo.

There's one theory I come up with for the Obraxus Prime Massacre. Based on the facts when Subnautica was in development is all because of the school shooting, it could be some the aliens or the colonist went rouge and kill everyone before Alterra stopped the criminals and arrested them including the one who made the weapons in the life pod's blueprint downloads were removed, but the survival knife is spared then Alterra pledged themselves that they'll never make the same mistake or another incident tragedy again.

I didin't expect this video to be so interesting! I have another theory, but its close to the 5° one. Maybe the terrorist snuck into Obraxis Prime's facilities and, to avoid detection, they created guns from the inside of the bases, using the lifepods or other fabricators. Maybe they got everyone by surprise, resulting in a lot of casualties. The fact that it is a massacre, it don't sound like a battle of some sort, but a slaughter without control and unexpected.

To be fair, I feel like if Subnautica’s defensive technology like shield generators and stasis rifles were real, I don’t think I’d feel as strongly about needing to own a gun to feel safe, but since we don’t get to have those IRL, guns also work just fine for neutralizing life threatening situations

@@gbmp419 not that, sorry I was unclear. I meant using guns for "neutralizing life threatening situations"- usually guns end up making whatever problem you have even worse (unless another party is also in posession of a gun, but that all but guaruntees a shootout)

Ik this is an old video, but I have a theory: The theory is that the incident was an actual massacre between survivors/crewmembers who were isolated on Obraxis Prime, possibly having arguments like the Degassi members did, but while having guns among them, someone snapped. Due to the reasons Devs removed any concept of actual letal or fire weapons from the game I would say that the massacre did occurred, now, the pda tells us that blueprints were removed from the Lifepod's (base) fabricators, but we can still make certain weapons like the charged knife and the torpedos with other kinds of fabricators. alterra removing all weapons(also the survival knife) because of them waiting to stay in control would make sense, people would get super made, but to have a middle ground, they re added the survival knife. so anyone who need to survive can have a decent chance.

You know I initially thought they fabricated a nuclear weapon on it but now I realize some employee probably just went on a mass shooting. I would think there would be security personnel on board ships to prevent this

I believe there was weapons available through the fabricator at one point in time, however some survivor in the past must've commited something akin to war crimes with them, like genocide or the like...

Potentially what happened was someone rigged a gun the fire a knife and they tried to hunt something but a fellow citizen/survivor got in the way as the trigger was pulled. Because of this, the knife was propelled at very high speeds making a hole through the unlucky individual, and said person died, and everyone heard the shot due to high pressure, so it looked like a murder. From there, the person who rigged up the gun was put into jail. Alterra got word, and removed weapons from the package to protect everyone, just because of one single death that was accidental.

I believe #2, that Alterra committed Russia on a planet that was colonized by Alterran employees. Alterra was using resources from the planet but then had more important priorities, so they moved on, allowing the Alterran workers on the planet to colonize it. A couple years later when Alterra wanted the resources back, so they invaded the planet and fought for it back. They probably ended up losing and outlawed weapons to hide that Alterra had a skill issue. They later simply moved on from the planet.

I imagine that obraxis prime was a top line stellar cruise ship hence the name prime. Anyway some terrorist group infiltrated because a official was on it. They boarded a escape pod used the fabricator to create firearms and used them

I think that a ship crashed on the planet and somehow some precursors were the then the survivors used the guns in their survival package to kill them
