Trudy Jackson I loved him also. That movie The Dumpling Gang that Knott's was in is hilliarous! They said that Andy & Knotts were bestfriends in real life too. Look up Aunt Bee. She was a totally different person in life. I also love Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Bewitched & the Carol Burnett Show with her slapstick comedy & Gillian's Island, The Beverly Hillbillies, lol. There's a lot more I could mention but u get my drift. I love all those reruns. A lot of the old movies were great too! Back then in these shows there were no nudity & they never cussed either. They were good clean watching which proves there's no need for all that! These days if an ass or a tit isn't hanging out, something must be wrong with the film! Using the word f&%k is common place. I wish we could go back to those days & get rid of the filth that's in movies today. Parents didn't have to worry about censoring their kids either, lol.

Don Knotts was a genius! I never get tired of watching the old reruns that he was in. I once heard someone say, that the guy they brought in to replace him on the show, if put in football terms, was like trying to compare a little league coach to Bear Bryant of Alabama. To me there was nobody who could successfully fill the shoes of Barney Fife.

Alpha 11 Don was very humble and a bit embarrassed that the town named a major road in his honor. I got to meet him when I was barely 4, and he was dressed as Barney. I was very close with lots of adults surrounding him. I looked up and said "You're so TALL!" Everyone laughed. He picked me up and spoke with me and my daddy. Then he gave me a (fake) bullet. "You know the sheriff only gives me one!" He said in character. That was 54 years ago. I still have that bullet.

Probably because, even after all these years, you realize that Don was one of the best. His comedy was never at anyone's expense. No sex, race, religion, politics, or any other group suffered, just his character. On the Andy Grith Show, how many times did you know what was going to happen and yet got a laugh from it. Then the physical performance, the fact that his whole body was into the act. He was gifted but truly worked hard at his trade. Very hard to forget Barnie or any of his other characters. Who else could of pulled them off and made them as memorable as he did? I am afraid whenever Don is brought up, we that grew up watching his performances will always get a little bit saddened by our loss.

@@ronfullerton3162 - Very well stated. My wife and I often communicate with each other using quotes from old movies, mostly comedies. The majority of our quotes come from Don Knotts movies. Clean and wholesome and still funny after all these years. Apparently it works well because we celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary back in June. Laughter truly is the best medicine and Don was/is still the best imho. Edit: While remembering that Don passed away brings sadness, watching almost any of his shows/movies perks me back up. Funny how that works...
