That's a false narrative. The truth is closer to the fact that he wasn't a very good lyricist and he emphasized performance over content. Its kitschy to just claim people hated on him because he was clean. But Kid n Play were popular as hell and they were also clean and so was Heavy D , Chubb Rock, Arrested Development, DelaSoul, all popular around the same time as hammer. The difference is they could actually rap.

Hammer deserve his flowers because he really helped open doors for rappers to become mainstream/venture into other endeavors/get that 💰. It's funny how all those rappers back in the day clowned him, called him a s*ellout, he was lame blah blah yet those rappers are doing the same exact thing nowdays. As a Bay Area native, I was a die hard Hammer fan. He brought excitement, showmanship and mainstream diversity to hip hop at a time when it was extremely taboo. I appreciate him for going against the grain in spite of the backlash. Thanks for the great video. He was a hip hop superhero to me!

Born and raised in Oakland I too have been and will always been a fan. I had one math class with him, and always knew he would be something one day. Even back then, he was always front and center during school activities. Forget what they say, He got into trouble helping folks that wanted to live off him and his being never able to say "NO!"

Hammer was not doing anything different or special at the time. You have to remember that "gangster rap" at the time of his first few albums was actually the minority of artists/albums. While gangster rap did become more and more popular as the years went by, Hammer did keep his original style , it did also get to the point where he decided to start doing gangster rap himself. By that time the industry had shifted and no one bought into his fake image.

I saw hammer in concert as a kid and to this day it is still one of the most entertaining and mesmerizing shows I've ever attended.. The only thing that happened to Hammer is he wanted to take the hood with him... And that's what broke him.. He used to have what looked like 100 people on stage with him and those people had to eat... And he was feeding them.. But they say Hammer ain't no sucka... Them death row stories and bay area stories flow rampant.. U might wanna google Redman and his encounter with Hammer... Far from a punk... He had his time in hip-hop.. He wasn't a lyricist but he was the part of hip-hop that was fun and made u move...

I remember Hammer coming to Louisiana around 1989 during the height of his career. It was the concert of the year. There was some type of a scandal involving fraudulent ticket sales. My cousin, who lived in Cali @ the time & had ties to the industry, promised my 2 cousins & I tickets. All we had to do was report to the Will Call window. Of course, we didn't believe her. So we bought tickets, just in case. To our surprise, 3 tickets were waiting for us. As a result, we scalped the ones we'd bought prior to. It was an amazing concert & a nostalgic moment that I'll never forget.

MC Hammer will always be my childhood hero. I remember getting up on Saturday mornings looking forward to watching Hammerman and I was so heartbroken when they stopped it. And I used to record his music videos on our VHS player over old videos tapes so I could copy his choreography and pretend I was MC Hammer 🤣🤣🤣. I was soooo happy when I found out I share my birthday with him.

I came up in the Bay Area. Hammer was everything. I randomly met a couple of his dancers after his so-called demise and they said he was always a cool dude, always trying to look out for everybody. I think the best thing that could have happened to him was to be removed from the industry when he was because IMO it all went downhill when gangsta rap took over. Man's rejection is God's protection. He ended up in the Stockton area suburbs, I believe, living a quiet life with his family. I'm glad he found peace.

I was 17 back in 1991 and Hammer, Vanilla Ice and EnVogue all performed together in Lubbock Texas and it was the best concert ever!! I'm now 48 and been to other concerts during my life but the concert at 17 was the best EVER!!!!

Love Hammer! He was in my city in 2019 for his Hammer's House Party Tour. The opening acts were Kid n Play, Coolio, Biz Marke (rip) & DJ Kool. When I tell you I was so HYPE! I had never seen Hammer before and I was living my 80s kid dream lol. During "U can't Touch This" his team brought me and about 15 other people on stage with Hammer to jam. I almost lost my mind with excitement lol.😄 Afterwards I was able to meet him backstage. Hammer is one of the nicest, most humble celebrities I have ever met. We took pictures, chatted a bit, I gifted him a piece of art work I created and he was so appreciative. It was definitely a moment I will remember. I always enjoy these videos. Hmm, oh, can you do one on Kelis please? I always wondered what happened to her? I really like her. Thank you!😁

I remember my college days and waiting for a MC Hammer video to come on tv. I would drop everything to get up and mimic what I saw(good ol' days). You had to know how & when to breathe dancing like that 😉. I didn't know he had so many albums because you only watched the popular videos or heard the popular songs on the radio. Singles were popular back in the 80s so I know that hurt album sales for everybody. I purchased a lot of those. I hated buying an entire album and only one song would be hot and the rest just trash 🙄. As far as putting a hit out on 3rd Bass, I don't believe that but talking about someone's Mother? That's off limits besides that's a Black thang, 3rd Bass wouldn't've understood even though they we're straight jocking us. Yeah I said it! They were frontin' to be accepted by us. It annoys me when I hear interviewers say to these rappers you we’re the first to venture outside of Rap. This happen recently but I will not mention names. Mc Hammer was actually the first. When he did a lot of Rappers back than frowned on what he was doing. Mc Hammer is definitely one of the best selling Rap Artist of all time. I would look forward to every every song and performance. Hammer was one of those rappers that stood out. The songs and creativities he put out were unmatched and the fans loved him. I'm not ashame to say I was one of his biggest fans and no, his life wasn't perfect or all peaches and cream, he fell like anyone else. But he knew what to do to pick himself up and keep it moving, without drugs, booze, women and baby mamas. He still would make for a good role model.

Considering how rappers are thriving being independent today, he could've been a pioneer & remained independent. Maybe his career would've last longer had he not have to cater to what Capitol Records wanted . Then, when it didn't work any longer they, ditch him. Then, he tried to go "gangsta", which was ridiculous. lol He was also way too overexposed. He was literally EVERYWHERE! You couldn't escape him. lol That's what I think also killed his career. Interesting... MC Hammer. I know a handful of songs, but I was never head over heels for him. My favorite ended up being _Pumps and a Bump._ After that record, I have no idea. I have no desire to go back and listen to his catalog. Wish I could say more, but eh. I don't have a strong enough connection to him. Great video, Sis. You're doing a fantastic job.

I was a boxer at Kings gym on east 14th in the 80s. Hammer and his posse would roll through sometimes. Always a really cool cat. Great with the kids. One of my sparring partners was also a dancer for hammer.

Hammer is a thug. It was hilarious hearing thugs say that they don't play around with Hammer and they also had nothing bad to say about him. The bad boy's interviewed even said that Hammer will check you if he hears that you said anything bad about him.
