With her wealth, she could have done whatever she wanted! Oh, wait that's EXACTLY what she did! 👍👍

What an absolutely intriguing story. Thank you so much. Her wealth and position certainly helped her. I admire the way she embraced the lighthouse duties. Remarkable woman. I can only wonder what other things could have been accomplished if all women in that era been allowed the same freedoms. Many thanks for this amazing story!

We visited this beautiful lighthouse! I have a picture of one of her beautiful jackets. She was tiny AND stylish. The staircase up to the light is sooo narrow.

This was one of my favorites to date. Such an interesting story and Emily Maitland really made that lighthouse a home! She was clearly very ahead of her time.

Every day I learn something new. This is an great West Coast lighthouse story story, one of which I had never known until today?! (Coming from the coast, I was familiar with all of the Oregon and Washington sites, but not the California ones). Thank you so very much.

I've been here a few times, though I never take the tour I do visit the lighthouse restaurant/cafe. Surprised it didn't get a mention since it is on the light house grounds.

Interesting story. If she was allowed to upgrade the grounds, I wonder why she didn't expand the sq footage. And I'm sure she had an assistant or two filling the oil every two hours during the course of the night.
