You can't use it to pretend that Frodo is a dwarf and not a hobbit or that Harry Potter can't use magic. The anime established the rule that everyone who gets the code loses the geass. ALL precedents show that and Charles explicitly confirmed that. Lelouch never lost his geass, so he never got a code. You can't make up fantasy rules which are not supported by the anime, or worse, contradicted by the anime. Death of the Author is all too often misused by people who are too in love with their own opinions. On top of that Death of the Author is part of postmodernism which is an obsolete philosophy abandoned well over a decade ago because it was rife with internal contradictions. Lelouch does not have a code, he is dead. that is a FACT, established by both the anime itself and the show staff.

YEah changing the timeline changes the story 100%. They just marketed it as R3 to get people to show up. Its not a sequel in any way shape or form, its 100% a fanfiction.

The issue I have with this is the fact that they announced a 10 year plan when it premiered in the states. That is to this day all we’ve been given. What does that plan look like? Should we expect movies or shows, if so how many? The fact that they say everything is planned out despite not having anything to share with us is what is killing the series. They could have immediately bumped up sales if they said the movie was there to ease you back in to the true R3 we are developing for 202X (X better be lower than 2) but no, we are most likely going to have 2 more movies 5 years apart by the rate they are going and they don’t want to let us know since they also realize how underwhelming this is. They might not even do that now since sales tanked to be fair. They might just assume the community doesn’t care while in fact it is the miscommunication that is dissuading committed fans like me.

most, if not all, code geass side projects take part in alternate universes: nightmare of nunnally, suzaku of the counterattack, renya of darkness, oz of the reflection, tales of an alternate shogunate. i can understand if someone was unaware of these things it could seem like a money grab. but in general AUs have been code geass' thing for a decade. i didn't expect differently of the film. i never saw anything official say anything about a new season, just a sequel to the recap films. which are also another code geass AU. this was a classic case of fans overhyping something they knew almost nothing about then getting mad at the franchise rather than themselves when they had developed unrealistic expectations.

I think you aren't being fair with that view. Movies and series are always made for money. There isn't anything wrong with making another version of the story.

When the trailer for the project came out, it was meant to be a third season, a continuation of the original series. There was gonna be a third season and for a long time nobody knew when it was coming out until last year they announced it would realease in early 2019. MyAnimeList even had a full blown page waiting for the realease of a series rather than a film. I've been waiting for this for the past decade, trying to follow as good as I can and since then I've been hyped, I've been cheated but the release of the movie over the series cut me in the back like a chef's knife.

Everything about Akito was an insult. Even though the remakes were wildly inconsistent in quality and some of the changes were kinda lame and borderline pointless, and even though this new film was nothing special, the Akito films were far worse in almost every way. The CGI did get better in the later Akito movies tho, but yea early on, the CG was bad, almost as bad as the writing and how it added nothing but damage to the canon.

It has all the official information regarding Lelouch's death. This is absoltely not worth entertaining for the sake of anyone here but fuck it, here's a more detailed versions of some of my main sticking points as far as I remember. 1. The geass fragment stuff was a convoluted, nonsensical power addtion with its own plot holes and lack of real explanation as for how C.C. can give it (apparently kids cannot handle a full geass even though Mao had one when he was way younger that was an uncontrollable ability and not necessarily representative of a geass being physically impossible for kids to handle given the powers are user-specific). The geass powers are convoluted enough in the main series without this stuff. Leila's geass fragment lets her sorta teleport Akito and the main antagonist despite them still being in thet original location. It also lets her see a vision of her parents conversing with her without knowing it's her, and I guess she can see and project other people's memories, but none of this is explained well at all and we never get a definitive effect if the geass she has so they could grt away with a fragment having multiple powers when a normal geass only has one. It's more powerful and versatile than the regular geass, so how come kids can handle that but not normal geasses? It's also a literal deus ex machina as a geass goddess explains this to her in the 11th hour so she can basically save the day by surviving and sorta tepeporting (but not really, I guess) Akito and the main antagonist after almost everyone around her gets riddled with bullets. 2. They barely explored anything new with the setting outside of new mechs and orphaned rebels. We don't even exore the EU which was namedropped in R1 as a force Britannia took out of the equation when Lelouch was rebelling. That was and still is an established part of the setting we haven't explored, instead focusing on Akito and co. in somewhat sometimes familiar locations as they win battled and get happily ever afters before never being seen again, and Euro-Britannians are thrown in halfway for their own plot point. 3. The characters barely have anything to them. I don't get why Julius flips out over water of all things, ans when they do explore the characters, it's done via rushed backstories that still don't give much reason to care about these largely one-dimensional characters. Characters are often introduced and forgot about, like Smilas who was planning to become a dictator, only to not even be in the final movie until the literal last few minutes after the main conflict is resolved. The pacing of these circa 1-hour movies is too fast for them to really keep up with their cast of characters or let things breathe. It's far more difficult to care about the characters, their backstories, or their current situations as a result. 4. Major spoiler: Julis kinda raises a few questions. Charles can only alter people's memories with his Geass power, so how come Julis is a completely new entity and personality from Lelouch that can be overwritten like after the end of Akito? It feels like they just wanted to have some form of Lelouch just to say they did, but realized it would be a pain to write around while keeping the beginning of R2 with amnesiac Lelouch in tact, so they did it anyway and kinda made a mess. The water stuff was never in the main series, so I don't know why they botheted for the Akito series, or why Rolo escorts Suzaku absolutely Lelouch for the latter to get overwritten to what he was at the start of R2. 5. Yeah, I still hate the CG for half of these movies, and even in the later movies, they don't often feel well-integrated. The camera also zips and zooms around so much in the action scenes that they are legitimately dizzying and painful to keep track of. I can't wven enjoy these movies as action spectacles as a result. So yeah, I thought there were a lot of things wrong with Akito the Exiled.

Okay, but I have to ask...what was there left to do? The story basically wrapped itself up in a bow. About the only thing to watch is world peace and Lelouch...I dunno, trying to live out a private life with C.C. out in the sticks? The end literally has him solve the most and major issues, that being war on a world-wide scale and colonization, as well as uniting the world. As much as I enjoyed, and still enjoy rewatching Code Geass, there isn't really anything that they could have added. But I do appreciate that you wanted more. If the guys making the movies had said that the four would be their own continuity, in my opinion, it would have gone over better. Not great, because now all the character we watched the series for were now severally different (I'm assuming, I haven't watched the 4 films) especially considering the character development and world building that the original show gave us.

I think it would be nice to have R3 right after R2, except R3 is just an alternative where Lelouch does survive and does other stuff So that way people could be satisfied with both endings

Dark DeathLord The problem with what your saying is the R2 ending left a lot of people believing that Lelouch actually survived. It was a cliff hanger if you really paid attention to the series and how the Code worked. That final scene with C2 talking to Lelouch was what left that possibility alive. It would make sense that since Lelouch killed Charles he would have gotten the Code, and after he died he would have become like C2. So it would make sense to have an R3 where Lelouch would return if that was the case.

shit, i need a spoiler free explanation because i was considering watching it eventually. i was listening to a mix of shiro sagisu OSTs and this was one of the animes on it. i like his OSTs so much that i wanted to eventually see all the anime that his music was in.

That being said, it is a total disaster how this continuation/remake/whatever-the-hell-it-is was handled. Speaking strictly from a marketing perspective.

Nunnally never saw any visions or memories. The show staff denied that, it was a misrepresentation of that scene. When youw atch the scene you see reacts and audibly gasps BEFORE the images, which means she isn't reacting to the images, which means they are non-diegetic, i.e. for the audience only. On top of that, the show staff officially confirmed that Lelouch was truly dead and not immortal. The anime doesn't even allow him to have a code as the lore makes that impossible. That was just a hoax, a joke from 4chan that got out of hand. The fan community has shown that.

The lore does not make it impossible, it makes having the same Code that granted you the Geas you have impossible. The show is called Code Geas, and he achieved the title by having both. It's not a "joke from 4chan that got out of hand." it was my initial interpretation upon first viewing and subsequent rewatch with no interaction with any community surrounding it beforehand (or even after, until this and maybe a couple of other videos). What the show staff "officially" says after the fact does not change what they showed us in the actual medium, and that medium is what matters above all else. Even if their statements on the subject did overrule the show itself, then that just makes it even worse because the show hints at a much more clever ending than the bog-standard "anti-hero seeks redemption through death" cliche (though admittedly it wasn't as simple as I'm hyperbolizing it to be). To reiterate: Either it's true, or somebody fucked up bad. The Nunnally thing was just what got me thinking, the rest of it was what solidified the idea. Thank you for your reply though.

Imperator Hanseatic The lore DOES make it impossible for Lelouch to have a code. EVERYONE who gets a code loses the geass. No exceptions. The anime is very clear on that by showing us that this is what happened every time. Charles even explicitly confirmed it. There is NOTHING in the anime to suggest there are extra rules or exceptions. No dialogues, no monologues, no visuals, no hints, no dreams, nobody wodners about it. You can't give any screenshot ot transcript to support the idea of exceptions. That means that any fantasies about exceptions are fanfic, not canon. You can't just make up shit and pretend it's real. No basis in the anime means it's false. And the title "Code Geass" simply means it's a show about codes and geasses. Otherwise your "logic" would dictate that "Code Geass: Akito the Exiled", "Code Geass: Oz of the Reflection", "Code Geass: Renya of Darkness" all mean that Akito, Oz and Renya also got a code and a geass, and that is obviously not the case. This is so typical of the conspiracy theorists, you make up shit to support your claims, but it's not part of the anime and it's not consistent with what we see. It's all wrong. Lelouch is dead, not immortal. This was officially confirmed by the people who made the show, and they know better than a handful of delusional fans. Code Theory started as a hoax on 4chan and it got out of hand because so many people were so eager to believe it because they couldn't accept their beloved anime character had died.

At least thats how i always interpreted it, so that the Code requires you to "die" to activate and before that it lies dormant inside of you and then upon activation through dying it replaces the Geass. Which would also fit nicely with why the Nun just randomly stabbed C2 in the Chest when she gave her her Code, like, if that wasnt necessary to activate the Code why would she do that? For style points^^? Of course, Charles could have just pretended to follow the Order to prove a point and to flex on Lelouch, since i dont think we see Charles eyes go read and the Geass enter his Mind how we usually do, but why would he do that? And about the Nunally seeing Memories thing, the fact that she reacts before she sees the Memories is not valid proof that its unrelated, the shocked reaction could just her being suprised that she suddenly sees Memories that arent her own. And why would they put so much emphasis on her having this reaction the instant she touches lelouch and then suddenly she understands the plan in all its details. That is at least pretty weird wouldnt you agree? so if its not uspposed to show that he has a Code its pretty much an Asspull, and i think the people who insist so much on this theory just prefer the scenario where it at least follows an internal logic and not just her randomly understanding everything. While i dont mean to completely disagree with you, i will say that you seem to fall into the same trap that the conspiracy theorists fall into. Just in a reverse fashion since you dont even seem to take into account any counterpoints to your position, exactly like you blame the conspiracy theorists to do^^. Because you cant deny that at least inside the Anime its at least somewhat vague and leaves room for interpretation.
