Yep it’s 10 from truck, 100 from truck then 100 from triangle. Also, one dude is correct, furthest one out goes to inside of shoulder. Middle one goes middle of shoulder and closest one to truck goes on or near rumble strip. That’s to help guide people to move around you.

@@JohnHallgren Don’t be in a position where you must be avoided. And don’t bet that even if you’re seen, the other driver will recognize the danger and attempt to avoid you. Just count the number of vehicles that pass by Dave while he’s on the shoulder; a lot of drivers don’t pay attention. If they do, they recognize the danger early and move over.

The Distancing on the Triangles look good, but you put all 3 down on the Rumble Strips. You're actually supposed to stagger them out to where they lead traffic away from the truck. (The farthest triangle from the truck should be closer to the end of the shoulder, the next triangle center with the truck, and the closest triangle near the rumble strip or the driver side of the truck behind the trailer).

Dude, One trucker to another, I work for ALDOT. Please, do not go searching for your tire parts on a dark strech of interstate like you did here. TNDOT has crews that come out and clear rubber from the interstate during the day with all kinds of strobes. I would rather see someones vehicle get damaged then see you get hit by a 70 to 80 mph bullet, besides thats what people pay for road hazard coverage for. Much respect, I love your content. YOU GOT IT Dave, I've blown a steer tire on a dump truck loaded with 20 tons of stone. Just remember, "REMAIN CALM", I had oncoming traffic on the left side, and a drop off into the lake on the other side - NO PLACE to go, and a 3 ft wide shoulder. Just let off the throttle, pump the brakes occasionally, and hang on the steering wheel. You will be fine, and will come to a SAFE stop eventually. Sure lots of smoke and noise from the tire hitting that front fender, lots of brake smoke, all ended well. Fenders are replaceable, people are not.

A little advice dave! If there is no damage to the mud flap or nothing jamed up to keep you from moving you can ease down the road st about 50 mph or so with your 4 ways on and try to get to a truck stop or possibly your delivery spot in dtead of sitting there for hours on the side pf the road Done that many times in my 43 year career and made it to my delivery then called it in.

Honestly I don't know anything about where the caution triangles are supposed to be but what you said sounds about right.. it must suck blowing a tire but it's good that it happened at like 2-3am rather than like 5-6-7am where it could of been worse from the debris from the tire. The only thing that matters is that you're ok Dave! But anyway, another entertaining video as always

I work for a car manufacture and for some of our driver training we have to do blowout test with a pickup truck. It has a big air tank in the bed and a system that can release air from the tire to simulate a blowout, and also air it back up in motion. We're always told that if a front tire blows out, to hit the accelerator.

About 20 years ago I was driving across South Dakota in a 1998 Subaru Outback station wagon about 2AM and there was an entire big circle of a retread laying right in the middle of my lane. It was so dark out that I didn't see it until it was too late and I completely straddled it. I pulled off the side expecting the whole bottom of the car to be messed up but all it ended up doing is wipe the dirt off my oil pan. That car was pretty high up and also built like a tank.

I only had one blow on me while doing OTR with CFI... now that I'm local... I don't know what it is... but I've blown three tires...all are mostly because cruddy retreads suck... then our shop does unsafe practices where they'll take the nail/object out and call it good 'nough... which clearly is unsafe and now I'm pushing back at my yard for them to replace tires (if I find someone in the tire during pre/post trip, I tell them, replace the tire, not fix the tire; replace it) My first ever blowout while at CFI - I didn't hear anything - just saw smoke, sparks.. ever tire since - those I've heard - sucks double when you suck in the mudflap and mudflap hanger..
