Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to once again be discussing events that transpired in the Harry Potter universe AFTER the books and films ended. This is the SECOND part in the series, so if you’re wanting to learn about 10 more characters in ADDITION to the 10 featured in this video, then I’ll leave a link in the pinned comment. As I mentioned last time, with the latest Fantastic Beasts film on the way - The Secrets of Dumbledore- we can expect to learn even more information about the wizarding world BEFORE Harry, Ron and Hermione embarked on their journey at Hogwarts. However, what I want to hone in on today are the events that happened afterwards.

I would have like to see Dudley show up at the train station at the end with a child of his own who had received a letter from Hogwarts. And they encounter Harry and his family on the platform and Harry tells them how to get through the barrier.

Nowhere near a harsh enough punishment for Umbridge. At trial she pleaded not guilty, claiming to be under the Imperious Curse, she was found guilty when Harry and other students that had been tortured by her Black Quill, demonstrated her evil character. At a suggestion from Hermione she was given a choice between a life imprisonment in Azkaban or taking a up a job at Hogwarts. Obviously she took up the job at Hogwarts, expecting to be made a teacher. However on arrival at Hogwarts her wand was confiscated and she was forbidden the use of magic. Her new role would be as an assistant to Filch. The house elves were instructed to keep her under constant supervision and a modified charm (similar to the one used to detect under age magic was placed on her) She spent the rest of her life being tormented by Peeves and begging to be sent to Azkaban

Of all the characters you mentioned, Umbridge receiving a life sentence at Azkaban was the absolute best news.

she deserved her fate even if it was slightly less then she deserved. lockheart doomed himself. he stole credit from the witches & wizards that did the deeds he claimed that he did, tried to run at a time when he was given a chance to be a real hero, took another wizards wand that was not his without noticeing that it was broken to use a spell, & planned on twisting what happened in the chamber of secrets only to face just punishment. filch had a heart under all that grief giving to students & had a much smarter/safer fate then the freys in westoros did. glad that olivander recovered & continued to help future witches & wizards. kingsley was very relelutionary in his deeds.

@@morrigankasa570 while I don’t have much feelings towards umbridge the character, I do agree that she did get off a bit more lighthearted than some would expect her to be punished. She probably would’ve been better off trying to deal with dementors in a “special place” for her.

I said it before and I'll say it again. I was really hoping Lockhart would appear during the final battle having read all his books, believe them, and become the man he pretended to be, turning the battle for the good guys. It would have been hilarious.

@@shoresean1237 Yep. And that’s why Vernon was persistent on having Kingsley be their escort instead of a witch and wizard they hadn’t met before. As of now based on what we know, Kingsley Shacklebot is the only member of the Wizarding World that Vernon actually likes and probably feels safe around.

@@ajestersgrace3902 It's because he acts towards Vernon the way HE acts towards everyone else. I think that's all Vernon respects, is himself, and anyone who reflects himself is good (IE, his son)

The DH book explained this as Kingsley being seen by Vernon protecting the Muggle Prime Minister and therefore saw him as acceptable because at least he blended in well with muggles and was in Vernon’s eyes the best protection the wizarding world could provide.

I maintain that Molly's defeat of Bellatrix wasn't as surprising as it appears. From her first appearance at home, she's shown to have multiple spells running the house simultaneously. How many other wizards are shown to have that ability? And she appears to lead the Order of the Phoenix in Dumbledor's absense, despite several high ranking aurors being present. I believe her power levels are considerably higher than she lets on. And then there's Ginny, who easily masters everything during the D.A sessions while many older students (including her brother) struggle. I'd suggest she takes after her mother in that.

It runs in Molly's family. Her brothers were extremely proficient and I believe its said that 7 death eaters were sent to kill the two of them. Given Arthurs disposition I would argue that all of the Weasley children get the majority of their magical prowess from Molly(Arthur certainly contributes but not as much).

Jo Rowling has said that Molly's defeat of Bellatrix was the triumph of maternal love over fanaticism. Plus, we are powerfully reminded that Molly is MORE than a housewife and mother of 7 (as if that weren't enough!) but a Prewitt warrior much esteemed by Dumbledore and her peers. I thought it was wonderful that she whacked Bellatrix.

Molly also didn't have the overinflated ego that Bellatrix had. She didn't seek power and glory, she had a focus on what needed to be done and to do it as efficiently as possible. She was thee Mom.

It always made me happy to see Filch's dedication to his job. Even when the most evil wizard and his army of werewolves, giants and murderous wizards attacked the school he was there, doing his job, evacuating students and sweeping up the debris after the fight. Even if he is jealous of those who can do magic, it is clear to me that he sees Hogwarts as his home too.

Let's not forget the times he threatened to kill students and kept chains and longed for an ability to torture them as punishment. He's not a good guy, he just had nothing else in his life.

One of the few pure bloods who cared about people as equals including muggles, took out many pure blood favoritsm, removed dementors, make ministry more efficient, and locked umbridge. Shacklebolts were one of the sacred 28 but I wonder if they were pure blood supremacists

I wish they would do a prequel on Ollivander's life. He new and interacted with every wizard. They could go more into the wands and how they're made, also how wands seems to be sentient. "The wand picks the wizard"

I'm only curious as to how Fawkes became Dumbledore's pet/companion and why Ollivander made two wands from his feathers that initially didn't sell. It seems funny that he'd have a whole shop of wands that don't sell (and then vanished them when he was captured?) Maybe he works all year on wands to sell them during the summer. If I was writing it, I'd have him do custom wands for everyone. They'd touch something that would tell him what combination of core and wood would be most appropriate.

Umbridge being in charge of hunting muggle borns was always aimed at catching Hermione. It was how she busted them in Order of the Phoenix and she knew it’d be how she would see them again.

Arthur Weasley's magic car. Last we saw of it, it was still cruising around the Forbidden Forest. Buckbeak. Sirius released him in the wilds at one point to return to protect Harry. It would be nice to think that Buckbeak found a mate and they had baby hippogriffs.

Yes Winky!!!!! If you don't know who Winky is then go educate yourself you muggle. Dobby and Winky were very different. Dobby wanted to be a free elf and Winky wanted to be loyal and serve her master. But they were both sad and they both suffered a lot so they could comfort each other

I've got a big theory, the Weasley's lost a child. According to the Wiki, most the Weasley children were born two years apart, but there is a four year gap between Charlie and Percy. While Rowling used the names of monarchs to hint at their fates, there could still be a child unaccounted for. My guess is that it was a daughter and this explains why Arthur and Molly tried so many times and stopped when they had Ginny. Anyone else wonder about this?

@@lauraslade5308 Just a theory due to the frequency of the Weasley family explained. Bill and Charlie were two years apart like with Percy, Fred/George and Ron. This implies there was some element of timing in having children although Ginny was a stroke of luck. The four year gap between Charlie and Percy is large enough for Molly and Arthur to have had a child who died very young. If like most families there is the idea of having one son and daughter, the loss of one them would prompt the parents to try again to fill the void. Anything else?

I always liked Kingsley Shaklebolt. He wasn’t mentioned a lot compared to other characters but he was always talked up in high regard. Not too mention the guy is strong enough to go toe-to-toe with multiple Death eaters and even got to fight Voldy himself…….albeit in a 3v1. Then he goes on to become Minister of Magic? Yeah. He’s great character in my book.

Olivander originally is actually using the chameleon device to hide in London as a wizard. He isn't a human. He's a Time Lord, the War reincarnation of the Doctor. After ending the Time War, he regenerated into the Ninth.

Then in that case, Ollivander is not the first time the Doctor came to the Wizarding world. Before Ollivander, he came as the First Doctor, hiding aa Filch and then later return, shortly after his regeneration from the ninth to the tenth doctor, hide himself as Barty Crouch Jr but was then converted to the Death Eaters, eventually regaining his chameleon arch and return to his original personnality, however, some of Crouch Jr' s traits would later resurfacr, giving us the infamous "Time Lord Victorious"

There's a scene in a fanfiction I read that actually shows the days after Voldemort's defeat. Among the most satisfying scenes is where Acting Minister Kingsley Shacklebolt summons Umbridge to his office and has her escorted to Azkaban for "misuse of privilege and crimes against muggle-borns."

Umbridge given a life sentence is great. The next minister of magic was Kingsley Shacklebolt though, they say it at the end of the deathly hallows book. Also fudge wasn’t unemployed after getting sacked. He stayed on in an advisory capacity after getting sacked

Respect to Filius Flitwick, for killing Antonin Dolohov, the strongest and most dangerous killer of the Dark Lord, and for killing Corban Yaxley too, and god knows how much more DE did he kill. I am sure though, that he took all of his power out to beat them, that it was a very good fight, in the film he seemed very tired. As for Gilderoy, it's tragic, but he brought this on himself. As for Dolores, she should have been executed, any punishment where she is still alive, seems easy. I assume, before the battle, it was decided on few DE to kill them. Such as: Dolohov, Bellatrix, Travers, Rodolphus & Rabastan Lestrange, Augustus Rookwood, and finally not a DE, but still very dangerous Fenrir Greyback. I am sure, all of them were death targets, because they were the most dangerous and loyal killers of Lord Voldemort. Had Severus was loyal to Voldemort, he would be on the death list too, because he was stronger than all the DE, politically after Voldemort's return, he was number 2, Bellatrix was 1, and Dolohov 3. BTW Harry Potter Theory, please do a video about individual DE, their life, who they were etc... Great video man, thank you.

Ehhh, Dolohov was stunned by Hermione in the cafe and even his famous purple flames didn't really hurt anyone much at all in the battle at the Ministry. I doubt he's as dangerous as they make him out to be.

do not agree with you on Umbridge, as there are worst things than death, ie. hardcore torture, which is used by the Ministry in Azkaban. Not talking about Crucio, I'm talking about stuff that are more fucked up than the Cruciatus curse (bamboo torture, Jericho's Ladder, among other fucked up things)

I doubt it was the plan to kill death eaters on sight. I imagine most of the good guys would've started with stunning spells and switched to lethal spells when the death eaters tried to kill them

I don't think it would take all his power. Flitwick was a dueling master and champion and one of the best duelists of all time. I wouldn't consider Dolohov the strongest but he definitely was up there with the most dangerous Death Eaters.

I'm usually not a fan of when a writer will pretty much give all the details of the lives of characters after the story ends, it kind of takes out the fun of fans coming up with their headcanon ideas of where they ended up in the end.But getting told Umbridge ended up in Azkaban serving a life sentence was such a joy.

I suspect her confession that she sent the dementors against Harry didn't make its way to Dumbledore or Scrimgeour, so that's why she stayed on at the Ministry for awhile. I imagine she murdered Madam Bones (who may have only started investigating after Voldemort was revealed) to cover it up. Madam Bones might even have let Umbridge in her home. It was supposed to be a nasty killing and Snape must not have found out who done it, since they said Voldemort likely killed her personally.

My dad sat next to John Hurt on a plane on a business trip. He didn't want to disturb him so he kept to himself but my dad fell asleep, apparently next John gave him a nudge saying something along the lines of 'I'm dreadfully sorry but you are snoring quite a bit, how about I get us a bottle of wine and we'll have a drink together' my dad was shocked but of course agreed. Apparently my dad made a joke about an alien bursting out of his stomach and John sighed because of how often he'd heard that joke.

I have always wondered about this - if Hermione could undo her memory charm that she put on her parents, why wouldn't Lockhart been able to undo the "Obliviate" magic that he did on himself?

It's like with Ron's slug-vomitting spell: you can't really undo a spell done by a faulty Wand, they had to wait for it ending. And a memory charm would most likely cause permanent damage

I like to imagine that he actually learned a counter spell to obliviate thinking he could use it on himself in case he ever needed it, but he was too much of a derp to realize that by the time he might need it, he would’ve already forgotten how to do it. That would be so on point for his character. 😂

I always liked professor Flitwick. Probably in part because I lived in the Bedfordshire village of Flitwick (pronounced Flitick with a silent "W") for two years in the mid 1980s. In fact I first met my future wife at the village train station. I was US Air Force stationed at nearby RAF Chicksands.

I love that with Umbridge, we meet a truly evil, heartless character with no attachment to the dark side (unless we count her temporary possession of the locket horcrux and she was unaware of what it was). She's a character I love to hate! Reading about her literally gets me so hyped! And the actress, while cute instead of toad-like, played her so well! I shouldn't say this but too bad she didn't have to suffer the dementors after they left Azkaban. She was a bad apple. Movie-only fans don't have the whole picture. If you like to hate Umbridge now, read the books and watch your enjoyment escalate! Lol (In real life, I resist feeling hate or wishing bad towards others so this is good therapy for me! And I know I'm not the only one! Lol)

Harry Potter cleared his name. I guess he testified for Wizengamot (easy, becoming an Auror after the war). Rowling states that Snape wasn't supposed to get a portrait in the Headmaster's office, but Harry made sure, bringing evidence he wasn't a real follower of Voldemort. Based on the books, he is remembered as an icon of bravery and a genius in potion brewing (after his advancements are recognized through his old Potions book).

I always thought it weard how they did flitwick in the later movies like he was only the head or the orchestra and not a teatcher while in the books it was never mentioned he has anything to do with the orchestra at all

I would like to read a Philosopher's Stone lenght book from different characters view, how did they spent the year after the Battle of Hogwarts. For some reason I am more intrigued about the events right after the war than like 10-20 years later.

If they were smart they could have done a TV series about that with the cast. Hermione had a lot going on: restoring her parents' memories, studying for exams, learning law by witnessing the trials, romancing Ron, and maybe even helping Ron and Harry at their jobs as Aurors. The Ministry also had to find a place to put dementors (if not Azkaban), make sure Voldemort's followers don't escape, and clean up Azkaban as best they can if they want prisoners to be held there. PS: Before Deathly Hallows book came out, I imagined how it went in fan fiction, with even a scene some years later, but not nineteen.

I know that Ron's wand was broken, but it also hadn't changed its allegiance (as far as I know) to Lockhart. So what if it would've worked better if its allegiance was changed? Ron was only a second year, and Lockhart was a fully adult wizard, so he would've known much more about magic, and he was very skilled at memory charms.

I read her 2014 Quidditch World Cup in Patagonia when it came out and was disappointed. Harry had some kind of encounter but it wasn't the story. We could anticipate that Viktor Krum's comeback was going to result in his team winning, but there was nothing else there. In Harry's first description of him in Goblet of Fire, he says it looks like he was flying while barely needing the broomstick. After Deathly Hallows, I imagined he secretly learned to fly without one like Voldemort and Snape. Then for the finale he would be knocked off his broom or something but soar through the air without it to capture the Snitch! Considering it's considered Dark Magic but rare for wizards to do, would it be in the rulebook for him to be disqualified?

I would have thought Voldemort would have had Fudge killed immediately after taking over the Ministry, but then again he was trying to keep the takeover relatively quiet (hense why Arthur Weasely was left alone), if Fudge wasn't a nuisance he might have been allowed to live. Speaking of Arthur, as one of the few ranking wizards not killed or Imperiused, and given his actions during the battle, I would assume he found himself in a major position within the newly rebuilt Ministry, probably the new Head of Law Enforcement. And while Molly had little interest in government work, with her children grown and the Order of the Phoenix now disbanded, she would be looking for something to do One minor correction though, Professor Sprout retired, Neville took over as Herbology Professor afterward

I would have liked it if Ron' damaged wand had continued into the story with Ron getting used to using it through constant trial and error but everyone else who touched it having terrible things happen.

How do wizards learn things like math and reading? Because you'd definitely need a bit of both to do decent magic. Is it expected that parents will do all the teaching before age 11, or is there some sort of basic practical education in the wizarding world?

Wealthy wizarding families hire tutors for their kids (ie. Sirius and Regulus had tutors, while also learning other things from their father and other relatives). Families like the Weasleys would have had Molly homeschooling the kids.

My theory on how Lockhart could have been saved, since his magic memory has been destroyed, he was put into rehabilitation. Someone would come by to teach him to be a good person and spells that would help society, like retaking magic school under a special program.

Nah. We saw a prequel to _The Dark Crystal_ and however good it was we knew it would end badly with the Gelflings being slaughtered. So the first war with Voldemort would bum us out.

I was always curious about why Harry was always so adamant Stanley Shunpike was innocent. He only met the guy once on the bus and then saw him at the Quidditch World Cup. It's clear he knew he wasn't very smart and longed for attention and power (reminded me of Pettigrew). He was sent to Azkaban because he was overheard boasting about Death Eaters plans. Then he was part of the crew attacking the 7 Harrys and yet Harry thought he was Imperiused into it. Then one of the Snatchers says Shunpike had sent lot of work towards them as in helped them catch anti Voldemort people... so WHy was Harry always so convinced Stanley was genuinely innocent, just too stupid and not hold him responsible for his actions even if, maybe, he didn't know better?

8:30 i’m afraid not there is one slight complication with that rather rosy prophecy the fact that as of 25 Jan 2017 John Hurt The guy that plays the wandmaker is dead and buried so unless it’s a case of the character outliving the actor then Ollivander has been dead for at least five years.

I wish Filch had been given a little more character development on screen. We needed a scene where he uses his magic, powerful magic, to fearlessly protect a group of children. He could've been one of Dumbledore's undercover secret weapons there at the school.

Becoming a ghost means they chose to not go to the great beyond. There is a department in the ministry of magic that studies after death stuff. No one really knows what is in the great beyond. Anyway I feel that Fred would choose the beyond as opposed to ghosthood probably Filch too but not as sure about him.

Can you use a patronas with memories only, or could, in the third movie, when harry used the really strong patronas, did he use the idea of him living with serius? Something that haddnt happened but was positive enough and powerful enough in its good feeling to produce such an effect.

Positive memories are said to allow the user to produce a Patronus. The more positive and good-feeling the memory is, the stronger the Patronus is.

@@ajestersgrace3902 could Voldemort cast a patronus? It seems to me that he wouldn't have positive memories, but then again, I suppose positive is in the eye of the beholder. He might think killing someone was his most positive memory.
