=====(The Details/Performer's Notes)=====
This is the Rachmaninoff arrangement of Korsakov's infamous "Flight of the Bumblebee". Which has become the unofficial litmus test for "fast/flashy" playing in the performance world. My version takes a fairly conservative tempo and is admittedly not the cleanest. But it's time to move on.
Funnily enough this was at performance level a few weeks ago (practicing on the grand pianos in my teaching studio) but it always takes me a few extra weeks to work it out on the digital piano. The grand basically plays itself whereas this digital keyboard forces you to really know the passagework (for me personally my Yamaha p-255 is starting to show its age RIP). That new keyboard I ordered in April can't come soon enough!
Your Pianist,
Erik C.
P.S. What did you think of the outro? Let me know in the comments.

For me it's the exact opposite, I have big palms but rather short fingers:/ My handspan seems to be pretty much the same as yours though, barely stretching a 10th but not to a level where I could effectively play them in a piece

Just a year ago, I remember being embarrassed being a guy with really small hands but long fingers. Seeing other pianists with small hands is inspiring. Vladimir Ashkenazy famously had small hands, but could play some of the most difficult pieces by Rachmaninoff :) Great video btw

I think rolled chords are a good addition. The more sporadic playing of the notes adds tension and induces increased anxiety. *cries in small hands that barely reach octave*

This was so helpful for me, because me hands are small and while I can reach from say 'C' to 'C', they barely reach it. I am able to make it work but if I had to press two more keys in between , this puts a strain on my hands. So I end on altering so my chords have the keys only and the finger placement matters too. I didn't think you could roll the chords like that but this definitely opens up a lot for me. Nice video.

Hey man, I think you talking in the intro was a nice idea, but I would personally prefer it if you keep the outro music as I came to the video for music. Perhaps you could state a fact about the music you play or smthn? Not too sure but maybe "Flight of the bumblebee was made by yada yada and was recognised for its x y and z at the time" idrk. What I'd really like to see is you in front of the camera talking about music or life or anything else. Your call at the end of day tho! :) EDIT: Also great performance bro!

Me being a piano patreon makes me appreciate you that much more, especially since I see you comment on literally EVERY single video that I watch 💀😆 Even the most obscure and low-viewed videos that I'd watch to learn from, I'd see your comment. It's equivalent to me walking into a class, seeing you already sat there writing notes, that, but for every single class I try to explore!🤯 Showing me how hard you work and how much you deserve the position you're in!:') Keep it up! 😄

Dang that’s rough. I had a colleague who had a similar range and she was performing Beethoven’s 3rd piano concerto. Idk how she did it. Watching her play/roll octave and come up with other creative solutions was inspiring and also kinda intimidating.

i also have really small hands. my left hand can reach at most an octave on black keys and on white keys it's even more difficult. i can only reach an octave with black keys with my right hand, bc it's slightly smaller. i can only reach a 7th on white keys bc of the slight size difference. and bc of how small my hands are, complicated chord end up being really hard or hurtful to play bc I'm stretching my hands in odd ways to play them 😭

@@ErikCPianoman huge fan, ever since I saw your cool outro arrangement. One of the first full arrangements I shall play once I'm skilled enough, and I agree with you, my piano teacher makes me play scales and alot of music theory, techniques and warmups. I don't like scales but I know they are very important especially in PLAYING BY EAR, I played in band ever since I was in 6th grade and the music sheet had it all, just read and play, but when I joined my church orchestra and private college and academy school orchestra, so i was a 8th grader playing some difficult music with a bunch of college students and high school students. they played by ear alot, so I had to quickly adapt and figure out what key the song was in, and boi did memorizing those scales and key signatures in public school band help!
