In today’s video we are going to be discussing one of those ever-so-classic hip hop groups that were popular in the early 90’s. This group in particular, is one of those half-forgotten memories that dominated the music scene and released an absolute banger of an album, before fading away almost instantly. St. Lunatics is where it’s at today and we are gonna be discussing where they came from, what happened to them after their platinum album and and where each individual is today. So get settled in and lets get stuck into it - prepare for some absolutely Covid-contagious beats.

He should have let Nelly be a part of his contract signing and maybe he would have been. He said it himself that if he was signed to Nelly he would be good. Nelly got him on Tailfeather and the Welcome to Atlanta remix. I think he let jealousy cloud his judgment.

Being a kid from STL, I was a huge fan of the hometown heroes. A lot of us in STL didn’t realize at the time how huge these guys were getting, because it happened so fast. Especially seeing them before they blew up. From what I remember, Nelly was presented with a gold plaque at his album release party. As far as “Who’s The Boss”, there was an EP going around back in 2001, so I had it back then. Fun fact, D2 Entertainment had a studio in the back of a skating rink (Saints), and that’s where their early work was recorded.
@jarellbrown6974
@jarellbrown6974 2 жыл бұрын
That's a fun fact and I never knew that about D2 entertainment and I had heard alot about them when nelly had discussed it In his interview when the label was trying to boot him off their group song because he didn't sing the contract when the group had already signed but then later on nelly read the contracts and he said that it wasn't right so that was really like the beginning of the feud even though their were more problems heading towards the groups way after the success.
@Xolanidj
@Xolanidj 2 жыл бұрын
@@jarellbrown6974 my brother was a producer in their studio (but not on any of the STLunatic projects), so he would tell me stuff about them and how they were about to blow up. Before 2000, I always heard the name STLunatics around the city, but I didn’t know who the individual members were until Country Grammar, which we was hearing in 1999.
@jarellbrown6974
@jarellbrown6974 2 жыл бұрын
@@Xolanidj oh okay and that's kind of how it was with me because I had never heard anything about the st lunatics until they came out with midwest swing but as far as nelly goes I heard the world premiere of the country grammer record in the midnight of 1999 while growing up in kansas city missouri on hot 103 jamz and the record was a instant hit.

@@jarellbrown6974 another fun fact, and I remember watching when this happened. Country Grammar was the first #1 video on 106th & Park. It was a huge time for STL, with them blowing up, and The Rams had just won the Super Bowl.

I like that Nelly experimented outside of hip-hop and collaborated with other artists. I can switch from "Hot in Here" or "Flap Your Wings" and get sentimental with "Over and Over" or "Dilemma" lol. I noticed that what seems to be a trend with these hip-hop groups is that the lesser known members think they "deserve" more money than the actual star when that star can just pull a David Ruffin and say "ain't nobody comin' to see you,. Otis!" and it would be 100% true. He gave you a spotlight; find a way to put yourself on instead of depending on him. The fact that Nelly could go on making hits but the rest of the group couldn't should be your answer as to why he got half and y'all had to split. Slo It Down even admits that he didn't write anything or rap/sing but feels that deserves more money for what? Wearing half a mask and acting like he had too much caffeine? People were imitating the band-aid, not the mask. That should have been an obvious clue.

The problem with the St. Lunatics, is that no one ever took them seriously, nothing about them stood out whatsoever, if there was a top 20 rap group of all time list they would not make it. Another reason why is because Nelly couldn't lead them like he should have. Unfortunately when he came out he was like a place holder for the transition, right before Nelly came on you had Outkast, Eminem, Snoop, Dmx, and the ascension of Jay z and Nas. He made a little noise because he was new, but the next phase of rappers is when his career started to fade, once 50 cent, Kanye West, T.I, Jeezy, and the rise of Lil Wayne came, Nelly became an afterthought

unfortunately it's pretty much the same thing that happens to most rap crews..u got a crew that very few had heard of til one of em(we all know who) blew up and then the rest of the crew tried to play catch up but unfortunately despite a few releasing their own albums none of em could replicate the success of the lead member..same thing happens in alot of bands and boy and girl groups unfortunately..sometimes i think it's cuz there's not enough success to go around but i think the main problem is the breakout member overshadows the others so much in people's mind that they'll barely even pay the other members any mind at all and also imo at least they just wasn't enough about any of em that stood out..sad to see that...dope video as always Ali

@@rod5654 I suppose but we not really talking about potential though we talking about executing that potential and for whatever reason Murphy couldn't keep it moving..i mean really neither could Nelly even after a monster debut and an even bigger monster to over the sophomore slump Nelly started falling after 2003 but I'll give him til 2006 cuz Grillz was a big hit and it's still a classic but even Nelly with all his success couldn't keep it moving past Sweat Suit and a few singles afterwards so imagine the rest of the St Lunatics...i wish they did make it though i mean they didn't need Nelly success either just maybe Styles P like Success
