Everyone who’s ever been addicted to this game as a kid has always wanted to be that kid with a massive binder full of rare cards and be able to brag about it to a degree. that’s one of the reasons I got back into the game about ten years after my parents made me “outgrow” it.

ya, for like 10+ people to get together in a "cool teachers" room during lunch and just play yugioh the same way they did in the anime felt awesome. sure you would get your cards stolen occasionally or get scammed with fake counterfeits during trades, but the good heavily outweighed the bad. even someone as anti social as me back in middleschool/highschool was able to socialize a little during those yugioh lunch time hours. thats the biggest reason to its success, the near exact connection it had to the anime and the real world game(minus the being banished to shadow realm part). no other anime has that connection. even the pokemon anime doesnt share that connection with its games.

The dubbed voice-acting and the soundtrack are superior to the Japanese version, period. I get quickly annoyed by weebs who argue otherwise, but it's just the truth. They shouldn't mistake a censored story as inferiority all around. The way I see it, the only thing that Japanese version has going for it is it's unedited format. The music almost never fits the scene it's used in, and the Japanese voice actors are so cartoonish (even for this show) and all the guys sound identical. The only time (in my eyes) the censorship really got problematic was when an entire season of GX went without a dub largely because 1) They thought that due to the nature of that story, they'd have to censor so much that it wouldn't make sense 2) They literally ran out of time due to scheduling and had to begin work on 5D's. I believe it was because they received limited notice on the sub release, same thing happened with Vrains.

I stopped playing when Pendulums then Links came out. Xyz and Synchro were still in the same game mechanic as the normal game and still used monsters like tributed monsters and fusions. And then, Pendulums came out, addind Pendulum Zones and adding a spell effect to a monster and then those crystals, nah that was too much. Later, I wanted to come back to the came, and then there is Link monsters everywhere that stop you from playing the game normally with like Synchros, Xyz and Fusions. Now everyone just plays Links, and maybe some fusions etc... but not really for the monster itslef, but for another card that just uses it. I miss the old days man...

2008 was also the dark year for the entire series. The Yu-Gi-Oh GX series was wrapping up, and not only did the anime begin to take some dark turns (characters permanently dying, the main character turns evil, etc.), but the actual TCG was saturated with the dark versions of cards (Dark Armed Dragon, Dark Grepher, Dark Horus, Dark General Freed, Darklord Zerato, the Evil HEROs, I could go on), all of which influenced the competitive game for years to come, even to this day. Also, shame on you if you played an Elemental HERO deck (like me), because they lost practically all viability in their original form following the implementation of Link Summoning, forcing you to play Masked HEROs if you want to have a _chance_ of winning.

XYZ was when things started going downhill and went into scrub territory. At this point in time, people started to build less complex decks because the skill ceiling of the game was lowered. Synchros brought the game to new heights because it rewarded _skillful_ gameplay and creative deck building due to the complexity of the summoning mechanic whereas Xyz rewarded uncreative deck building and *skilless* spamming due to its simplicity. The game went from who can play better to who can spam more when it transitioned from Synchros to XYZ. Pendulums was the straw that broke the camel's back. It was the most *unfair and toxic* game mechanic by design. Cards like Dimension Fusion, Return from the Different Dimension, and Soul Charge that were *banned or limited* just for the very ability of summoning multiple monsters at once to overwhelm the opponent; Pendulums had that in Spades. Not only did the mechanic offer the user the ability to do what these cards were banned and limited for at *no cost,* it also allowed the user to do so *EVERY TURN.* People made the argument that it was somehow fair because you could MST one of the scales, but they fail to point out that if the entire deck was made up of Pendulum monsters + Spells/Traps, then it was the equivalent of playing a 40 card Spell/Trap deck. It was not practical to disrupt these decks with Spell/Trap destruction cards because the optimal number of Spell/Trap destruction cards to play in a deck is 5 - 8 at most. 8 Spell/Trap destruction cards VS 40 card Spell/Trap (Pendulum) decks would lead to the non-Pendulum Deck losing 95+% of the time because not only do you have to hard draw into them, you also have to have 3+ Spell/Trap destruction cards in your starting hand if you happen to go first; or else your opponent will overwhelm you by summoning 3+ recyclable monsters every single turn. Not only that, but even if you do manage to destroy their scales, they can always rebuild them because every single monster in a Pendulum deck can be used to rebuild their scales and do their shenanigans all over again. Adding to the fact that if you play more Spell/Trap destruction cards in your deck, it would ruin the sensitive balance of your deck and make it extremely inconsistent. This leads to using floodgates as the only practical means to counter these unfair things, which leads to another set of problems: floodgates in themselves are toxic, which led the game to a period of toxic gameplay for a long time in which it wasn't really fun anymore to play. Links was Konami's poor excuse of an answer to fixing Pendulums. By design, we all knew that it was to balance the state of the game and patch the unfair design flaws of Pendulums and make them more balanced. On top of that, they also revamped how Pendulums worked by getting rid of the scales and moving them to the outermost zones of the Spell/Trap Zones. Idiots no longer had anything backing their arguments that Pendulums weren't unfair. If Konami went through such lengths to revamp Pendulums, then there was a problem with Pendulums in their fairness in interacting with the rest of the game. The writing was on the wall and they chose to ignore it. Links also have their own set of problems. For one, instead of revamping Pendulums and adding something new to the game, they made all summoning mechanics other than Pendulums have the same Extra Deck restrictions as Pendulums when Links were introduced when Pendulums were the Prime offender of causing the state of the game to go out of control. It's the equivalent of a teacher giving both the bully and the victim equal amounts of detention time when the bully was the one causing the problems. Utterly absurd. Because of this, beloved mechanics like Accel Synchro were thrown under the bus. On top of that, Links can be made by practically using *any* monster to make them. Whereas Synchros and Xyz have a limit to how much you can use the newly summoned Synchro/Xyz monster to summon new ones, Links can literally keep going without ever stopping. This in itself is a design flaw of the Link mechanic because it leads to extreme amounts of spamming to the point where you can literally win the game by winning the die roll and going first. Synchros were the pinnacle of skillful gameplay and creative deck building. It's a shame that Konami got greedy and decided to throw game balance to the wind when introducing new mechanics to keep the game fresh. Edit: Oh yeah I forgot one thing: Extra Linking. Konami for some reason decided to allow Links to have a built-in _Domain of the True Monarchs_ function. Seriously, no one likes not being able to play the game even when that Field Spell was popular. Why did Konami decide to have a mechanic with a built-in function designed to make the other person not be able to play the game? This is something that the playerbase has always hated.

This is kinda old but I’d have to disagree with how XYZ was the downfall in terms of the game. People hated on the Zexal anime because of te massive tone shift from 5D’s. Synchro took more skill to use but was FAR more spammed with the god forsaken level eater and first turn Quazars. synchro was the era that started the “ten minute turn” ordeal that was even made fun of in an early episode of ARC-V. If anything, Xyz Monsters added more to the game and the era introduced new archetypes to break the staleness of its time, like the fire fist era. People who still play the game such as myself did have our gripes with the changes every so years, but either get used to em or drop the game. They’re people that still play with old rules and pre-Zexal cards for the fun of it, it’s always an option. Tho I will say I absolutely hated pendulums and links with a passion. I defend xyz because it seemed easier than synchro in terms of concept (needing a new type of monster called tuners and adding levels seems a bit more complex than just having monsters with the same level imo), but when a new mechanic changes the game board itself and the rules to the game like pendulums and links did- even I had to step away from the game for a while. Not really sure where I was going with this, just wanted to share my thoughts

I fell away from playing the game that much sometime between when Lightsworn monsters were released and Synchro monsters dominated. I played some of the Nintendo DS games for a bit of time later up to the 5Ds era, but since then it seemed like the game jumped the shark. I now have come back, and am learning the current format fast. You would not believe how excited I was to find out my favorite deck -- cyber dragons - not only was current meta but had new support. Sharper edges are easier and faster to draw. Once the manga started to REALLY pick up, chances are that Takahashi had to change his style to better fit the more dramatic Shonen aesthetic and to increase his productivity. If you look at his more recent works, where he has more time to draw, the edges are much smoother.

You're not the only one, but I think that those people, like me, who hated them was not about not understanding the concept, but the consequences those kind of cards created. Things like killing the fun, wrapping up the duel in just two or three turns, those turns taking a hell of a lot of time to finish, and the list goes on. I mean, go for it if it is your cup of tea, but at least for me, from that point on it just became dull and obnoxious.

Really awesome video dude 😁, I must say that I would love a remake of the original series, imagine all the characters fleshed out better like Tea, Tristan even Yugi who was unfortunately put a little bit on the side burner for the Pharaoh to shine. "If you have the courage press the button to continue" Here's a pich of how it would go down on a really basic level Lets say this happens after the duelist kingdom arc cause I really like it ( Cause just make the games represent the real game and we ok fam) Like seeing them figuring out the use of the other summoning mechanics as well, like imagine Kaiba being tired of Yugi owning him updates his deck with one of like the "NEW MECHANICS" lets say (Synchro, Xyz) that were just made available, so kaiba just demands of Maximilious to make him the Synchro versions of blue-eyes and affiliated new cards(Battle ensues Kaiba wins). Yugi loses to Kaibas new cards, but then Pegasus gives him the Xyz versions of dark magician and the rest of the stuff like Kaiba's. (Cause Pegasus is salty 😛). Joey seeing all this and wanting to became stronger goes to tournaments through out the city and stumbles upon a tour that Pegasus sponsored (since he is in the town, for the funnies 😁), Pegasus sees Joey and through dueling with him and proving him self (with rest of character development) Pegasus offers Joey the "Once in a life Chance" like he would put it 😉for Joey to have cards of his own design made as long as they are approved by him as such him getting all the new Red-eyes cards. Battle city starts Kaiba now full of him self of being number one player in Japan wants to make him self number one in the world and holds battle cities around the globe in true Kaiba fashion and he comes to call it instead "Battle World!" Also Tristan enters the tournament with a warrior Synchro deck 😉 and maybe even Tea is like "Lets Go Girl" and gets Mai's help and enters with a Ritual deck. The God cards would also exist and the such but they would be like a Special new type of card (Leave that to your imagination 😛). The rest of the Arcs of the OG series I leave it up to you, but I must say I would like for the last season to have a bit more Duels 😛. For the pendulum and link mechanics I don't really want them showcased 'cause they are just to weird to grasp or put in the story in my opinion. Thank you if you read all this really happy that you did, leave comments and opinions as well 😁

I am sure it is not canon at all - but interesting for sure :) "An Xyz-Summon? What's this?" - read that with Atem's voice. ^^

Pendulum Magicians also were a big thing in the OCG but only lasted here for a month before 2017 and beginning of Link era alongside Zefra. @@bluesky2011k This is already the second comment from you on this video that I found which starts with "You know shit about Ygo". I played this game since its western release and I wonder why you call out people that just give their opinion on the company itself? Maybe you have a phase where you are super into the game and you want to "protect" it from criticism. That´s perfectly fine. But it doesn´t mean that the game´s problems disappear with it. You are right on the no cash prize subject. It´s part of a contract that Takahashi has with Konami. And most local game shops have their way of supporting prize pools. Also, supporting troc changing produces a small market that allows for financial incomes none-the-less. Although I agree with you on these 2 things, the other guys also have points that are fairly valid. As a social management student, I did a little bit more research on Konami as a company and their business model. And they aren´t the beautiful sunshine in the sky, let me tell you that. To make it short: they have aggressive profit-driven strategies that are horrible once you know them and realize how they make them work while creating customer-calming illusions now and then. You might be knowing a lot of shit about Yugioh. But that´s the shit you don´t know about Konami.

Konami has lost its touch, even in the video game market when they lost Kojima over it because of the poor way they treat staff and the games have become like EA games where you have paid DLC for things that shouldn't even be DLC to begin with, like extra save slots in Metal Gear Survive, SAVE SLOTS!

I'm so confused on gameplay after 5D.
@crystalbreaker947
@crystalbreaker947 5 жыл бұрын
Gameplay after 5D'S is pretty much players killing each other trying to decide on which are the best 15 cards to fit in their extra deck. While also pulling each other down the ladder to try & stop each other from even using those cards. Also, it should be really simple to explain if you know someone. Feel free to ask me anything

KidSnivy96 Eh honestly speaking its the Arc-V era that sped up the game to a ridiculous degree. Links were just the final nail in the coffin for me.....
@edboy5418
@edboy5418 5 жыл бұрын
Xyz (Zexal era) is practically the easiest. Just 2 or more monsters of the same level. Pendulum (Arc-V) Sped up the game even more since after 5ds. Link (Vrains) is the atempt to slow the game down back to Gx era.

@@edboy5418 Links slows the game down? PFFF links kills old decks and forces itself upon everything created in the last 20+ years and says "I am better". Yugioh is ridiculously fast now.

Yeah Links ended my days of playing the card game (unless Konami ever officially separates them from the main game) they just are too forced on us. We can't play oldschool decks anymore using the current rules. There needs to be some sort of Rebellion Group that unites all the players who are against Link summons changing the rules established in the Original Series. I play Elemental Heroes, since they were fun & easy to play.
