Another FD car found and recorded. It is crazy how many of these things I am coming across, I have a bunch of episodes saved up that I can release soon that have more of them, these things are kinda everywhere it turns out. They aren't even remotely hard to find lol! This Formula D Toyota FRS is still in functional shape with a crazy 2JZ engine, sequential transmission, and everything else in there.

It pushes the "Fresh air" boost into the manifold and mixes with fuel and ignites in the turbine spooling the turbo. "fresh air antilag"
@Mighty_Marty
@Mighty_Marty 3 жыл бұрын
Don't wanna be a smartass... But I think it just ignites due to the manifold being hot, which creates little shockwaves that spool the turbine and also make these neat crackles...

@@unicorngarage6095 spot on, there's a nice diagram you can also Google. But pretty much it takes boost/positive air pressure. Shoves it back into the exhuast manifold not just any "manifold" using that positive pressure to continue to turn the turbine. Then you just add antilag. Pretty much, when you are off the throttle your butterfly is closed, engine is no longer getting air. What do you need to antilag. Air!!! So where do I get that air. You get it out of that ball/positive pressure. You take that air and shove it back into exhuast and dump fuel causing ignition/burn and boom actual real antilag

That’s backwards on the anti lag. The reservoir controls the waste gate on the charge pipe. The extra wastegate on the charge pipe dumps compressed air back into the exhaust to create combustion in the turbine to keep it spinning off throttle and producing boost. Pretty sure that is how it works. It basically turns the turbo into like a mini jet engine off throttle lol
@aaronmerlow3747
@aaronmerlow3747 3 жыл бұрын
The intake waste gate dumps air into the turbo manifold. When open, the turbo compressor adds unburned air into the turbo manifold. with the flame front of the exhaust , the fresh air creates a bigger boom within the manifold causing the turbine of the turbo to spin faster and stay in boost. All this is happening with you are off throttle.
@cxbra
@cxbra 3 жыл бұрын
So its another way of accomplishing what anti-lag would do, interesting. I thought it was to keep pressure on the turbo wastegate at full boost. Thanks for the info.

Other way around the compressor is forcing air through the “wastegate” (anti lag valve) into the exhaust along with raw fuel to create ignition post combustion chamber

let me explain, the fresh air valve send the excess air blown by the turbo when the throttle shuts, like a blow off valve but instead of dumping the air to the atmosphere that air goes to the hot side of the turbo to keep it spinning even when you are not on throttle, turbosmart actually realease a fresh air valve that simplifies what nameless did

How does someone who's interested in drifting and competing buy a old FD car if they don't have any contacts to FD drivers? I go to FD ATL every year, but I've never attempted to talk to the FD drivers because I know they have a lot going on. I'm currently building my dream car, an RX7 FD, for drifting, but I've already put in so much time and money that I have a feeling by the time it's all said and done I'm not sure I will want to risk crashing it.
@T.Riddle
@T.Riddle 3 жыл бұрын
i don't think i've seen anyone drift an fc for that very reason. Hell i don't think fd has had an rx7 for years now. do you drift with any organization? Because the people that run the events should know of some people that can point you in the right direction.
@drkhancock14
@drkhancock14 3 жыл бұрын
@@T.Riddle I know there's a few pro am RX7 FD drivers around the country, and I don't really think it's too much more expensive to build than most cars. I bought mine fairly cheap since it needed a lot of work, but I'm also attempting to make it super clean and nice because I also want it to be a streetable car until I get deeper into drifting, so I'm spending a bit extra on it than I would for a pure race car. I've really not gone deep enough into drifting yet to drift with any organizations, but there's a frequent drifting event near Road Atlanta that I plan to take the FD to in order to gain a lot more track experience. I definitely want to get into amateur/proam competitions sometime soon, so I will have to decide if I'm going to go that route with the FD long term or if I will go with a different car.

@@drkhancock14 How much drifting experience do you have so far?
@drkhancock14
@drkhancock14 3 жыл бұрын
@@T.Riddle Not a ton, mostly just street and parking lot stuff. I built a SR20 240sx years ago in college for drifting, and then I sold it and bought my RX8 which I've been sliding around for the last 5 or 6 years. I've been saving money to build a 2nd car, something I'm really satisfied with taking to the track so I'm working on a RHD 500+ hp bridgeport FD right now. Should be running in the next few weeks, and after breaking it in I'll start taking it to the track.
