The 2011 NBA Draft was no ordinary class… it featured a ton of TERRIBLE picks in the top 10, and most of the best players in the draft were actually drafted much much later than that… 6 all-nba players, multiple champions, some ICONIC players… and a whole lot of drama… the 2011 NBA draft class was one of the weirdest of all time and has CERTAINLY left it’s mark on the league with players like Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, and more.

I really feel Kyrie leaving the Celtics for Brooklyn was karma for the Celtics after trading IT to the Cavs. IT gave his all to that Celtics franchise through his injuries and his sister's death at the time. He deserved better.

@@chaseadams5037how is trading him to the Cavs to play with LeBron brutally dumping him? He wanted a max contract the team already didn’t think he was worth then he hurts his hip in that playoff run. You’d be a fool to keep him and pay him as history showed us. The only reason this is seen as tragic is bc his sister died during the playoffs and he balled out for us through that. But that’s his personal life. That has nothing to do with his NBA career or his value to a team. He wasn’t gonna get the contract he wanted wether he played or sat out during that tragic time for him. He chose to play and fans from other teams wanted him to get paid for 1 great year and playing through a tough personal time. The media saw a story and they broadcasted it everywhere. It was a very tragic and unlucky year for IT in and out of basketball but why are the Celtics hated for making a correct move. No team could ever win a championship with IT as their best player on a max contract taking that much cap for his inefficient offense and liability on defense. The stain on that deal is the Kyrie situation didn’t work out. But Kyrie is a much better player than IT it was an easy move at the time. Kyrie forcing his way out early also set up the current team led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown the most successful Celtics team since the Big 3. The Celtics navigated all of this correctly

I think the dynamic between the top 4 is such an interesting one: • Kawhi is the best player here, yet has the lowest career totals out of any of them. And has a really interesting career path where he won a ring early in his career as a role player, and then later became a superstar winning another ring being the main guy. • Klay might be the least “talented” player here yet has had more team success than all of them combined with his 4 championships. And a lot of people consider him the 2nd best shooter of all time • Jimmy is currently the best player out of this group despite having the slowest career start by far. And has had the least amount of talent around him yet still had a lot of playoff success • Kyrie has been great his entire career even tho he has never been the main guy on his team. Still there has been times where he has looked as good as Curry and some legit would say the most skilled player of all time. Like I can see reasons for all of them to go #1 in a redraft depending on what someone is looking for.

While Tristan Thompson might have been a decent pick for the Cavs, it's interesting to think about how different NBA history would look if the Cavs had selected Kawhi Leonard or Klay Thompson. The Warriors dynasty never forms if the Cavs select Klay, and maybe the Cavs have more titles. But do the Cavs end up with the #1 pick in 2014, which allowed for the Love trade? If they're even slightly better, maybe they don't. And does Klay develop the same way in a different system where he's not playing off of Steph? Does the pace-and-space revolution play out in the same way without the Warriors' dominance? Do the Rockets have a title? Do the Thunder have a title? Does KD leave OKC for a different team? Similarly, if the Cavs take Kawhi does LeBron leave Miami in the same way? After all, it was the Spurs beating Miami in 2014 that partially led to LeBron's decision to go back to the Cavs. Are the Spurs in the Finals in 2013 or 2014 without Kawhi? Remember, Kawhi won Finals MVP for being the primary defender on LeBron. Does Kawhi develop on the Cavs without Chip Engalland as a shooting coach? So much of the league today seems to hinge on this one decision. I doubt the Cavs question the decision too much since it led to a title, but Tristan Thompson certainly doesn't go nearly as high in a redraft.
@rome8180
@rome8180 10 ай бұрын
Note: I'm not even going to speculate on the Cavs taking Jimmy Butler because at 30th there was never any chance of the Cavs taking him. At least the other two picks were theoretically possible.

Well if you back up a little regarding to the warriors before their title runs. If curry would’ve never had those problems with his Ankles then the Bucks would’ve traded for him instead of Monte ellis. And the bucks were actually very close to pulling the trigger on that curry trade until he had another ankle injury so they had to restructure that trade and go with Monte Ellis instead and therefore the warriors dynasty would’ve never existed. But what would’ve been crazy to think about is Curry and Giannis together 😱

My favorite draft if only cause my favorite college player DeAndre Liggins got drafted by the Magic. Always did well in the D League and a great defender, just not someone that you want as a offensive piece. Still making his money overseas now. Will never forget when LeBron told people Liggins can help them and then the Cavs waive him. I mean if LeBron is giving you props then it has to mean something.

As a Pistons fan I remember this draft so well. I wanted two players and two players only: Bismack Biyombo or Kawhi Leonard. Biyombo just because he had the same mold of Ben Wallace, a undersized shot blocker that isn't offensively gifted. Kawhi because he fit that blue collar hardnosed mold that the Goin to Work Pistons had. So when Biyombo went right before, I thought they would go with Kawhi, which would've been insane to think about in hindsight. Some other fringe guys I wanted was Kemba and Jimmer, Kemba was that one saucy type player that everyone loved to watch. Jimmer was doing modern day Steph Curry shit (long range bombs people were calling Jimmer shots) in college and as a white dude that loved to shoot 3's, that just connected with me. This was definitely a very interesting draft.

It's a shame the wolves didn't pick Klay, Kawhi or Butler with that derrick Williams pick. Though Williams did show promise early on he just wasn't a good NBA size fit and on a team with some dominant big men he was never going to succeed without a solid 3pt jumper. Imagine Rubio, Butler, Love and Pekovic and probably someone like Kevin Martin or Corey Brewer at the SG position. That team if not injured could have been amazing. With hindsight and Peks injury, Kanter would have been a solid fit too as the 5. Love hoisting 3s and Kanter grabbing all the misses. Rubio finding any tiny passing lane etc.
