I knew the story about it ending up in US. and Tower bridge , a lot of classic novels mention Wherrymen and I didn't know the politics and economics behind the story . Map men are always interesting and I enjoyed watching this one .

He could have mentioned that the narrow arches of the Medieval London bridge slowed the flow of the Thames considerably. So much so that the area froze solid for weeks/months on end during Winter with Frost Fairs in the middle of the Thames being a regular occurance. Also the swift channeled flow between the arches became like rapids and made it very dangerous to traverse in small boats.

The best thing about London Bridge today is the Market Porter pub at one end of it! Maybe Borough Market aswell if you can afford the tourist prices?

I knew the story of London bridge. Tower Bridge is much more interesting. I was taken there on a school trip in 1969 and we were taken all over it. The workings for raising the bridge stick in my mind.

Caesar had a bit of a tiff with the locals when he tried to cross the Thames. To paraphrase: "Who needs a bridge when you have an elephant?"

Hi John, yes we get told as children about the bridge, by the way, have a Google of Bath bridge, it's not a joke honest, not as impressive as London bridge would have been but still there and has buildings (shops) on it, while there take a look around Bath, a very interesting and important place with a lot of history and fantastic architecture etc.

My mother went to London in the 70’s and she brought back certified London bridge rocks. They were stolen unfortunately.

I knew a rather plain looking London Bridge was sold to an American and heard of the story that the American was foolish enough to believe he bought the beautiful Tower Bridge.
