My dad has bipolar disorder, and one day he lost his cool with a Blockbuster employee who said we owed a late fee that he already paid. (It was just a minor mistake that could have been fixed by explaining.) Instead my dad exploded and threw a pen at the employee. For years afterward, every time we went to Blockbuster, whenever we checked out at the end of our visit, the employees would get this weird look on their face while reading the screen. They'd call each other over and snicker and smirk. I 100% know that they wrote something about my dad on our account, but I'll never know.

honestly, i did something similar: in its waning days, they were offering new DVDs for trade if you brought in old movies. a friend had given me a copy of 'daredevil' and good god who wants that in their collection? i figured i'd trade it for something a little more, you know... good. i walked to the local blockbuster and decided to trade in the pinnacle of ben affleck's work for one of the lord of the rings flicks. i walked right in, saw what i wanted, grabbed it, and then walked right to the counter. the dude at the checkout counter took a look at the 'daredevil' disc and said, "you stole this." now, i may not be the most saintly human being but i sure as hell do not commit theft of any sort. it super pissed me off, so after completing our transaction, i threw my membership card at him and told him to cancel my membership, then call the police if he really wanted to work out this whole theft thing. he declined. i don't know what happened after that and i don't care. the store closed within six months and he was unemployed so f*ck him.

I grew up in North Pole Alaska where there was one of the final blockbusters. It's now a realtor office, and the one in Fairbanks Alaska is empty I think. But it's cool to say that I've been to both of the most Northern blockbusters before they died :')

Despite the ease of watching movies now, I miss the video stores. I even just miss the smell of plastic and popcorn that hits you when you walk in. That scent needs to be bottled and sold. My sister managed Movie Gallery, so I got a lot of free stuff. Good ol days.

That “Be kind, rewind” slogan has a chokehold on me to this day. In fact I literally said it to my children today. As a strict conservative family, my parents never allowed me to go into a blockbuster (too many inappropriate movies) so I never experienced it but it sounds like a good time. Loving these deep dive videos!

I remember renting Powerpuff Girls and Sailor Moon DVDs from Blockbuster, and we would get those popcorn buckets where you just stuck the whole thing in the microwave to pop the popcorn! Good times

I remember our local Blockbuster like yesterday lol. The carpets smelled like a mixture of popcorn and vomit and they had a section for video games called "Game Zone." I remember when I was like 4 or 5 years old I rented a Gamecube game with Winnie the Pooh in it and renting it so much the people there practically gave it to me for free. Then they closed a year later and we had to drive a little further to go to Blockbuster and several years later they closed all the locations in my town. 😢

Our blockbuster was situated right beside a Little Caesar’s. Wednesday nights in middle school, we’d get movies, candy and then swing over for some $5 Pizza. Now that was the good life

I live in Alabama too. I know that rhe blockbuster in our town was connected to the mall, but now the spot is abandoned, along with like 98% of the mall lol. Too young to remember actually going there but we still have vhs tapes at the house that should've been returned 💀💀

I miss the times when I could rent a movie, and when you brought the DVDs home, everyone knew it's movie time, with no distractions, and enjoyed the time properly. Now you have everything at your hand with a couple of clicks & it doesn't bring the same joy somehow.

My family was in the habit of checking out movies on VHS at the local library, so because of that we didn't visit Blockbuster as often as other families probably did. We did go sometimes, but because of growing up on older VHS movies, my taste in films has been somewhat skewed.
