I started in 2015 and i watched the rise of cardistry. It was surreal. The craze, the seriousness damnn. Then I stopped after covid. Didn’t realise that the community will go down that quick. All the legends are gone. Rarely i see new kids starting. There are no cardists, only card collectors left. And they will also be done in no time.

I learned about cardistry in 2016, when I was still studying at the university and had a lot of time to practice. I left everything in 2018 returning to it from time to time. Now I'm here again and I aim to finally learn something! Wish me luck

@@Marcin-ri8pi thanks for asking! First, I practiced 10 weeks in a row for 6-10 hours each day. I switched to 2-6 hours per day for the last month though. I noticed that if I spend 8 hours training in one day it's somehow less effective than 4 days by 2 hours. I can't say I have learned a lot on a good level yet. I can do a good and consistent dribble and sybil cut, my spring is fine, but not so big and fleshy, and for some reason my thumb fan works every second time or so lol I'm training 20 or 30 basic moves (some of them not so basic like phased or dribble fan though) at the same time so maybe it's not the most effective way idk

I think the reason cardistry is "dying" is because it is very niche in a lot ways. For example cardistry moves (especially many packet moves) are interesting but many people dont find the appeal in trying to do it themselves. A way that could revive it a little is if people started branding it is a "fidget hobby" because it is EXTREMELY satisfying to do while doing something else as a way to destress

Got into cardistry in 2016 and was obsessed with anything with cards! Spend loads of money on new decks, and backed different kind of Kickstarter project to get my hands into unique limited edition cards.. When traveling to the states (With my job) I always came back with 10-15 new decks since its easier to retrieve unique cards in the states.. My obsession has calmed down since 2020 but I always have a deck near me.. Whenever I’m bored I can always find a deck (Still have so many) and softly do some of all the cardistry tricks I learned during the peak cardistry times.

My take on this topic is that ever since the big compitions like CCC and trials stopped to happen there was a big decline in the creativity, now people don't have any reason to create and post, even after the pandemic cardistry looked strong but not anymore, plus the motive of the cardists back then was to grow our community as much as possible and put our hobby out there to show that cardistry is also a beautiful art form, but now sadly it's more about money To revive this situation we need big names to give the community a boost, Andrei jikh, Dynamo, Tobias etc

I think a big part of it here in the UK is that the cost of living is so high that people in general are struggling to make ends meet so for a lot of people, buying bricks of cards (especially things like Fontaines) is just not feasible currently ☹️ I have always absolutely loved your content though so I hope you stay safe and keep up the good work 🙂

I followed your channel for years, really.I feel your view about cardistry and I felt it on my skin too,I mean,in 2018-2020 I was crazy about it,then something happened, maybe just life?High school exams,University, personal problems and all that stuff, and last but not least,I was feeling that the community was slowly dying? And that was SAD,but really Sad.Maybe it became oversatureted, too much stuff decks exc, idk, but the next generation isn't showing up.Right now I'm doing cardistry again, hoping that the community can grow again. Also all the best luck for the war because it's terrible and cardistry also means connection between people all over the world so

So nice to see you are ok and even continuing to bring out a new deck! Was worried about you guys with the war, so it is really nice to see your video, even though the message is a bit sad. I am new to cardistry and magic, so I didn't know about the setback, but still love your cardistry video's and tutorials and those of others (like Samuel Pratt and Jack Paton). Looking forward to the new deck! Lots of good luck to you and the rest if your crew! ❤🎩🐈‍⬛

This video is quite sad. I was practicing cardistry quite a lot though the years 2016 to 2019 but kind of fell out of it over covid with work and completing studies etc. and have only recently taken it back up and I was shocked to see that the community seems to have gotten smaller rather than grow. I can remember fontaines selling out soo quickly and being resold for multiples of their original prices and not I can see them so freely listed online it’s strange. I also get the sense that cardistry might have been “too cool” to move over to TikTok and few of the big brands or creators post there frequently. Perhaps cardistry has missed the boat on TikTok and this is why the community has failed to grow in the same way it was in 2016 to 2018 ?? Any thoughts?? Also wish you nothing but the best of health and safety for the tough period Ukraine is facing currently.

Tiktok felt like ez views where you enter cringe territory very quickly chasing even more views. Hard to identify the target audience. Maybe some may call that elitist approach, but we thought cardistry deserves better. Look, it worked AMAZING for some, who got millions of followers by posting beginner stuff or teaching flourishes in 10s vertical format videos. Putting all eggs in instagram basket backfired, since the platform fell off hard after the takeover a few years back. Growing niche accounts without clickbait or relentlessly posting flashy fans or springs seems like quite a challenge now. Appreciate the message. We will do our best, youtube is still a thriving platform, we're not leaving. We have our values and morals, that we've stuck to for a decade, and we think there's more things left to discover with a deck of cards. Cheers!

Imo, the actual problem is that cardistry brands ( fontaine, anyone, virts etc.) started taking advantage of the fact that people are buying bricks. So they release a new deck every 2 months but without actually putting in the work for the community, like making a video about the deck which drives the community's interest. Less cardistry content, more cardistry decks to sell which the community is fed up with.

There were people during conventions who didn't hide their intention to rinse their followers, I think you can easily identify them by looking at their socials and the way they communicate. Now look what we've ended up with.

I feel like the Cardistry community has become a lot more segregated. The groups in Europe, in Asia, and in West and East US don't interact much anymore. With very few events/large competitions, all these bubbles have formed and you don't really see what's happening outside of it.

The actual problem of Fontaine is that: Zach just pushes too many new editions within short span of time. And then when it gets too much, he sort off get a taste of his own medicine, I guess Perhaps the reason this art might be dying is cuz of elitism? There are just cardists that TOO DAMN GOOD (looking at you, Lotusinhand), that the low to medium skilled ones are just…. Intimidated. Too intimated that they just give up

Ive been learning myself... I love how I fail so much.. and 1 day I wake up and BAM and its clicks in.. Not sure by everyone for buy bricks.. But with DnD printing to many colors way to fast.. (well other brands doing it).. And Fontaine printing many deck in a set.. Hiding them in blind packs.. and hiding a different color behind u MUST buy a brick to get really got old... For myself felt like they just care about the money and not the people anymore.. Id like to see Fontaine go back to there old ways again.. Reason why I even started buying them..

I wonder if cardistry became another hobby fad once it hit mainstream and peaked. It just seemed like the new thing to get into, like a yoyo, Rubik’s cube, fidget spinners, etc. It’s easily accessible to everyone with a deck of playing cards, so why not give it a try? There’s no denying that the community and camaraderie remains with cardistry. But it’s evident that the business aspect is difficult to maintain. Still an awesome community nonetheless!
